- Born Alfred Cini in 1927 Philadelphia the young Al seemed certain from an early age the direction his life would take. His idols in his younger years were the ever popular Perry Como and Al Jolson both of whom commanded a worldwide following; but his biggest incentive came when family friend Mario Lanza encouraged the young Al to join the music industry and perform. Al was soon to get his big break when in 1952 he was offered the opportunity to record 'Here In My Heart' which coincidentally was also going to be recorded by Mario Lanza until Al asked him, as a friend, not to cover the song. - Vincent Eugene Craddock, known as Gene Vincent, was an American musician who pioneered the styles of rock and roll and rockabilly. His 1956 top ten hit with his Blue Caps, "Be-Bop-A-Lula", featured here, is considered a significant early example of rockabilly. He is a member of the Rock and Roll and Rockabilly Halls of Fame. In 1956 he wrote ""Be-Bop-A-Lula"", No. 102 on Rolling Stone magazine's ""500 Greatest Rock and Roll Songs of All Time"" list. ""Be-Bop-A-Lula"" was not on Vincent's first album and was picked by Capitol producer Ken Nelson as the B side of his first single. By the time Capitol released the single, ""Be-Bop-A-Lula"" had already gained attention from the public and radio DJs. The song was picked up and played by other U.S. radio stations (obscuring the original ""A-side"" song), and became a hit and launched Vincent as a rock 'n' roll star.

Quiet please, there's a lady on stage Judy Garland (Frances Ethel Gumm) was born June 10th, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. At the age of two she was performing with her elder sisters as The Gumm Sisters on the stage of her father's movie theatre. Touring the Vaudeville circuit in the 1930s they changed their name to the Garland Sisters and Frances changed her name to Judy (influenced by the Hoagy Carmichael song). At the age of 13 she signed a contract with MGM and was eventually paired with Mickey Rooney in the 1937 feature, Thoroughbreds Don't Cry, which was so successful they were cast in Love Finds Andy Hardy. They eventually appeared together in nine movies. She achieved an Academy Award for her performance in The Wizard of Oz and became one of MGMs biggest stars.
- Born on 23rd September 1943 in Madrid to eminent physician Julio Snr and wife Maria. It could be claimed that Julio Jnr had the best start in life; he had the best of schooling and studied law as a means to following his ambition to becoming a career diplomat. But he was also a superb athlete with a natural flair for football, and as time would tell it was the call of the stadium rather than the political arena that finally won the day. Such was his footballing potential he was eventually signed up by Real Madrid as a goalkeeper; this ambition realized he believed his future was secure until fate dealt him a cruel blow when he was involved in a car accident and partially paralyzed, leaving him with a two year battle to learn to walk again.

- As a boy from Brooklyn Neil had the type of upbringing that was always going to take him into music although his mother would have preferred 'classical' rather than 'popular'. Although continuing his classical interest, at 17 Neil formed a group called 'The Tokens' and caught the attention of record producer Morty Craft, which lead to the group recording a few singles with minor success. In 1957 at the age of 18, he decided to split from the group to promote himself as a solo artist and recorded 'Snowtime' for Decca.

- On 12 October 1935 in Modena, Italy Luciano Pavarotti, a legend in the making,was born.The son of a baker and amateur tenor, singing was clearly in his blood, but it was football that first brought him into the limelight when he showed considerable talent playing for his local club. But soccer was to be a lasting passion rather than a direction in life, and a passion he still follows with undimmed enthusiasm. His baptism into the world of music came about when performing with his father in the Modena Chorus, winning first prize in an international competition. This produced a spark bright enough to ignite a flame in his heart that was, and still is, filling every auditorium in which he appears.

But his affair with hair was cut short and in his late teens his talent for singing surfaced when he was offered a spot in the Freddie Carlone Orchestra, touring the Midwest states. His ultimate goal now realised Perry went on to sell over 100million records worldwide over six decades, with hits such as 'Hey Good Looking' and 'Papa Loves Mambo' both performed here in front of the cameras and presented on this fabulous DVD compilation.

- This DVD shows the inimitable Roger Whittaker in a live 80s performance singing a selection of the songs that helped to catapult him to a position of world prominence. Born in Nairobi, Kenya from English parents Roger Whittaker has entertained the world with his velvet smooth voice since he took his first steps into the limelight in 1962 despite gaining a B.S. in zoology, biochemistry and marine biology. His break came with a demo tape he had made whilst at Bangor University which attracted the attention of a major music publisher. Realising the potential of Whittaker's voice he arranged for him to cut his first single, quickly followed by a second, which happily, attracted the attention of several radio stations with the consequence that 'Steel Men' became his first hit in the British charts. Roger was on his way.
