Naomi Ellen Watts was born on September 28, 1968 in Shoreham, England to Myfanwy Edwards "Miv" (Roberts), an antiques dealer and costume/set designer, and Peter Watts (Peter Anthony Watts), Pink Floyd's road manager. Her maternal grandfather was Welsh. Her father died when she was seven and she followed her mother and brother around England until she was 14 and they finally settled in Australia, homeland of her maternal grandmother. When they arrived, she coaxed her mother to let her take acting classes. After bit parts in commercials, she landed her first role in For Love Alone (1986). Naomi met her best friend Nicole Kidman when they both auditioned for a bikini commercial and shared a taxi ride home. In 1991, Naomi starred with Kidman in the sleeper hit Flirting (1991), directed by John Duigan. Naomi continued her career by starring in the Australian Brides of Christ (1991) co-starring Oscar-winners Russell Crowe and Brenda Fricker.
In 1993, she worked with John Duigan again in Wide Sargasso Sea (1993) and director George Miller in Gross Misconduct (1993). Tank Girl (1995), in 1995, an adaptation of the comic book was a cult hit, starred Naomi as "Jet Girl", but it didn't do at the box-office or do much for her career. Watts continued to take insignificant parts in movies including the much forgotten film Children of the Corn: The Gathering (1996). It wasn't until David Lynch cast her in the critically acclaimed film Mulholland Drive (2001) that she began to become noticed. Her part as an aspiring actress showed her strong acting ability and wide range and earned her much respect, as much as to say by some that she was overlooked for a Oscar nomination that year. Stardom finally came to Naomi in the surprise hit The Ring (2002), which grossed over $100,000,000 at the box-office and starred Watts as an investigative reporter hunting down the truth behind several mysterious deaths seemingly caused by a video tape. While the movie did not fare well with the critics, it launched her into the spotlight. In 2003, she starred in Alejandro González Iñárritu's 21 Grams (2003) which earned her - what some say is a much overdue Oscar nomination and brought others to call her one of the best in her generation of actors. The same year, she was nominated for 21 Grams (2003), Naomi was chosen to play "Ann Darrow" in director Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) which took her to New Zealand for a five month shoot. Watts completed her first comedy in I Heart Huckabees (2004) for director David O. Russell, playing a superficial spokes model - a break from her usual intense and dramatic roles she is known for.
In 2005, she reprized her role as the protective-mother-reporter "Rachel Keller" in The Ring Two (2005). The movie, released in March, opened to $35,000,000 at the box office in the first weekend and established her as a box-office draw. Also in 2005, it was decided that her independent movie Ellie Parker (2001) would be re-released in late 2005 after its success at resurfacing at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie, which Naomi also produced, features her in the title role and is a bit biographical, but yet exaggerated take of the life of a struggling actress as she comes to Hollywood and encounters nightmares of the profession (it also features Watts' own beat-up Honda which she travels around in). In 2006, she starred with Edward Norton in The Painted Veil (2006). In July of 2007, Naomi gave birth to a boy, Alexander Pete (Sasha Schreiber) in Los Angeles with Liev Schreiber. Since then her career choices have gathered even more critical acclaim with starring roles roles in German director Michael Haneke's American remake of his thriller Funny Games (2007), David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises (2007), and the action-thriller, The International (2009), released in February 2009. In mid-2008, Watts announced she was expecting her second child with Schreiber and gave birth to second son Samuel Kai Schreiber, in New York on December 13.- Actress

Mira Katherine Sorvino was born on September 28, 1967 in Manhattan. She
is the daughter of
Lorraine Davis, an actress turned
drama therapist, and veteran character actor
Paul Sorvino. Her father's family were
Italian immigrants. The young Sorvino was intelligent, an avid reader
and an exceptional scholar. Her father discouraged her from becoming an
actor, as he knew how the industry often chews up young stars. She
attended Harvard, majoring in Chinese, graduating magna cum laude in
1989, largely on the strength of her thesis, a Hoopes Prize-winning
thesis on racial conflict in China, written and researched during the
year spent in Beijing, which helped her fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
However, she showed interest in a career in acting from an early age,
and moved to New York City to try her hand in the City's film industry,
waitressing, auditioning and working at the Tribeca production company
of Robert De Niro. She succeeded in
getting a little television work in the early 1990s, but got her first
film job in the independent gangster movie
Amongst Friends (1993), on which
she worked her way up the ladder behind the camera to eventually
associate-produce the film, and, more importantly, was eventually cast
as the female lead. The indie production was well-received, and
Sorvino's performance attracted enough buzz to get her cast in two more
movies, one a more prominent indie,
Barcelona (1994), the other her first
Hollywood feature, Quiz Show (1994),
and her skillful performances brought her yet more attention.
An exceptionally poised and articulate young woman, she may have seemed
inappropriate to play a crazy hooker, but
Woody Allen took the chance, and her
magnificent performance as the female lead in his
Mighty Aphrodite (1995) proved
her range as a performer and earned her an Oscar (at the tender age of
29) for Best Supporting Actress. Since winning the Oscar, Sorvino has
continued to take a wide range of roles, including another stretch as
Marilyn Monroe in
Norma Jean & Marilyn (1996),
co-starring with another very intelligent and skilled young actress,
Ashley Judd. Forays into action and horror,
such as Mimic (1997) and
The Replacement Killers (1998)
show that Sorvino is not above being playful in the film roles she
chooses.
However, what forever cemented her role in popular culture was her
performance as charmingly silly California beach girl Romy White in
Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997),
in which she and co-star Lisa Kudrow utter
one hilarious absurdity after another.
Mira Sorvino married
Christopher Backus on June 11, 2004,
and the couple have four children.- Actress

As Disney's lively lass Katie O'Gill, she was the freshness of spring.
She could inspire you to dance a jig through a field of flowers. Her
entrancing green eyes and catchy spirit had that kind of life-affirming
effect. Cute, spunky, almond-eyed British actress Janet Munro was
deemed to be an actress from day one as the daughter of Scottish stage
and variety-hall comedian Alex Munro
(1911-1986) (born Alexander Horsburgh). Janet Neilson Horsburgh was
born in Blackpool (near Liverpool), Lancashire, England on September
28, 1934. Her entertainer father adopted the name Munro a few years
after she was born. His wife, Janet's mother Phyllis, died when Janet was
8 and she was raised by his second wife, Lilias.
Janet first trained as a teenager in repertory theatre in the Lancashire
area, and in the late 1950s she found popularity on British TV, even earning
the title of "Miss Television of 1958" from a fan magazine. She also dabbled
in films and had prominent roles in the breezy comedy
Small Hotel (1957), the drama
The Young and the Guilty (1959),
and the creepy sci-fi/horror
The Crawling Eye (1958)
[aka The Trollenberg Terror].
Adaptable to both comedy and drama, the little charmer caught the eye
of Walt Disney who saw big things for her,
and she was signed to a five-picture deal in 1959. She made four.
Appealing to a brand new generation of Britishers and Americans as the
scrappy, brunette-banged ingénue of several box-office family films,
she brightened up the screen with her performances in
Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959),
Third Man on the Mountain (1959),
and
Swiss Family Robinson (1960).
The Golden Globe winner for "most promising newcomer" eventually
outgrew Disney and tried to move ahead by altering her wholesome image
with some mature, spicier roles, but audiences didn't respond well to this
sudden departure. The idea of an adult Janet Munro playing overly-sexy
ladies and seriously downtrodden women did not take and her career
quickly faltered. Despite a BAFTA nomination for her role in
Walk in the Shadow (1962), she began to
see life unraveling both personally and professionally right before her eyes.
Janet's marriages to actors
Tony Wright and
Ian Hendry fell by the wayside and
two miscarriages, plus chronic medical ills, only deepened her suffering.
Worse yet, she developed an acute alcohol problem. Semi-retired from
acting between 1964 and 1968 while married to Hendry in order to raise
her children, she found the going difficult when she tried to return
full-time.
Ironically, one of Janet's last screen roles showed her at her dramatic
best, a boozing pop star in the British film
Sebastian (1968). Four years later
Janet died under somewhat mysterious circumstances. Reports circulated
that she choked to death at a London hotel while drinking tea. The
immediate cause of her death was acute myocarditis; the underlying
cause was chronic ischemic heart disease. The sun set all too soon on
this lovely actress when she was only 38. She was survived by her daughters,
Sally and Corrie Hendry.- From appearing in one of Netflix's most successful global film franchises to date and bringing charming, heartfelt characters to life on television, actress Momona Tamada (she/her) has quickly become "one to watch" in the entertainment industry today.

Janeane, the petite woman with the acerbic wit, was born in Newton, New
Jersey, in 1964, to Joan, a secretary, and Carmine Garofalo, an Exxon
executive. She is of Italian and Irish descent. Janeane had many jobs
before breaking into show biz. She worked as a bike messenger, a shoe
saleswoman, waitress and temp
secretary. Watching David Letterman on
TV inspired her to write comedy, and by 1985 she was doing stand up
comedy. As such, Janeane has become a cult figure, giving a voice to a
generation, venting her frustration at T.V., romance, life
in general and anything that ticks her off in particular. Janeane did
sketches on
The Ben Stiller Show (1992)
(an Emmy-winning, but canceled show). She would continue to collaborate
with Ben Stiller in future projects. Janeane received 2 Emmy
nominations for her work on
The Larry Sanders Show (1992),
developing her signature character: a smart, cynical woman with a razor
wit. She was not happy with her
Saturday Night Live (1975)
stint in 1994, and was vocal about it (of course). Transferring her
persona from TV to the big screen, she moved on to movies, basically
playing the character she had defined for herself. In
Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997)
she portrayed a smart, cynical, successful businesswomen with a razor
wit, and this time with swear words (in the movie she had developed a
brand of cigarettes with fast-burning paper, for the gal on the go; in
real life it is alleged she smokes Marlboros). Janeane continues to
work in TV and movies, often collaborating with
Ben Stiller in a number of movies like
Mystery Men (1999), his easygoing
style being a counterpoint to her caustic nature.- This Kentucky native began her career in her home state and abroad in Europe, singing with The Kentucky Ambassadors of Music. Brigitte Bardot was born on September 28, 1934 in Paris, France. Her father had an engineering degree and worked with his father in the family business. Brigitte's mother encouraged her daughter to take up music and dance, and she proved to be very adept at it. By the time she was 15, Brigitte was trying a modeling career, and found herself in the French magazine "Elle". Her incredible beauty readily apparent, Brigitte next tried films. In 1952, she appeared on screen for the first time as Javotte Lemoine in Crazy for Love (1952). Two more films followed and it was also the same year she married Roger Vadim (the union lasted 3½ years). Capitalizing on her success in French films, Brigitte made her first American production in Act of Love (1953) with Kirk Douglas, but she continued to make films in France. Brigitte's explosive sexuality took the United States by storm, and the effect she had on millions of American men who had not seen a woman like her in a long, long time--if ever--was electric. Rise to the phrase "sex kitten" and fascination of her in the United States consisted of magazines photographs and dubbed over French films--good, bad or indifferent, her films drew audiences--mainly men--into theaters like lemmings. In 1965, she appeared as herself in the American-made Dear Brigitte (1965) with James Stewart (she only appeared in one scene). Just before she turned 40, Brigitte retired from movies after filming The Edifying and Joyous Story of Colinot (1973). She prefers life outside of stardom. While it enabled her to become internationally famous, it also carried with it annoyances. It was not anything for her to have "fans" enter her house or wander around the grounds of her home in the hopes of getting a glimpse of her or to take something that belonged to her. Paparazzi constantly hounded her with their cameras. She has been so soft-hearted that some people even have taken advantage of her generosity. After her life in the spotlight, Brigitte went on to become a leading spokesperson for animal rights and started the "Foundation Brigitte Bardot" dedicated solely to that cause. Her work in that realm is, perhaps, far greater than any film she could have made. Brigitte has been married to Bernard d'Ormale since 1992 and they reside in St. Tropez with their nearly 50 pets.- Actress

A man of all mediums, this veteran, Manhattan-born character actor was
named after his great-grandfather, Lincolnesque Congressman William
Windom. Born in 1923, the son of Paul Windom, an architect, and the
former Isobel Wells Peckham, Bill attended Williams College and the
University of Kentucky, among others, before serving in the Army during
WWII. After the war, he studied at both Fordham and Columbia
universities in New York City before settling on an acting career.
Trained at the American Repertory Theatre (1946-1961), he made his
minor Broadway debut with the company in November of 1946 with
revolving productions of "Henry VIII", "What Every Woman Knows", "John
Gabriel Borkman" and "Androcles and the Lion". The following year, he
continued building up his Broadway resume with roles in "Yellow Jack"
and as the "White Rabbit" in a production of "Alice in Wonderland".
In the early 1950s, a new avenue opened up to Bill: television. For the
duration of the decade, he shifted between stage, which included
Broadway roles in "A Girl Can Tell" (1953), "Mademoiselle Colombe"
(1954), "Fallen Angels" (1956), "The Greatest Man Alive" (1957) and
"Viva Madison Avenue!" (1960), and TV drama, with stalwart work in such
programs as
Robert Montgomery Presents (1950)
and
Hallmark Hall of Fame (1951).
Major attention came Windom's way on TV moving into the following
decade. In addition to hundreds of guest appearances on the most
popular shows of the day
(Combat! (1962),
The Fugitive (1963),
All in the Family (1971),
Dallas (1978),
Highway to Heaven (1984)),
his standout work included a co-starring role opposite the luminous
Inger Stevens in the popular light comedy
series
The Farmer's Daughter (1963).
On the show, Windom portrayed widower "Glen Morley", a decent
congressman who eventually falls in love with his pert and pretty
Swedish governess "Katy Holstrum" (played by Stevens). Prior to this
success, both he and Ms. Stevens had been singularly recognized for
their sterling performances on various episodes of
The Twilight Zone (1959).
Following this success, Windom enjoyed critical notice as the
cartoonist/protagonist whose vivid imagination causes problems on the
homefront on the Thurberesque weekly series
My World and Welcome to It (1969).
Despite the show's critical merit and Windom's "Best Actor" Emmy win,
the show, years ahead of its time, lasted only one season. Decades
later, Windom would play
James Thurber on stage in one-man
shows.
The native New Yorker went on to essay a number of loungy Southerners
and down-home types with incredible ease--both heroes and villains. He
offered strong support in his film debut as
Gregory Peck's opposing counsel in the
Alabama-based
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962),
and went on to play prelate
Norman Vincent Peale's father in
One Man's Way (1964) starring
Don Murray. Windom demonstrated the
maturity to carry off the character even though he was only 5 years
older than Murray. He also delivered a variety of pungent roles in such
films as The Detective (1968) (as a
closeted gay married man),
Robert Altman's
Brewster McCloud (1970) (as a
political blowhard facing a series of murders) and
The Man (1972) (as a racist
politician).
Growing slier and stockier over the years, Windom provided TV audiences
with a colorful gallery of characters, ranging from avuncular and
ingratiating, to cantankerous and unscrupulous. He became a regular for
over a decade on the Angela Lansbury
whodunit series
Murder, She Wrote (1984),
joining the show in its second season as "Dr. Seth Hazlitt". He briefly
left "Murder" to work on another series,
Parenthood (1990), which was based
on the highly popular 1989 movie starring
Steve Martin. Here,
Ed Begley Jr. took over the Martin part
and Windom assumed Jason Robards's
patriarchal role as Begley's father. The show was off the air within a
few months, however, and Windom was invited back to the mystery series
-- a semi-regular until the show folded in 1997.
In addition, Windom reprised a
Star Trek (1966) portrayal as
"Commodore Matt Decker," appeared in scores of mini-movies, has given
voice to various book readings, presented a second one-man show (this
time that of combat reporter Ernie Pyle), and
continued to film at age 80+, his latest being
Yesterday's Dreams (2005).
The five-times-married Windom was wed (for 36 years) to writer Patricia
Veronica Tunder at the time of his death of congestive heart failure at
age 88. A chess, tennis and sailing enthusiast, he is survived by four
children: Rachel, Heather Juliet, Hope and Rebel Russell. Two step-daughters, Debora and Maggie as well as
four grandchildren. He died at his home in Woodacre, California, on

Marcello Mastroianni was born in Fontana Liri, Italy in 1924, but soon his family moved to Turin and then Rome. During WW2 he
was sent to a German prison camp, but he managed to escape and hide in
Venice. He debuted in films as an extra in
Marionette (1939), then started
working for the Italian department of "Eagle Lion Films" in Rome and
joined a drama club, where he was discovered by director
Luchino Visconti. In 1957 Visconti gave
him the starring part in his
Fyodor Dostoevsky adaptation
White Nights (1957) and in
1958 he was fine as a little thief in
Mario Monicelli's comedy
Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958). But his
real breakthrough came in 1960, when
Federico Fellini cast him as an
attractive, weary-eyed journalist of the Rome jet-set in
La Dolce Vita (1960); that film was
the genesis of his "Latin lover" persona, which Mastroianni himself
often denied by accepting parts of passive and sensitive men. He would
again work with Fellini in several major films, like the exquisite
8½ (1963) (as a movie director who finds
himself at a point of crisis) and the touching
Ginger & Fred (1986) (as an old
entertainer who appears in a TV show). He also appeared as a tired
novelist with marital problems in
Michelangelo Antonioni's
La Notte (1961), as an impotent young
man in Mauro Bolognini's
Bell' Antonio (1960) , as an
exiled prince in John Boorman's
Leo the Last (1970), as a traitor in
Paolo and Vittorio Taviani's
Allonsanfan (1974) and as a sensitive
homosexual in love with a housewife in
Ettore Scola's
A Special Day (1977).
He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor three times, for
Divorce Italian Style (1961),
A Special Day (1977),
and Oci ciornie (1987). During the
last decade of his life he worked with directors, like
Theodoros Angelopoulos,
Bertrand Blier and
Raúl Ruiz, who gave him three excellent
parts in
Three Lives and Only One Death (1996).

Despite being one of the finest actors of his generation, Peter Finch
will be remembered as much for his reputation as a hard-drinking,
hell-raising womanizer as for his performances on the screen. He was
born in London in 1916 and went to live in Sydney, Australia, at the
age of ten. There, he worked in a series of dead-end jobs before taking
up acting, his film debut being in the mediocre comedy
The Farmer Goes to Town (1938).
He made his stage debut as a comedian's stooge in 1939.
Laurence Olivier spotted him and
persuaded him to return to Britain to perform classic roles on the
stage. Finch then had an affair with Olivier's wife,
Vivien Leigh. Despite being married three
times, Finch also had highly-publicized affairs with actresses
Kay Kendall and
Mai Zetterling. Finch soon switched to
film after suffering appalling stage fright. As a screen actor, he won
five BAFTA awards and his talent was beyond doubt. His two finest
roles, the only two for which he received Oscar nominations, were as
the homosexual Jewish doctor in
Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971)
and as the "mad prophet of the air-waves" in
Network (1976). He died a couple of
months before being awarded the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor
in a Leading Role in Network (1976) and
was the first actor to have won the award posthumously.- Actor

A prolific character actor on British television for three decades, Ronald Lacey was born on June 18, 1935 in the suburbs of London. He
began his career in 1961 after compulsory National Service. He
attended The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His first
notable performance was delivered on stage in 1962 at The Royal Court Theatre in "Chips
With Everything". Lacey had an unusual pug look with beady eyes and
cherub's cheeks which landed him repeatedly in bizarre roles on both
stage and screen. However it was his unforgettable demonic smile and
peculiar Peter Lorre mannerisms that would bring Lacey a short period of
fame in Hollywood.
After performing on British television throughout
the 1960's and 1970's, Lacey finally landed the role for which these
characteristics could be used to full advantage. In 1981 he was cast as
the villainous Nazi henchman in 'Steven Spielberg' 's widescreen
blockbuster Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) He followed this with a series of various
villainous roles for the next five to six years: Firefox (1982) with 'Clint
Eastwood', Sahara (1983) with Brooke Shields, and Red Sonja (1985) with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Lacey turned
in two hilarious cinematic performances in full drag (Disney's Trenchcoat (1983)
with Margot Kidder from 1982 and Invitation to the Wedding (1983) from 1985 - in which he played a
husband/wife couple!).
Lacey died in London of liver failure on May 15, 1991. A
tremendous talent with great depth and many facets, Ronald Lacey will
probably be remembered best for his small but significant role as the dapper yet
psychotic Nazi in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).- Actress

A bright child, John Sayles began reading novels before age 9. A
Williams College grad in 1972, he shunned a corporate career to work various
blue-collar jobs, moving to east Boston to take a factory job. He wrote
stories and submitted them to various magazines, and the Atlantic
Monthly gave him the idea of publishing them in a novel--thus "Pride of
the Bimbos" (1975) was born.
In the late 1970s he worked for renowned low-budget producer
Roger Corman as a screenwriter. He saved
much of the money he earned from that job, got some friends together
and made
Return of the Secaucus Seven (1980)
in 25 days. Altough it was a hit, he had trouble obtaining financing
for the films he wanted to make because he would not give up his right
of final cut. Baby It's You (1983)
was Sayles' only film made under studio control.
In 1983 the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship granted him a tax-free
income of $32,000 a year for 5 years. That stipend and money he earned
for writing such films as
The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986),
Enormous Changes at the Last Minute (1983)
and Breaking In (1989) enabled him to
make the kinds of films he wanted to make.
Lone Star (1996) placed Sayles in the
ranks of top American filmmakers. In it and his other films, a broadly
appealing social consciousness emerges, showing Sayles to be concerned
with what's going on with regional cultures, national values and what
living in the US is like today.
Sayles and
Maggie Renzi, whom he met during college,
have lived together since the 1970s, splitting their time between a
Hoboken, NJ, house and a farm in upstate New York. They have no plans
to marry.- Actress

She was previously married to Paul Doucette.- A tall, imposing character actor with a penetrating stare, Marshall
Bell has provided excellent support in a variety of roles and genres.
He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on September 28, 1942, and had been
working as a consultant, teaching senior executives how to improve
their speaking skills, prior to starting an acting career relatively
late in life. His connection was his wife, the veteran costume designer
Milena Canonero, herself a winner of three Academy Awards and nominee
for five more. He made his motion picture debut in the drama Birdy (1984),
which was seen by enough people to effectively jump-start his career.
One of his next few roles was one of his most infamous: the creepy
Coach Schneider of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985). But the role that really got him noticed was as resistance
leader George / Kuato in Total Recall (1990) (the role re-united him with
Arnold Schwarzenegger, as he'd played a hit man in the comedy Twins (1988)).
Other substantial film roles include a frightening homeless man
terrorizing Bill Paxton in the movie The Vagrant (1992), Gordies'
emotionally distant father in Stand by Me (1986), and General Owen in the
movie Starship Troopers (1997), re-uniting him with "Total Recall" director
Paul Verhoeven. He's done many TV series, including Good vs Evil (1999),
Wiseguy (1987), The X-Files (1993), Tales from the Crypt (1989), Hill Street Blues (1981),
House (2004), and Deadwood (2004). He's also appeared in commercials and done
voice-over work.
A solid, reliable actor with an authoritative presence, Bell is a
natural for playing "tough guy" roles, although movies like Airheads (1994)
show him to be able to play comedy equally well. He continues to add
many credits to his resume, including the critically acclaimed
Capote (2005), the prisoner of war drama Rescue Dawn (2006), and the family film
Nancy Drew (2007). - Leilani Sarelle was born on 28 September 1966 in Los Angeles County, California, USA. She is an actress, known for Days of Thunder (1990), Basic Instinct (1992) and Neon Maniacs (1986). She was previously married to Miguel Ferrer.
