For a guy who wears some big boots, it’s all about baby steps for our boy Cordi. In TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek (which you can watch above) of the April 17 episode of Walker, “Lessons from the Gift Shop,” our favorite Texas Ranger (Jared Padalecki) is making a grand-ish romantic gesture to his lady love (Odette Annable), and it’s sweeter than Sweet Tea, y’all. It’s also about time! Not that it hasn’t been a rough road for these two to get here. Friends since high school, Geri was besties with Cordi’s future wife Emily (Genevieve Padalecki) and dating his ride-or-die, Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr). Before the show launched, the close-knit crew was rocked by the tragedy of Em’s murder and a bit of betrayal—while Cordell entered law enforcement, Hoyt fell into a life of crime. Things seemed to be getting back...

The Far Cry series’ ticket to popularity was its captivating (and sometimes unstable) villains. Among them, fans widely regard Vaas Montenegro from Far Cry 3 and Pagan Min from Far Cry 4 as two of the best in the franchise.
While both villains undoubtedly make a lasting impact, they approach their roles very differently, leading to heated debate among fans to try and determine which of them is better. Deciding that is no easy task, but we reckoned it was worth a shot.

Remakes were all the rage in the 2000s. Halloween, Friday the 13th, Black Christmas, The Amityville Horror, House of Wax, The Crazies, My Bloody Valentine, The Hills Have Eyes – and the list goes on and on. And then there’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
A Platinum Dunes creation, the 2003 remake did what most remakes fail to do: honor the original while doing something wildly unique and equally as cool. Director Marcus Nispel, also behind the Friday the 13th remake, carves out a special place in the pantheon of horror by trusting his instincts and letting the cast play (and scream along the way). 20 years later, the bright spot in the sea of mediocre remakes still operates on all cylinders, and in many respects, outpaces the 1974 original.

Exclusive: Justin Johnson Cortez, series regular on the CW period drama Walker: Independence, is crossing over into the future as a guest star on Walker.
He will play a potentially recurring new role, which could eventually have ties to Calian, the Indigenous character he plays on Walker: Independence. Cortez will appear on the contemporary Walker as Detective Sonny Alcala, a shrewd Homicide Detective who got his start working closely with Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) and Captain James (Coby Bell) on a case years ago. Warning: the following story contains graphic details concerning a real-life murder case.
"Scream" is easily one of the best - if not the best - slasher movies of all time. Wes Craven's 1996 horror flick cuts the perfect balance between gory scares and black comedy, and the franchise solidified a young Neve Campbell's status as the reigning scream queen of the '90s. The film has spawned five sequels so far, and "Scream 6" - which hit theaters on March 10, 2023 - features a fresh cast of young victims tasked with fending off Ghostface. While the masked murderers who terrorize the unlucky characters in the Scream franchise are fictional, there's another, even more disturbing layer to the story that has roots in reality: "Scream" was inspired by a rash of real-life murders committed by a serial killer in Gainesville, Fl.

In this installment of The Silver Lining, we’ll be covering Jonathan Liebesman’s unfairly maligned prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
While the production company is now mostly known for movies like The Purge and A Quiet Place, it was originally a series of horror remakes that put Platinum Dunes on the map. Flicks like 2005’s The Amityville Horror and 2009’s Friday the 13th made big money at the box office, but it was the astounding success of the 2003 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake that made this endeavor possible in the first place.

So where might a filmmaker go after a no-holds-barred splatterfest that ends with most of the cannibal family being...

And with the success of that initial remake convincing Hollywood that brutal horror was still a sound investment, it makes sense that TCM would be the first movie in Platinum Dunes’ repertoire to garner a sequel. So where might a filmmaker go after a no-holds-barred splatterfest that ends with most of the cannibal family being...

The Texas town of Independence may just be starting out, but this new 1800s-set Walker prequel, Walker Independence, already has its own Butch and Sundance in bad-boy thief Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr) and stoic Apache scout Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez). “They actually make a pretty damn good team,” notes Barr of the unlikely and often at-odds duo who have been helping widowed Abby Walker (Katherine McNamara) catch her husband’s killer. They prove it again in the latest episode, on another Wild West adventure. In the nearby Angel Springs, outlaws keep attacking the whiskey shipments. The residents recruit Hoyt — who had posed as a preacher and swindled the innocent townsfolk out of money in the past — to help. “In order to beat the bandits, they find themselves the best bandit in town,” quips Barr, adding that the charismatic rascal was, ironically, kind of missed. “The stories Hoyt was telling moved these people.

The Wild West was a rough and tumble place, so it’s kind of fitting that the series premiere of Walker Independence begins with a tumble in the sheets in a wagon headed out West that ends in tragedy.
The Walker prequel spinoff introduces us to educated Bostonian Abigail Collins (played by Arrow‘s Katherine McNamara), who is making the trek to the booming frontier town of Independence, Texas, with her cop husband Liam. They’re both looking for a fresh start away from the corruption of Boston. But Abby feels like Liam, who is set to be Independence’s new sheriff,...

In January 2021, the Jared Padalecki-starring and executive-produced “Walker, Texas Ranger” reboot (simply titled “Walker”) premiered as a new hit for The CW. Perhaps not quite infiltrating pop culture the same way as “Riverdale” had, still, it found success as a family and crime drama. The show was soon renewed for a second season, and is about to start its third. In the process of that success, naturally, the series was able to go the spinoff route — making this CW fall season two-for-two for spinoffs on Padalecki-associated vehicles, as the “Supernatural” prequel “The Winchesters” is also premiering soon, and he’s an executive producer on “Walker: Independence.” But the most interesting aspect of both of these spinoffs is that they specifically see value not in telling concurrent or future stories of the characters, but instead going back to the past, in prequel form.

The apple truly doesn’t fall far from the Hoyt Rawlins tree on Walker Independence.
In the prequel spinoff (premiering this Thursday at 9/8c on The CW), Matt Barr stars as a charismatic outlaw who crosses paths with Katherine McNamara’s Abby Walker in the 1800s Western frontier town of Independence, Texas. The role marks an unexpected return to the Walker universe for Barr, who previously played Hoyt’s descendent — also named Hoyt Rawlins — on the mothership series until he met a tragic end in Season 1.

Based on this week’s Big Sky, I’m officially more scared of Sunny Barnes than of her recluse-and-possibly-murderous son in the woods.
What kind of woman croons so soulfully, and with such beautiful tone!, while refusing to help a dying man get help? What kind of monster can turn her smile from radiant to menacing and back in the space of a breath? Forget bears: Sunny is the real menace out there in the dark.

Big Sky life post-Ronald Pergman continues to deliver.
With all things Ronald, Wolf, and the syndicate behind us, Big Sky is moving us into more of a procedural type of crime show. And that's a good thing!
Sprinkling in cases of the week alongside a long-form story has great potential. And that's precisely what Big Sky Season 3 Episode 1 is all about, as we meet our season villain, solve a separate case alongside the police, and have a lot of fun while doing so.
In general, Big Sky has excelled at the big, sweeping stories that take episodes upon episodes to be solved. It's their bread and butter, after all. But they've always struggled knowing when to pull the plug on said stories.
A half-season is probably the maximum amount of time we need to spend on a single case that dominates each hour.
But if they're going to continue down the path of long-form storytelling,...

The CW’s Walker prequel, Walker Independence, is set to premiere on October 6, 2022 at 9pm Et/Pt. The new series takes place in the 1800s but shares a character – and actor – with the original show. Matt Barr stars in Walker Independence as Hoyt Rawlins, an ancestor of the Hoyt Rawlins he plays in Walker.
Speaking to TVLine, Barr described his Walker Independence character as made of the same DNA and heart as Walker‘s Hoyt. “But [Walker‘s] Hoyt was more of a talker, and this guy is a man of action. He’s a little more dangerous,” said Barr.
Katherine McNamara stars as Abby Walker, Justin Johnson Cortez plays Calian, and Katie Findlay is Kate Carver. Lawrence Kao is Kai, Philemon Chambers stars as Augustus, and Greg Hovanessian is Sheriff Tom Davidson.
Season one episode one was written by Seamus Kevin Fahey and directed by Larry Teng.

The black Cadillac pulls into the diner’s parking lot in Queens. Built in the 1950s, the building looks like it only exists on a rainy day, the rock-lined exterior out of another time. I step out of the Uber and look up at the restaurant where, in 1983, my father was arrested after escaping federal prison. He had spent two years on the lam, and was brought down by the U.S. Marshals after eating breakfast with his longtime mistress. He had just come from organizing a new shipment from Colombia.

The CW has ordered to series all three of its pilots: DC Comics-based Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence and The Winchesters.
All three are based on underlying IP: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. Because of their pedigree, solid execution and the fact that this is half the number of pilots the CW has normally picked up over the past decade, all had been major contenders from the start.
2022 The CW Pilots & Series Orders
The Winchesters is said to be the strongest attempt at a Supernatural spinoff to date; it is the first to go to series. Gotham Knights‘ pickup comes as the CW canceled three other DC series: Batwoman, which was set in a similar world, Naomi and Legends of Tomorrow. And Walker: Independence has been getting praise for its expansive Western feel.

The CW has started making pilot orders.
Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, a Walker spinoff and DC universe-set Gotham Knights all have been picked up to pilot.
The move means that both stars of The CW’s Supernatural will be producing pilots for the upcoming season: Jensen Ackles with The Winchesters and Jared Padalecki with Walker: Independence.
The trio of pilot orders is unsurprising – Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva pointed to all three likely making the cut in her Pilot Season 2022 rundown. The network also handed an additional six scripts to the female-fronted Zorro series project.
