By the time Halloween wraps up, most people have tucked away their pumpkins and spider webs in favour of colourful wreaths and Santa figurines. For horror fans, it means Krampus and blood covered snow now take centre stage. The holiday of Christmas naturally lends itself to the horror genre, spawning favourites that include Black Christmas, Silent Night, Deadly Night, Rare Exports, and more. However, many films are too gruesome for younger people to enjoy.
To let children in on the festive and frightful fun, here is a variety of age-appropriate Christmas horror film and television specials the entire family can enjoy.
Creeped Out: Splinta Claws (2019)
Season 2, Episode 10
“Everyone knows there are nice children as well as naughty. But are there good and bad Santas as well?” This question is posed in the opening of the “Splinta Claws” episode of the anthology series Creeped Out on Netflix, which originally released in the UK and Canada.

The Amazon MGM Studios’ epic holiday action comedy is based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, president of production at Seven Bucks Productions. Jake Kasdan directed the movie from a script by Morgan.

Exclusive, Updated: The latter half of the 2024 theatrical release schedule just got a shot of testosterone as Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks’ epic Christmas action comedy Red One just set an exclusive global theatrical release for Nov. 15, 2024.
Similar to other committed Amazon MGM theatrical titles of late, i.e. Air and Saltburn, Red One will have a theatrical window before streaming on its ultimate home, which is Prime Video.
By releasing Red One theatrically on November 15, Amazon MGM Studios is looking to take advantage of the traditionally lucrative holiday corridor before Thanksgiving. Rival wide releases on Nov. 15 include Warner Bros. Robert De Niro mobster movie, Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I hear that the movie has tested twice and scores were through the roof. This was in the last week, we understand. The original testing of the movie over the summer...

This Weekend’s What To Watch List Is A Cinematic Mix of Laughter, Thrills, and Festive Surprises(Photo Credit –IMDb)
In this week’s cinematic lineup, viewers can anticipate a diverse range of releases, from the festive cheer of “Merry Little Batman” to the suspenseful drama of “Leave the World Behind” and the heart-stopping, horror-inducing narrative of “Thanksgiving.” However, it’s worth noting a somewhat unexpected scarcity of Christmas-focused movies in this listicle. Despite the historical trend of feel-good holiday films during this season, the current offerings showcase an intriguing mix of genres, encompassing not only Christmas tales but also comedy, action, thriller, and horror. The cinematic choices are indeed varied, ensuring a plethora of options for audiences seeking entertainment beyond the traditional yuletide fare.
Whether you’re in the mood for laughter, adrenaline-pumping action, spine-chilling thrills, or heartwarming moments, this listicle unveils a cinematic smorgasbord that goes beyond the anticipated Christmas movie lineup.

This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.
The Mandalorian season 3 is coming to an end, and things aren’t looking great for the Mandalorians. Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) has finally united the Mandalorian clans behind the Darksaber, only for her landing party to fall into Moff Gideon’s (Giancarlo Esposito) trap at the Great Forge on Mandalore. Meanwhile, Grogu is once again separated from his father when Din is captured by the Empire. Things could get even worse: it’s possible the Mandalorians will soon discover that one of their own is a spy for Gideon.
Even though this season hasn’t been the most consistent, all of the pieces seem to come together in “The Spies,” and we can’t wait to see how this season wraps up all these story threads. Here’s everything you need to know before the season 3 finale of The Mandalorian…

This post contains spoilers for episode 4 of "The Mandalorian" season 3.
Our main takeaway from this week's episode of "The Mandalorian" is that it's probably a good time for the Children of the Watch to find some other planet to live on — one where there are less giant monsters trying to eat them. The first episode of season 3 opened on a tasty looking, giant alligator creature attacking the tribe. In episode 4, there's yet another natural threat waiting just a mountain over.
After our brief interlude to Coruscant under the New Republic last week, "The Foundling" refocuses back to our core cast. After physically seeing the Mythosaur in the Living Waters, Bo-Katan continues her new crisis of faith as she takes new comfort in living by the creed. Now that Din has returned to his people as a redeemed man, he plans to integrate Grogu into the orthodox tribe as well. How...

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 4 "The Foundling."
In the latest episode of "The Mandalorian," Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) continues to be more than the Mvp, even as a part of The Children of the Watch, in whose eyes, she is now redeemed. Directed by Carl Weathers, "The Foundling" keeps things short and sweet, focusing on a foundling rescue mission and an unexpected flashback to Order 66 at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. As Grogu re-lives painful memories of that fateful night, we are treated to discovering the Jedi who rescued him after all — it is Master Kelleran Beq, played by none other than Ahmed Best, whose cameo is a sure-shot highlight of the episode.
Circling back to The Children of the Watch, Bo-Katan immediately makes herself useful as a new recruit, taking the onus of heading the search and rescue party for Paz Vizsla's son, Ragnar (Wesley Kimmel...

This Star Wars article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.
In “The Apostate,” we reunite with Mando and Grogu for a new adventure to Mandalore. But first, a few side quests that take the duo back to the Armorer and Greef Karga. Along the way, we learn that a character from The Mandalorian‘s past is making a surprise return. And if that weren’t enough, the season 3 premiere also has quite a few other callbacks that will raise eyebrows, including one or two things from The Clone Wars!
Here are all the Star Wars easter eggs and references we spotted in this episode:
Gorian Shard
“The Apostate” introduces a brand-new villain to the Mandoverse. Meet the pirate king Gorian Shard. We have no idea what species he is, but we do know Gorian is very, very cross with Greef Karga. Nevarro’s gone legit and the pirates have been cut out of the spoils.

Netflix’s February rotation has much more to offer than just romance movies, though if you’re looking to extend the Valentine’s Day mood, several options like the Reese Witherspoon rom-com “Your Place Or Mine” from “The Devil Wears Prada” scribe Aline Brosh McKenna will warm your heart. “La La Land” could also satisfy the longing for a love story, but self-love is the most important, and “Eat, Pray, Love” can help you with that.
For those not feeling the love, “Lyle Lyle, Crocodile” promises fun for the whole family with the help of music from “La La Land” composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Shawn Mendes, who voices a CGI crocodile who only expresses himself through song, also contributed an original song to the film.

“The Devil Wears Prada” and “27 Dresses” writer Aline Brosh McKenna’s directorial debut “Your Place Or Mine” stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. A strong ensemble cast includes Steve Zahn, Jesse Williams, Tig Notaro and Zoe Chao along with Wesley Kimmel. The film heads to Netflix Friday, Feb. 10.
Peter (Kutcher) lives in New York where he looks forward to change in his consulting job and love life. Debbi (Witherspoon) lives in Los Angeles with her son Jack (Kimmel), and she clings to structure and routine. The two are exact opposites, but they have been best friends for 20 years ever since they had a one-night stand that didn’t go anywhere. Peter loves “The Cars,” and the film contains quite a few of their hits.
For Debbie, McKenna wrote the film’s original song “Embers” with the film’s composer Siddhartha and Alan DeMoss, who produced and mixed the score.

The last 20 years have done a number on the romantic comedy. Maligned by disinterested studios churning out tepid derivatives and suffocated by an overbearing discourse marshaled by disappointed fans, the genre can’t seem to catch a break. The headlines have been unsparing: The romantic comedy is dead! The romantic comedy never mattered! Occasionally a film will revive minor faith in the future of the genre, but for the most part recent attempts to save one of cinema’s most cherished categories of comfort food have been forgettable affairs.
Given these circumstances, I approached Your Place or Mine with suspicion and some exasperation. On paper the project has potential: Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher star as Debbie and Peter, the two people we will patiently wait to see fall in love over the course of 2 hours. Both are performers who have built up enough good will over the years to activate our nostalgia.

There is nothing particularly original or groundbreaking in the new Netflix rom-com Your Place or Mine, yet it is just that comfortable familiarity in a movie that isn’t trying to rewrite the rules of engagement in a time-worn genre that makes this pleasing confection a perfect Valentine’s Day offering. In fact, it is the streamers who are filling the bill for couples looking for a little love in their moviegoing, and this one marking a stylish feature directorial debut for veteran screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is sweet enough to make staying at home on the couch for Cupid’s big day a fine alternative to get into the mood.

Early on in Aline Brosh McKenna’s romantic comedy Your Place or Mine, rebranding consultant Peter (Ashton Kutcher) hits the nail on the head about this particular genre of movie: His work is “to teach you to tell a story to other people about you that is better than the story that you tell yourself. Because the stories that we tell ourselves are very limiting.” Rom-coms contain all manner of characters stuck in narratives of their own making: A man who can’t be friends with women (When Harry Met Sally), “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” (27 Dresses), and so forth. But the problem with setting up a movie that initially posits that two former lovers would make better long-distance best friends is… if the leads are never in the same room, it’s difficult to really sell their love.

It’s adorable that “Your Place or Mine” — Netflix’s latest reminder that the streamer is the home for the kind of churned-out rom-coms that used to dominate the multiplex, something we genuinely should be grateful for — kicks off in 2003. What a year! The same year that “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” and “Love Actually” all landed in the top 50 films of the year. Rom-coms! What a concept! But as adorable and tongue-in-cheek as that choice is, more like it are in short supply in Aline Brosh McKenna’s feature directorial debut, which soon gives over to very predictable tropes and tricks.
That is, funnily enough, not entirely a knock against the film, one born of a genre that lives and dies by how comforting and comfortable it proves to be for cinematic consumption. Rom-coms should feel good, and few things are more scary than the unknown.

Reese Witherspoon, who first made a splash 30 years ago, has never lost a drop of her sunny smart charismatic movie-star spunk. Ashton Kutcher, in a career that kicked off in 1998, has had his ups and downs, but he has also grown as an actor, hitting a new peak as the discursive Southern dandy villain of last year’s “Vengeance.” These two are game and seasoned, with a shine of glamour, so teaming them up for a middle-aged romantic comedy sounds perfectly appealing. But what did either of them do to deserve “Your Place or Mine”? It’s a singularly chintzy Netflix rom-com even if you already think of Netflix rom-coms as chintzy. In fact, it’s two bad movies in one.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna makes her feature film directorial debut with the Netflix romantic comedy Your Place or Mine. McKenna really scored with her first directing gig, snagging romantic comedy veterans Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher in starring roles.
Witherspoon and Kutcher play best friends who reside on opposite coasts. Debbie and Peter had a one-night stand 20 years ago and although the romantic relationship ended pretty much as soon as it began, they’ve remained friends through thick and thin. When Debbie needs to spend some time in New York City, she and Peter swap homes, with Peter playing babysitter to Debbie’s son and taking up residence in her LA home. Ashton Kutcher is returning to romantic comedies.
The actor hadn’t been in a rom-com since 2011 when he appeared in “New Year’s Eve” and starred opposite Natalie Portman in “No Strings Attached.” But 12 years later, Kutcher toplines the new Netflix smoocher “Your Place or Mine” with Reese Witherspoon.
“Honestly, I think I had more fun shooting this movie than I ever had,” Kutcher told me Thursday night at film’s premiere in Los Angeles. “It was genuinely a choice. I didn’t need to do it. I didn’t have to do it. It wasn’t like a career-building block. It was like, ‘I want to do this.’”
He gushed over working with Witherspoon. “I got to be in scenes across from a genuine movie star,” Kutcher said. “She’s such a movie star. It was so wonderful and fun and funny and light. There was never a dark day.

House-swaps have been fodder for romantic comedies before, possibly most notably in The Holiday. Little sign of Chrimbo feelings in the new film from Aline Brosh McKenna, but there is plenty of star power thanks to Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. Check out the first trailer…

When they swap houses and lives for a week, they learn they haven't told each other everything after all and discover what they think they want might not be what they really need…
With Jesse Williams, Zoë Chao, Steve Zahn and Tig Notaro also in the cast, Your Place Or Mine arrives on Netflix on 10 February.

Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher play longtime friends who swap homes and wonder about their relationship in the trailer for Netflix’s rom-com Your Place or Mine.
In the film, written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Witherspoon’s Debbie and Kutcher’s Peter met 20 years ago and slept together but have remained friends.
Now Peter is coming to L.A. for a week and he offers to watch her son Jack, and let her stay at his place in New York so she can have a vacation.
While at each other’s homes, Debbie and Peter hang out with each other’s friends and family, with Debbie seeming to develop a friendship with Peter’s neighbor, played by Zoe Chao.
And when Debbie starts dating a man she meets in New York, played by Jesse Williams, Peter appears to chafe at this news.

"I have no idea what to say to this guy?!" Netflix has unveiled the trailer for a sweet new romantic comedy called Your Place or Mine, marking the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. She is an acclaimed writer, creator of the series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend", as well as the scripts for The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, Morning Glory, We Bought a Zoo, and Annie, now she's directing her first film. Debbie and Peter are best friends and total opposites. She craves routine with her son in LA; he thrives on change in NYC. When they swap houses and lives for a week they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need. This sounds a lot like The Holiday, but more about the long-distance romance than the Christmas-themed vibes. Your Place Or Mine Trailer: Reese Witherspoon And Ashton Kutcher Star In The Netflix Romantic Comedy
Got Valentine's Day plans? Then get ready to cancel them! Or, at the very least, make sure to carve out two hours of couch time to bask in the glory of Netflix's star-studded rom-com, "Your Place or Mine," a love story about two best friends who swap houses. Think "The Holiday" minus the, uh, actual holiday. Instead, it follows two people who desperately need a change of setting but, in the process, find themselves stumbling across potential love.
Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher star as longtime friends Debbie and Peter, who met 20 years prior after a memorable night in their young adult lives (*cough* a one night stand *cough*). But that's in the past now and just because they ooze chemistry in their every interaction doesn't mean that they're in love! Anyway, both of these adults already know what they want in life — and it's not each other. Probably.

In “The Holiday” style, Peter suggests they swap houses for a week because as he puts it, Debbie needs a break. Comedian and actress Tig Notaro sends Debbie off with hope that she’ll embark on a new love story. When Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher announced they’d be co-starring in a Netflix rom-com, a generation of moviegoers were elated at the idea of two of the genre’s most bankable stars teaming up for the first time.
That movie is “Your Place or Mine,” and Netflix has dropped the first trailer previewing the pair’s on-screen chemistry. Witherspoon and Kutcher star as Debbie and Peter, who’ve been best friends for 20 years after a “memorable” first meeting (read: one night stand).
“Do you remember the first night we met?” Witherspoon’s Debbie asks early on in the clip, as the two reminisce over the phone. “Never stops being weird,” Kutcher’s Peter replies, and they laugh off the memory.
Despite their obvious initial chemistry, things are now strictly platonic between the two. That’s just what makes sense, considering the fact that they’re also total opposites: she...

Christmas-themed properties are lucrative. It has been a long-running joke that crooner Michael Bublé only surfaces during the holidays when his Christmas songs make regular rotations, and Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas has found recent infamous popularity. Enough to have the pop diva declare herself “Queen of Christmas.” Recently, with films like Violent Night and The Mean One, crossing Christmas with violence and action looks to turn traditional classics on its side.

While Dwayne Johnson is enjoying the box office windfall for his new film, Black Adam, his upcoming holiday movie with Chris Evans, Red One, is adding actors to its cast. Set to star in Red One are Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, Wesley Kimmel, and Mary Elizabeth Ellis. Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) directs from a script by Hiram Garcia based on a story by Chris Morgan.
Red One, also starring Lucy Liu and Kiernan Shipka, is keeping its plot at the bottom of Santa’s sack. However, whispers indicate Amazon is hoping to turn the concept into a franchise, with plans to merchandise the daylights out of its star-studded action-adventure holiday comedy.
Red One features two of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters, Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. Both actors are pillars of superhero cinema, with Johnson playing DC‘s Black Adam, while Evans plays Steve Rogers (Captain America) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

(This article contains spoilers for the first three episodes of the first Disney+ Marvel series, “WandaVision”)
One of the big topics we’re inevitably going to focus on when talking about “WandaVision” over the next couple months will be those fake TV commercials. There was one in each of the first three episodes of the Disney+ show, and there’s little doubt we’ll see more of them as the series goes on.
The first of these commercials is for a fancy toaster, the second is for a fancy watch, and the third is for a bath soak. While these asides might seem like just fun gags — they’re references to other parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — they’re definitely more than just that. In fact, they’re actually important to the plot somehow.
