The British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) have revealed the nomination longlists for Best Feature Documentary and Best International Independent Film categories. In addition, BIFA’s Raindance Discovery Award longlist has also been unveiled.
Of the 15 films longlisted for Best Feature Documentary, eight are directed by women. The 17 films longlisted for Best International Independent Film have already won top prizes from this year’s premier international festivals.
The final five nominations in each category will be announced in early November and winners will be revealed at the 25th annual BIFA ceremony on Dec. 4.

Exclusive: Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American distribution rights to When We Speak, director Tas Brooker’s British documentary about three high profile whistleblowers.
Gravitas will release the film in North American cinemas and on demand on July 15.
Shot over two years, the film features actress Rose McGowan, one of the first to speak out on sexual abuse in Hollywood, British intelligence employee Katharine Gun and Oxfam aid worker Helen Evans. The three women share their motivations, experiences and the fallout that resulted in each of their cases.

Tcb Media Rights, the profitable British distributor entangled in the collapse of Kew Media Group, has financed a documentary about supercars built under the Nazi regime, as part of a brace of new factual projects.
Tcb has given a greenlight to Hitler’s Supercars, a 60-minute film made by UK production company Wiser Films, which reveals how Hitler ordered two German car manufacturers to build the most high-performance vehicles in the world.
