Producers of the indie film musical “Americana Dream” have tapped Nashville-based music artists Mary Sarah and Sam Varga to play the story’s central couple, Billie Carton and Lucky Fontana.
Sarah and Varga nabbed the leading roles after an extensive nationwide search for singer-songwriters to act in the original musical written and directed by Ate de Jong and co-written by Variety’s Steven Gaydos.
“Americana Dream” takes viewers behind the scenes of the film’s titular reality TV music competition program, where Lucky and Billie transition from imposters willing to do anything for money and fame, to a real couple, willing to sacrifice their dreams of success for real love and their real music.
Sarah was a finalist on season 10 of NBC’s “The Voice” and is set to star in Justin Ward’s upcoming film comedy “Paradise: The Movie.” Sarah recorded her first album “Bridges,” when she was only...

Nashville singer-songwriter Kalie Shorr will release her new EP I Got Here by Accident on August 13th. On Thursday, she released a new song from the Butch Walker-produced project in the form of the grungy, autobiographical “Love Child.”
Built around a melodic, lightly distorted guitar riff, “Love Child” tells Shorr’s story from before she was born. “Daddy came here on a boat/Momma came here on a plane/I got here by accident/But God doesn’t make mistakes,” she sings in the opening lines, referencing the title...

Sunday night’s Grammys featured a slew of incredible performances, but there was one the stood out above all others. Yes, it happened — Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion performed “Wap” live on primetime television.
Before the performance, the main question was simply How the duo would be able to pull off the song, considering its explicit lyrics. The answer was simple: they replaced most of the words and bleeped out the ones that couldn’t be easily replaced. In fact, the changes brought the duo’s lip syncing — a common practice at the Grammys — into sharp focus for some.
But the big question after the performance? How conservatives would react to the display.

Even though it will mean a huge dent in his income for the foreseeable future, Ron Gallo wants you to stay the fuck home.
That’s exactly what he did this past Saturday (and again on Sunday, for the European audience), after his show at Melted Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio, was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Broadcasting via Instagram Live from his home studio in Nashville, Gallo staged a concert he appropriately hashtagged “#staythefuckhome.”

It’s been nearly a week since a series of tornadoes struck the Nashville area on March 3rd, causing widespread damage in the city’s densely populated neighborhoods — including the destruction of beloved music venue the Basement East — and killing more than two dozen people in the surrounding area. Volunteers have been working overtime to clear streets and yards or bring food and other necessities to affected areas, but it’s going to be a long road to recover and rebuild.

For several years running, Kalie Shorr has been one of country music’s most promising new artists — for how she melds an appreciation of the genre’s roots with an unabashed love for emo and pop, for her cutting songwriting, and for how she’s made her feminism a vital part of her musical perspective. Though she released an Ep, Awake, last year, she’s stopped short of a full-length. That will change on September 27th with Open Book, Shorr’s debut LP, which she co-wrote and also co-produced. The album’s first single,...

The 2018 Cmt Artists of the Year special highlighted the accomplishments of country music’s biggest names while shining a light on the issue of gender equality in the genre. This was the first in the event’s eight-year history to feature an all-female list of honorees, bookmarking a year dominated by the #MeToo movement and debate over why women aren’t well represented on country radio.
