After crafting some of the most entertaining B-movies in recent years with Crawl and Oxygen, Alexandre Aja is returning with a new one-location psychological thriller this year. Never Let Go, not to be confused with Kazuo Ishiguro’s book and Mark Romanek’s adaptation, stars Halle Berry, Percy Daggs IV, and Anthony B. Jenkins. Ahead of a September release, the first trailer has now arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: “From visionary director Alexandre Aja and the creative minds behind Stranger Things and Arrival comes Never Let Go. In this new psychological thriller/horror, as an Evil takes over the world beyond their front doorstep, the only protection for a mother, played by Academy Award® winner Halle Berry, and her twin sons is their house and their family’s protective bond. Needing to stay connected at all times – even tethering themselves with ropes – they cling to one another, urging each other to never let go.

Despite the mixed reactions and a lackluster box office reaction to last year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Sony is apparently forging ahead with another film. Sudbury.com has let slip that the city has received funding for a new film project called “The Umbrella Chronicles”.
The city, which was one of the filming locations for Welcome to Raccoon City, will be receiving $2 million Cad from the provincial government for the project, which is being developed by Raccoon Hg Film Productions. That same production company was behind the 2021 movie.
Sony has not officially announced a sequel to the Johannes Roberts-directed film, but given that the credits hinted at a sequel, things are looking like it’s in the works. After all, it would appear that this sequel is taking its name from the 2007 on-rails shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

Sam Neill and Barry Pepper (Crawl) star in Bring Him to Me, and we’ve learned that Myriad Pictures has acquired North American and the rest of world sales rights (excluding Anz) and will feature a first look at the film at EFM in February.
Meanwhile, Rialto Distribution has picked up the Australia/New Zealand rights.
In Bring Him to Me, “Under orders from a ruthless crime boss, a getaway driver must battle his conscience and drive a young and unsuspecting passenger to an uncertain fate.”

Rising Brit star Alexis Rodney, seen in Guardians of the Galaxy, Outlander and the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons film (alongside Regé-Jean Page and Chris Pine), has joined The Gentlemen, Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series inspired by his own 2019 Miramax action comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Rodney — who recently shot dark comedy Young Gun — joins an ensemble cast led by Theo James (The White Lotus), and also including Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), Kaya Scodelario (Crawl), Daniel Ings (I Hate Suzie), Joely Richardson (Lady Chatterley’s Lover), Peter Serafinowicz (The Tick) and Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels).
In a story closely linked to the 2019 film The Gentlemen and set in the same world, the eight-part series will follow James’ character, Eddie Horniman, who inherits his father’s sizable estate only to discover that it’s sitting on top of the biggest weed farm in Europe.

Stranger Things has revealed the title of its season five premiere and fans are certain it points to good news for Eddie Munson.
During the sci-fi’s nail-biting season four finale, Eddie (Joseph Quinn) is last seen in the Upside Down mortally wounded by Demobats.
However, Netflix has some fans convinced that Eddie will make a recovery after revealing that season five’s first episode would be named “The Crawl”.
On Twitter, one person pointed out, “Crawling huh...”, noting its connection to Eddie’s heroic season four rendition of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets”, which includes the lyrics: “Come crawling faster.”
Meanwhile, in an earlier episode, Eddie informs his friends: “I am army-crawling my way toward a D in Ms O’Donnell’s.”
“This Cant Be A Coincidence,” a second responded, while a third agreed: “This Has to have something to do with Eddie I legit can’t think of anything else.

There’s no better form of getting over a dead parent or spouse than combatting a killer animal. At least that’s the thesis of The Shallows, Crawl, and now Beast. Arriving in the coveted late-August B-movie spot (basically the January doldrums for slightly cooler people), Beast is a lean and likably earnest, if slightly unremarkable, creature feature. The newest from director Baltasar Kormakur––who has not quite graduated to the IP blockbuster class while his contemporary Jaume Collet-Serra (who used to specialize in these kinds of movies) now serves as master to The Rock––seems to prove the Icelandic journeyman is perhaps destined for Vulgar Auteurist glory in our degraded age. If never undercutting the somewhat ridiculous scenario with bad jokes and even unafraid of making some overt stabs at psychology with dream sequences, it’s the kind of genre film unafraid to have the stakes clear and just serious enough.

After a top seven made up entirely of holdovers last weekend, the box office gets some new blood this weekend with the top spots likely to be held by Beast and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, both of which could open in the double digits. These releases may not bring a boost to the overall box office, which dropped to 65.4 million last weekend, the lowest since February and worse than any pre-pandemic weekend since 2001. However, the two newcomers may be able to keep the numbers afloat after five weekends of decline, with the box office dropping by 28.9 last weekend.

This review of “Don’t Make Me Go” was first published June 13, 2022, after its release in theaters.
Your enjoyment of the mostly half-baked road trip drama “Don’t Make Me Go” will probably depend on how you respond to its last-minute plot twist.
John Cho stars in and emotionally grounds this two-star tearjerker from director Hannah Marks (“After Everything”), which follows an insurance salesman who struggles to tell his teenage daughter that he’s got a malignant tumor when they travel cross-country to New Orleans for his college reunion.
Unfortunately, the movie’s unexpected plot twist violently re-directs its treacly uplift narrative for the sake of a Hail Mary conclusion that’s almost ridiculous enough to be campy fun. It’s not though, since the twist in question feels like a last-ditch effort to convince viewers that the movie’s otherwise plain story, credited to Vera Herbert (series writer on “This Is Us...

As much as I’d rather not criticize, it’s become obvious that any article site one visits is going to start praising Quentin Tarantino after commenting for a couple of sentences on his decision to name Crawl as his favorite movie of the year. This seems to be the trend as Ryan Lattanzio of IndieWire would indicate since Tarantino is a film legend to a lot of people and his words seem to come weighted in gold for many. Granted, the guy has made some great movies, but thinking that this is news is one reason why journalism is dying or

Alexandre Aja’s Crawl was perhaps the biggest surprise horror hit of the summer. The aquatic scream fest, which followed a young woman (Kaya Scodelario) navigating through a Florida hurricane to rescue her father (Barry Pepper) from ferocious alligators, was a critical and commercial success. With a $13.5 million budget, Crawl went on to earn nearly $90 million around the world, as well as a more-than-healthy 82% on Rotten Tomatoes (here’s our glowing review).
We Got This Covered recently had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Aja about the aesthetics of his latest film, as well as the mechanics behind the performances of his two lead actors.
Be sure to check out our conversation down below and enjoy!

Famed horror director Alexandre Aja, whose credits include The Hills Have Eyes, Horns, Piranha and Mirrors, returns to cinema screens after a three-year absence with Crawl. A creature-feature set during a category five hurricane in Florida. Crawl follows Kaya Scodelario’s Haley in a desperate state for survival with her father Dave (Barry Pepper) as they both become trapped in his basement that is flooding at an enormous pace. Only to be joined by a few hungry alligators for good measure.
Crawl is a return to form on a few levels. Namely elevating the genre from that of the dwindling and limited explosive creature feature genre that has been reappropriated for a more comedic and less cinematic fortune with features from production company The Asylum.

If you saw the summer’s best non-Tarantino studio thus far, Crawl, then you were treated with a special surprise: the full trailer for Craig Zobel’s The Hunt. While a teaser landed online a few weeks back, Universal was kept the full version strictly available in theaters, but now they’ve released it online. Coming from the director of Compliance and Z for Zachariah, it’s also a collaboration with writers Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse (The Leftovers) and producer Jason Blum.
Starring Ike Barinholtz, Betty Gilpin, Emma Roberts, Justin Hartley, Glenn Howerton, and Hilary Swank, the film follows a group of globalist elites who meet at the remote Manor House to hunt down humans for sport. When one of the hunted fights back, the game changes.
Watch below.
