- Uuno is called to serve the rest of his military service. His father-in-law, Director Tuura has been appointed as a defence minister but he hasn't got any interest to free Uuno from his service. Tuura orders Uuno to army immediately to get a rest from him for a while. In the army Uuno makes the officers go mad and soon he is been transferred as a horseman.
- Juuso, Late, and Pyry return from military service to their small village in the Finnish countryside. Finding work is difficult there, so Juuso decides to take a job on a Norwegian oil-drilling platform. Late could start working on his family's chicken farm, but he wants to break free from his father, who has a new wife. Looking for work in Gothenburg, Sweden, he only runs into more problems and is deported back to Finland. Pyry would like to take over his late father's farm, but family quarrels over the estate make him quit his agricultural studies, and he and drifter Late take jobs in a steel mill in southern Finland.
- Wanting to know the ways of people, a pelican turns into a gawky young man who soon learns to speak, thanks to his outstanding talent in imitation. He befriends Emil and Elsa, two children who--unlike adults--see that their new neighbor "Mr Berd" is not human but a big bird wearing a suit. The Pelican Man lands a job at the opera and falls in love with a pretty ballerina, looking so much like a bird herself. Troubles start when adults too find out about "Mr Berd's" ornithological origin.
- Losing faith in their original idea for a movie to celebrate Finland's 50 years of independence, a film crew decides to hire a typical Finnish taxpayer to tell them what to shoot. The result becomes a comedic cavalcade of Finnish promotional clichés - Lapland, sauna, moose hunting, beautiful blond women etc. - as presented by a slick entourage following on the heels of William Nurmi, a Finnish-American hair tonic millionaire on a visit to his ancestors' homeland. Add some half-baked criminal hanky-panky, and towards the end even one of the main characters has to confess to the camera that he's lost track of this movie's plot about fifteen minutes ago.
