Stephen Merchant has revealed he has no plans for further episodes of The Outlaws after the incoming series three: more details here.
Stephen Merchant took the British comedy scene by storm in 2001 when he wrote and directed The Office with Ricky Gervais. Since then, they have collaborated on Extras, Life’s Too Short, An Idiot Abroad and feature film Cemetery Junction. He went on to forge a successful solo career, from stand up tour Hello Ladies and the American sitcom of the same name to his successful pivot into hour long crime comedy with The Outlaws, which returns for its third series next week.
Created by Merchant and Elgin James, the show follows a disparate group of people assigned to community service for various reasons which gradually reveal themselves.
Merchant himself plays the socially awkward lawyer Greg, Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning plays hardnosed supervisor Diane, Rhianne Barreto plays Oxford hopeful Rani,...

"It's not them I'm worried about." Paramount+ in the UK has unveiled an official trailer for a horror thriller film titled No Escape, from director Hans Herbots and writer Kris Mrksa. Reinventing themselves on the other side of the world, 19-year-old Brits Kitty and Lana find refuge on a yacht in the Philippines called "The Blue" - full of beautiful people, parties and endless beaches. But in joining her crew, they fall into far greater dangers than the ones they were trying to escape. Sounds like a modern version on The Beach, involving a yacht and pirates this time. Adapted from a book by Lucy Clarke. "It's been the most incredible experience to see my novel re-imagined for screen. “After the overwhelming response to the first two series, I’m delighted to be bringing back our lovable band of miscreants for more misadventures. The Outlaws is one of the best shows of the year.
With its blend of humor, action, and fine acting, it has everything you'd expect from a TV show with the talent involved.
TV Fanatic chatted with Rhianne Barreto (Rani) and Gamba Cole (Christian) about the show, premiering April 1 on Prime Video.
"It was many things, you know, the possibility of working with Stephen Merchant obviously sits there, you know, number one. He's an icon, not just in the UK but also in the U.S.," Cole shared of what drew him to the show.
Gamba added that the project was personal to him because he was born in Bristol, and he always wanted to go back and act there.
The star said that he connected with the stories and the characters.
"I think it's very nice as actors when you get right in, and you are gripped."

He co-created two iconic British comedies, The Office and Extras; starred in Hollywood movies including Logan and The Girl in the Spider’s Web; and directed Florence Pugh and The Rock in Fighting with my Family. For his next trick, Stephen Merchant along with Elgin James has created The Outlaws, an ensemble comedy about a group of low-level offenders brought together via community service.
Merchant himself stars in the show alongside Rhianne Barreto, Darren Boyd, Gamba Cole, Clare Perkins, Eleanor Tomlinson and Christopher Walken as the misfit convicts.
We sat down with him to chat about British humor, comic book movies, and Christopher Walken’s cooking.
Where did the idea for The Outlaws come from?
My parents used to work for Bristol Community Service, and they would supervise offenders who were doing some time. I was always intrigued because it was such an unlikely bunch. There was an old guy who...

Hulu has released an official trailer for “The Girl From Plainville” — a limited series inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter’s “texting suicide” case.
Based on Jesse Barron’s Esquire article of the same name, “The Girl From Plainville” dives into Carter’s (Elle Fanning) relationship with Conrad Roy III (Colton Ryan) and his following death, which led to her conviction of involuntary manslaughter.
“All he thought about was dying… I really just wanted to help him,” says Fanning’s Carter in the gripping trailer, which is full of unsettling text messages and moments both following and leading up to Roy’s death.
In addition to Fanning and Ryan, the series also stars Chloë Sevigny as Lynn Roy, Cara Buono as Gail Carter, Kai Lennox as David Carter and Norbert Leo Butz as Conrad Roy II.

"We could use this money to do something real!" Amazon has revealed a new official US trailer for a British comedy series titled The Outlaws, finally arriving for streaming in the US on Prime Video this April. The first season already debuted in the UK on BBC last fall. Seven strangers from different walks of life forced together to finish a community payback sentence in Bristol. They're sent to clean up a derelict community center, until one day they discover a hidden bag of drug money. Will they all be able to agree on what to do with it? The Outlaws main cast features Stephen Merchant, Rhianne Barreto, Darren Boyd, Gamba Cole, Clare Perkins, Eleanor Tomlinson, Charles Babalola, Isla Gie, with Christopher Walken. This looks kooky and amusing, though I'm not sure it has the right stuff to become a modern classic. They're already prepping Season 2 in the UK while...

When will shady organisations learn that if they’re going to breed a squadron of teen girl super soldiers, their range of genetic enhancements needs to include an off switch? Yes, teenagers can fly under the assassin radar, but rebellion is built in. Brainwashed or not, at some point your murder-optimised darling will turn on you and when she does, you’ll rue the day you made her quite such an efficient killing machine.
Hanna, Utrax, the forest, Erik and Marissa
Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles), the sole surviving member of the 2003 Utrax generation of wolf-dna-enhanced babies, is the most efficient killing machine of all. She has every genetic improvement plus a lifetime of survival and combat training from former military man Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman). He was a Utrax recruiter who developed qualms about his job convincing vulnerable women to sign over their unborn babies for experimentation by the CIA.

The BBC and Amazon have released new images of Christopher Walken (“Severance”) and “Poldark” star Eleanor Tomlinson in upcoming Stephen Merchant production “The Outlaws.”
The show, which is written and directed by Merchant (“Jojo Rabbit”), marks Walken’s first role in a British television series. In one of the first images from the show, (above) he can be seen in an orange high-vis jacket leaning against a graffiti-covered wall.
Tomlinson, meanwhile, swaps corsets and bosom-bearing gowns for ’80s style padded jackets and a trilby in “The Outlaws,” which was previously known as “The Offenders.”
The plot of the show focuses on seven strangers with disparate lives who find themselves thrown together as they finish a Community Payback scheme – which is a non-custodial sentence sometimes handed down for less severe crimes – in Bristol, in the South West of England. The scheme requires participants to wear high-vis orange vests as they carry out their tasks.

Exclusive: BBC One and Amazon’s Stephen Merchant series The Offenders has been renewed for a second season before the first has even been shot, executive producer Kenton Allen has revealed.
In an interview with Deadline, the Big Talk Productions CEO said that the two seasons are being filmed back-to-back in Bristol, southwest England, in an unexpected fillip for the comedy-drama after it was shut down in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Allen said filming on the six-part series, which will star Christopher Walken, was halted after just 12 days last March, at which point the BBC asked if Merchant would consider writing a second season.
This quickly snowballed into a green light for Season 2 after all parties agreed that it would make sense to shoot both seasons at the same time. Production got back underway in Bristol late last year and the shoot will run to October 2021 as Big...

Our year-end coverage continues with a look at the best performances of the year. Rather than divide categories into supporting or lead, we’ve written about our thirty favorite performances from 2019, period. Check out our countdown below and start watching the ones you’ve missed here.
30. Masahiro Higashide (Asako I & II)
Japanese director Ryūsuke Hamaguchi followed up his five-hour drama Happy Hour with Asako I & II, an endlessly imaginative and playful riff on Vertigo as well as an adaptation of Tomoka Shibasak’s 2010 novel. Setting our perspective with Erika Karata as Asako Izumiya–a woman who gets entangled with a man who looks the same in two different periods of her life–the actress is excellent in the lead role. However, it’s Masahiro Higashide as the men in question, playing both Ryohei Maruko and Baku Torii, that vibes perfectly with the mysterious, enigmatic vibe the director is exploring here.
