"Is there anyone willing to share a shame?" Gravitas has revealed an official US trailer for the strange dark comedy titled Bad Behaviour, yes with the British spelling of "Behaviour." It's from New Zealand, made by an Australian actress named Alice Englert, who also co-stars. It first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and was regarded as one of the worst films at the festival by most critics. Bad Behaviour is a dark comedy about Lucy, a former child actress who seeks enlightenment at a retreat led by spiritual leader Elon while she also navigates the close yet turbulent relationship with her stunt performer daughter, Dylan. It stars Jennifer Connelly, Ben Wishaw, Alice Englert, Ana Scotney, Dasha Nekrasova, Marlon Williams, Beulah Koale, and Karan Gill. Described as a "dull, weird movie about an unpleasant woman seeking enlightenment [that's] as aimless as its characters." It's finally set to land on VOD in the US in June.

"I just got dumped by my future." Film Movement has revealed an official US trailer for a Kiwi coming-of-age comedy called Millie Lies Low, marking the feature directorial debut of a filmmaker named Michelle Savill. This initially premiered at the 2021 New Zealand Film Festival, before also screening at many other fests in 2022: Berlinale, SXSW, Melbourne, Edinburgh, Philadelphia. Set to open in US art house theaters this month. Anxiety-ridden Millie is on her way from Wellington to NYC for an internship at a prestigious architecture firm when a moment of panic causes her to miss her flight - so she pretends to be there anyway while camping out in New Zealand. It's been compared to Fleabag + Eighth Grade, which should be enough to get your attention. Starring Ana Scotney as Millie, Rachel House, Chris Alosio, Jillian Nguyen, & Sam Cotton. This also reminds me of the dark comedy Not Okay with...

After a couple of shorts under her belt, the Australian enlisted Jennifer Connelly, Ben Whishaw (who appeared in Englert’s short Family Happiness), Ana Scotney, Dasha Nekrasova, Karan Gill, Marlon Williams and Englert herself on a project set in New Zealand. Millie Lies Low kicks off with an interesting idea. Also, an idea I was instantly uncomfortable with.
I don’t like over-focus on personal suffering, though that is me. Please don’t let my personal bugbears get in the way of your enjoying a drama that’s both different and, in its own small way, has some stuff to say about social awkwardness, anxiety, and the fear of offending. Though there may be other reasons for being less than positive about Millie and her lying low.
Here’s the set-up. We open with Millie (Ana Scotney) on a plane – and then Millie getting off a plane. It looks like a panic attack. Unfortunately, that doesn’t count as a medical emergency. So, it’s goodbye flight and, more seriously, hello to a 2,000 bill if she wants a new ticket. Did I mention that Millie is a talented New Zealand architectural...

Millie Lies Low is a dryly funny deadpan character study of the titular deeply troubled sociopath, and her faux journey to a New York architecture firm Internship placement. Having recently beaten her best friend (Jillian Nguyen) and fellow classmate for the position, for reasons not yet known Millie is overcome by a panic attack and desperately claws her way off the plane bound for the States from Wellington Airport. Millie mills about, alot throughout this film it turns out, it is on the tin, 'lies low'. This translates into the brilliant non-verbal comedy, often minutes without dialogue, that give way to Millie's manic energy garnered mostly from her facial expressions. When she realizes what she has done, and that a...

Michelle Savill’s poignant film follows a would-be architect pretending to take up a prestigious New York internship without leaving her home town of Wellington
‘Sorry, I’m such a disappointment to you, Mum.” “We can’t all be appointments.” That’s the fumbling, poignant way of this debut comedy-drama from New Zealand director Michelle Savill, clearly a highly personal piece of work in its detailed character study of would-be architect and social-media blagger Millie, played in charmingly evasive style by Ana Scotney.
Millie has a hot ticket from Wellington to New York for an internship at a blue-chip architecture firm, but has a panic attack and disembarks before takeoff. In denial about what’s happened, and unable to admit her failure, she decides to keep up the pretence online, dropping in a cut-and-paste of an airplane window into her Instagram feed (“A new adventure begins!!!!”). "I can feel you flowing through!!" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a new comedy series titled God's Favorite Idiot, the latest creation from the husband-wife comedy duo Melissa McCarthy & Ben Falcone. Usually Falcone directs McCarthy in Hollywood comedies but this time he stars as the main character in this workplace comedy about what would happen if he suddenly started glowing after being struck by lightning. In God's Favorite Idiot, Mid level Tech support employee Clark Thompson finds love with co-worker Amily Luck at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. There's also roller skating, a lake of fire and an apocalypse, too. This looks like they went all out with the religious imagery. Falcone stars with McCarthy, and an ensemble cast including Leslie Bibb as Satan, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. This seems extra quirky...

Heaven, hell, and office romances: real-life couple and comedy duo Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone lead Netflix comedy “God’s Favorite Idiot,” premiering on the streamer June 15.
McCarthy and Falcone co-founded On the Day Productions, and have written and produced films like “Tammy,” “The Boss” and “Life of the Party” together with Falcone directing. Now, the creative partners lead “God’s Favorite Idiot,” which is part “Bruce Almighty” and part workplace comedy.
Falcone stars as unassuming tech support employee Clark Thompson who pines after his co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy). After being struck by lightning, Clark begins to glow — and not just because his crush is reciprocated. Turns out, Clark is now anointed, and must battle Satan (Leslie Bibb) with the help of Amily.
The eight-episode series also stars Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. “God’s Favorite Idiot” is Oscar nominee McCarthy’s follow-up TV role...

A higher power is calling upon Ben Falcone to do some good in God’s Favorite Idiot, the latest comedy from the actor-creator and Melissa McCarthy that drops June 15 on Netflix. The streamer has unveiled the first trailer for the series (see above).
Here’s the logline for the comedy: “Clark Thompson (Falcone) is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him. Clark can’t save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). Together, they’re just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can’t save the world alone.

Ben Falcone is the Chosen One. On Friday, Netflix released the trailer for its upcoming comedy series “God’s Favorite Idiot,” in which Falcone stars alongside his wife Melissa McCarthy.
The series follows Falcone’s Clark Thompson, a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him.
In the trailer, which you can watch above, Clark is struck by lightning — and Amily witnesses it. The next day, she races to work to tell their co-workers what happened.
“I saw something crazy last night, and I do want to just be completely open and honest,” she says. “Yes, I did cocaine twice last week, but I did zero cocaine preceding the event I’m about to describe.

They only spent one summer together as children, but the connection they share from blood and heritage ultimately lasts a lifetime, whether they know it could or not. Makareta (Mihi Te Rauhi Daniels) promised young Mata (Te Raukura Gray) that she’d never give up looking for her—because even though they were together now, British laws had intervened to ensure that moment remained brief. It didn’t matter that Makareta, Missy (Keyahne Patrick Williams), and the rest of their Māori family wanted to keep her in their arms and raise her in the land where her mother now rested. Mata’s father had already given her to a woman in England only too willing to use her as a revenue stream upon graduating from a school for desolate children.

Based on the novel by celebrated New Zealand author Patricia Grace, “Cousins” tells the story of three women bound by ancestry and separated by time. The film was helmed by Māori filmmaking duo Ainsley Gardiner and Briar Grace-Smith and debuted at number one at New Zealand’s box office when it was released earlier this year. Gardiner is best known as producer on the early films by Taika Waititi, including his acclaimed directorial debut “Eagle vs Shark.” Both Gardiner and Grace-Smith directed segments of the critically beloved 2017 drama “Waru,” which was directed cooperatively.
Here’s the official synopsis: “‘Cousins’ follows three Māori cousins—Mata, Missy and Makareta—who lead separate lives, yet are bound together forever. Orphaned Mata believes she has no whānau (family) and lives out her lonely childhood in fear and bewilderment. In the fun-sounding God’s Favorite Idiot, mid level tech support employee Clark Thompson (Falcone) finds love with co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy) at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God. Also, there’s roller skating, a lake of fire and an impending apocalypse.
Netflix gave the workplace comedy a 16-episode order last December. A start date has yet to be revealed.

Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a comedy from New Zealand titled The Breaker Upperers, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year. Executive produced by Taika Waititi, the film is co-written and co-directed by the two women who star: Madeleine Sami and Jackie van Beek. This does look hilarious, and it's an original concept these two came up with and have worked passionately on to make it really sing.
