Kirk Larson
- Producer
- Sound Department
- Actor
Kirk Larson has enjoyed movies for as long as he can remember. While he was in grade school, he taught himself how to use the school's brand new VHS camcorder and related equipment. With this knowledge, he developed and filmed a documentary highlighting what a day in the life at his school was like. Throughout grade school and middle school, he portrayed different roles in school plays, from Ebenezer Scrooge to a Supreme Court Justice. Sometimes he would stay in during recess to write short skits (often slapstick comedy!), drafting classmates to act with him when the other kids returned.
In high school, he again participated in school plays doing some acting, but eventually moved to crew roles. He became the first technical director in his school's history, focusing on everything from set creation to sound to special effects. For one play, with no budget, he worked with his science teacher to develop a complex effect that simulated a knife being thrown across the stage narrowly missing an actress. On the night of the play, the audience gasped thinking the knife was actually thrown!
In college, he taught himself how to setup home theater surround sound, helping many people install their systems. With the rise of independent filmmaking, Kirk began to reach out to filmmakers to support their work and to learn from them. And as a longstanding supporter of physical media, he was always happy to add their work to his library.
In late 2022, Kirk was fortunate to have a chance encounter with Derek Braasch and Nina Trader (owners of Cheevies Film Productions). Derek was very supportive of Kirk's interests and invited him to help with a future film. Less than two months later, Kirk had his first role as a Production Assistant on one of Derek and Nina's projects.
Noted for his optimism, can do attitude, and friendly demeanor, Kirk is continually improving his skill set. He has served in numerous roles including Set Builder, Production Assistant, Boom Operator, Sound Recordist, Actor, and Producer. One of his personal sayings is "I'll do anything for the perfect shot!"; maybe he'll help you get that perfect shot someday...
