- Jussi, a student admired by all women, is inadvertently selected to represent both left-wing and right-wing parties in the parliamentary elections. All Jussi cares about is the beautiful, blonde Irmeli.
- Uuno Turhapuro has been elected the President and has some unorthodox plans for the country.
- Tarmo, the young nephew of Uncle-Scrooge-like Consul Ö is after his uncle's fortunes. After investing in Tarmo's unfinished studies, the uncle is furious and threatens to leave Tarmo penniless unless he is able to raise one million marks in one month. If not, he'll donate everything to an antiquarian society. Helped by some magic pills given by his friend, Tarmo spends the month in and out of various money schemes. Among other things he tries making avant-garde films to please the awards jury, and spends holidays in Spain on behalf of his clients who are too busy to take time off themselves. A band of crooks in pinstripe suits watch Tarmo's every move, trying to eliminate him after hearing about his uncle's fortune.
- Uuno Turhapuro's father-in-law unwittingly gives all his money to Uuno, who goes on a spending spree with his younger brother Peni.
- Losing faith in their original idea for a movie to celebrate Finland's 50 years of independence, a film crew decides to hire a typical Finnish taxpayer to tell them what to shoot. The result becomes a comedic cavalcade of Finnish promotional clichés - Lapland, sauna, moose hunting, beautiful blond women etc. - as presented by a slick entourage following on the heels of William Nurmi, a Finnish-American hair tonic millionaire on a visit to his ancestors' homeland. Add some half-baked criminal hanky-panky, and towards the end even one of the main characters has to confess to the camera that he's lost track of this movie's plot about fifteen minutes ago.
- Two toy manufacturers fight over market shares. One of them is Jim King whose accountant gives him some precarious ideas on how to avoid paying taxes. King is also after his rival's daughter - and her money. An array of gadgets almost steals the show: miniature submarines and helicopters, egg guns and boomerangs. The last 14 minutes are shot in colour, as seen by a gangster waking up to his first sober morning in years.
- Jalmar "Jalli" Riivatsalo works in an ad agency and tries to find success both in love and business.
- Two sister ballerinas dance through the villages and forests of the Sámi land in this whimsical and disarming commentary on indigenous sovereignty and land ownership (The Sámi are the only indigenous people within the European Union area).
