Jennifer Donnelly’s YA novel Poisoned has been acquired by Endeavor Content. Lynette Howell Taylor’s 51 Entertainment and Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories are producing. Published today by Scholastic Press, the novel is an empowering re-imagining of Snow White. Aided by seven mysterious strangers, Sophie’s journey of survival in the forest while facing a terrifying enemy will forever change the perceptions of strength, power, and the real meaning of “happily ever after.”
It’s the second adaptation in the works for the author, Endeavor Content and the producers, who aim to build a revisionist fairy tale universe of films and TV that lean into badass fairy tale heroines hatched on the page by Donnelly. That started with the author’s 2019 New York Times bestseller Stepsister, a fiercely feminist retelling of Cinderella. Emma Frost has completed the script for that movie and talks are underway with directors.
