- Marshall Castelo Branco, as he is best known, was the first president the military regime in Brazil which lasted 21 years. During his tenure, several politicians had their mandates annulled, freedom of press was forbidden and censorship was rampant. The general idea was to eliminate from view supporters from the previous govern, the socialist inclined João Goulart. Globo Organizations finally got their major concession to operate during his term with a TV network, now considered one of the biggest in the world. His death on a plane crash in 1967 is one of the greatest mysteries of all, with official reports mentioning that his plane lost control during flight while the most famous version mentions that the plane was accidentally shot down by another military craft - and that final version makes it seem it wasn't a complete accident since Castelo had enemies who weren't enthusiastic with the way he conducted his administration, and therefore wanted him out of the picture.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Rodrigo Amaro

- The plane crash that resulted in his death on 18 July, 1967, isn't completely explained, leading to many theories. The military records inform that his plane hit a small jet on the way back to the capital but the most valid theory is that another military plane hit Castelo Branco's aircraft mid-air on purpose since the current administration weren't too pleased with his soft politics against enemies of the government, which later was transformed into a more radical leadership.
