- Half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott trade between kinship and rivalry both on the basketball court and in the hearts of their friends in the small, but not so quiet town of Tree Hill, North Carolina.
- After outrunning a typhoon at sea, a strong-willed tugboat navigator and her crew discover a high-tech alien life form that's taken control of a Russian research vessel and aims to destroy on a massive scale.
- The year is 2008. After five years, the gang returns to Capeside for a reunion and wedding after taking different paths in life. Joey is a successful book editor living in New York with her current boyfriend Chris. Dawson lives in Hollywood and is a successful executive producer of his autobiographical TV series, 'The Creek.' He is still single, but has not forgotten the love of his life. Pacey is now the manager to the re-opened restaurant, The Ice House, but still continues his brash lifestyle of dating older women. Jack is now a teacher at Capeside High and dating Pacey's brother Doug, now the sheriff, who is still closeted. Jen lives in New York with Grams and runs an art gallery in SoHo, and is now the mother of a baby girl, while Audrey has gone off to Europe on tour with a band. They all (sans Audrey) meet at Pacey's restaurant, and after a little too much wine they all start bringing back ghosts from the past. They all get dressed and ready for Gail's wedding, and between old memories and new bruises (from Pacey, who was beaten up by some married woman's husband), Joey tries to balance having the two men that changed her life around her. Suddenly, Jen faints and is taken to hospital, where Grams reveals that she suffers from a lethal heart condition. Jen is dying...
- Joey aces Professor Hetson's final exam and ends the semester with a C+, and Joey is finally relived that her ordeal with Hetson is over. However, she decides she wants him as her advisor after she chooses English as her major. Eddie proposes they go backpacking through Europe before going their separate ways to college. Reluctant at first to jump so suddenly on such an intense trip, Joey decides to go, only to find a goodbye note from Eddie, this time for good saying that she deserves someone better than him. Elsewhere, David finally breaks up with Jack, who ponders if he was only with David to prove to himself that he could hold a steady relationship. Meanwhile, Pacey continues dating Sadia and selling stocks. But things change drastically, first when Sadia leaves him by returning to her fiancée. Then the biotech stocks that he and Dawson were investing in go bankrupt. Pacey then asks Rinaldi to borrow some money, but the cold-hearted Rinaldi refuses. Frustrated and angry, Pacey finally snaps and punches Rinaldi in the face, who instantly fires Pacey.
- Oliver arranges a screening for their movie, which one of the guests turns out to be Amy Lloyd, movie critic for Boston Weekly, whom Oliver secretly invited for the screening and has a quarrel with Dawson. Meanwhile, Joey goes to Jen for advice on her feelings for Charlie, while Jen deals with Clifton Smalls, the new African-American boyfriend of Grams. Audrey tests Pacey's love for her by teasing him about the number of men she has had sex with. Also, Oliver decides to ask Jen out. She turns him down, but he plays her into being curious about him.
- In Los Angeles, Dawson visits Audrey at the rehab clinic where he spots a big time film producer, named Toni Stark, and follows her into a therapy session hoping to talk to the woman who'll direct Dawson to better contacts. Meanwhile, Pacey throws a party at his place to celebrate his new success at his job as well as purchasing a new super-sized TV set and is surprised when Joey, still sulking over the departure of Eddie, lets loose by getting drunk and setting up a spontaneous game of spin the bottle. Jen catches the reformed alcoholic C.J. with a drink which leads to them arguing, and making up by having sex for the first time. Also, Emma tries to stay in the country to get her green card by courting a stoner to marry her until Jack offers to marry Emma. But in the end, Emma decides that it's not worth it and decides to leave.
- In a cross-over continuation of the previous episode, set in real time during a cold winter night of a sudden snowstorm, Joey is robbed at gunpoint and forced to clean out her ATM account by a street mugger at a deserted area of Boston's Downtown Crossing district. But the robber ends up getting run over by a car in a hit-and-run accident, minutes after mugging Joey. Instead of calling the police, she stands by her aggressor, checking up on him and trying to get an ambulance to get him to the hospital after seeing the similarities between him and her own father, especially when Joey meets the guy's estranged wife Grace, and her young, tomboy daughter Sammy in the hospital waiting area.
- 1998–200343mTV-146.8 (225)TV EpisodeA big movie star, named Max Winter, arrives on the set to act with Natasha, and the flirting between them upsets Dawson. Pacey takes Emma to an office party where she finds out that Pacey is using her to win a contest among the office employees to see who brought the hottest date. Meanwhile, Joey has an upcoming Hetson final and Eddie offers his place for her to study. In the morning, they talk and end up having sex, which causes Joey to be late and she ends up missing the exam. Professor Hetson refuses to let Joey take a make up test and outright gives her an 'F'. Later that evening, Hetson comes to the bar and immediately starts an argument with Eddie where, in a very cruel tone, he tells Eddie how much he despises a loser like him taking up Joey's time. The hot-tempered Eddie falls right into the trap by punching Hetson in the face, and he gets instantly fired from Hell's Kitchen for it. Admired by Eddie's actions and stand against the mean Professor Heston, Joey then tries to cheer Eddie up and admire him for his noble act by taking to a local ice skating rink where they declare their love for each other.
- After going to see a scary movie and feeling completely unsatisfied, Joey, Jack, and Pacey arrive at Grams' house and decide to tell some scary stories of their own. First off, Joey tells how she had a creepy encounter while studying alone at the library on Halloween night. She could have gone to a party with Audrey, who reminded her that a young female student was attacked there not too long ago. Next, Jack tells of how he was spooked while sorting through items in the frat house basement. Third, Pacey's story involves an unsettling run-in he and Karen had while driving on a quiet road one night. It seems a mysterious driver wouldn't be satisfied until he ran them off the road for good. Finally, Grams comes in and caps the night with what she promises to be the scariest story of them all. It involves Jen, the radio station, and someone (or is it something) that gives her a scare.
- Dawson begins directing Oliver's movie with Oliver playing the lead where Dawson has to deal with Audrey (who took the leading female part) as well as her complaints about Oliver's kissing skills. When Dawson discovers that Oliver has no talent in acting, he must recast the male lead role within the day and Jen comes up with the most unlikely candidate: Charlie. During the filming, Audrey has a crisis and locks herself in the bathroom because she kissed Pacey and felt like she was betraying Joey. Meanwhile, Joey feels conflicted over where to go on with her situation with Professor Wilder, but is called away from him at his out to help out with Oliver and Dawson's film to help Audrey get back on the set so they can finally finish the shooting. Also, Jack is fed up with his frat brothers after the homophobic Eric accuses Jack of making a pass at him in which Jack moves out of the frat house.
- Dawson goes to Boston to see a shrink for his anxiety attacks. Instead of calling Joey right away, he decides to go party with Jack and his fraternity friends. Jen decides to get back at Charlie for cheating on her by teaming up with the other girl, Nora, to get revenge. Meanwhile, Audrey's overbearing mother, Kay, arrives from Califoria for a visit, and all she does is drive Audrey insane by judging her and making her feel bad. Joey sees herself caught up in the middle of the mother-daughter argument and makes an intervention in order to save her roommate. Also, Pacey discovers that the woman Danny has been cheating on is Karen when he recognizes a necklace she wears which was in Danny's possession.
- Dawson's therapist advises him to go to New Hampshire (where his documentary film of Arthur Brooks is being honored) and take a friend with him since he's been feeling so estranged from them. He takes Jen (who gets heartbroken after finding out that Charlie is trying to reconcile with his other girlfriend, Nora, and not her) and they pretend to be a couple, getting a very romantic honeymoon suite. Meanwhile, Jack brings Joey and Audrey to a frat party and Joey finds out they're only there for the fraternity brothers to score with them. Also, Pacey takes Karen on a non-romantic date and they accidentally sleep together, in which she reacts confused, quits her job, and hits the road.
- Professor Wilder ends whatever romance he had with Joey, and refuses to listen to an explanation of why she stood him up the night before by saying it was for the best. Joey is shocked, but not as much as when she spots him at the movies with another woman during an outing with Dawson. Meanwhile, Jen has to interview a band for her radio show, but things aren't as easy as she hoped when she has to fight flirtation at all costs with one of the members of the band, while Audrey does the same with another member. After Audrey refuses to give her growing relationship with Pacey another chance, he goes out with Jack to a gay bar where Jack shows Pacey an inside look at what it feels like being a woman.
- 1998–200343mTV-147.9 (277)TV EpisodeAs Dawson abandons his lifelong dream of becoming a filmmaker and works to pay off his huge credit card debt, Joey decides that Dawson must realize his dream, and rallies everyone she knows to help him begin production on his movie, which is the autobiography of his life. Joey forcibly recruits Harley and Patrick to play the roles of Joey and Pacey, and George volunteers to play Dawson, while Audrey volunteers for the role of Miss Jacobs. Gail even calls Todd Carr to assist with the production and Doug Witter for security, whom is now the acting sheriff since Mr. Witter is too sick to work anymore. Meanwhile, Pacey is newly inspired to raise the funds that are needed by going to various local businesses to raise money and at one meets a crush from his past, Christy Livingston. As filming wraps, Jen, Jack and Grams say goodbye to everyone as they leave for New York City where Jen and Jack transfer to NYU. Joey acts an a mentor to get Dawson and Pacey to make up while she finally achieves her life-long dream of going to Paris.
- On Halloween night, Todd throws a costume rave on the sound stage where Dawson thinks he sees the ghost of a famous Hollywood actress whom was murdered, while he also sees Todd and Natasha becoming more friendly. Jen is encouraged by Jack to call C.J., but she thinks he's gay after he shows up at the rave with another guy. Jack has a talk with C.J. and finds out the guy he's with, David, is gay, but not him. But C.J. also confides in Jack that he's not interested in Jen either. Meanwhile, Joey is stuck babysitting for Professor Hetson's annoying and headstrong 15-year-old daughter, Harley. Eddie helps her by taking them to a haunted house, where he and Joey kiss. Also, Audrey breaks up with Pacey at the costume rave after she overhears him talking to Emma that he doesn't love Audrey anymore.
- Dawson asks Pacey to help him invest for his first independent film and then returns to Capeside to write his next script. But Gail asks Dawson what will he do in case his plans of becoming a successful director fall through. Meanwhile, Pacey escorts Joey to Harley's school dance where they have a perfect time despite Harley's date, Patrick, picking a fight with another guy. There, Joey tells Pacey she can't have anything to do with him because Eddie is back from California during a break before he starts college in the fall. Also, Grams tells Jen she has been diagnosed with having breast cancer, and Jen sees her entire world fall apart with the possibility of Grams's death.
- Dawson goes back to Capeside to celebrate Christmas and brings Natasha and Todd with him where Dawson can't get past the fact that he saw Natasha and Max together, and Todd's drunkenness bothers Gail. Joey also arrives back in Capeside with Audrey, where Eddie later arrives with a Christmas tree to celebrate. There Eddie meets and has an argument with Joey's father, Mike Potter, who worries that Eddie might not be good for Joey since he's now unemployed and doesn't go to college. Pacey also comes back to spend time with his brother Doug who does not like the expensive gifts and constant, lavish spending Pacey is doing after making a lot of money at his stock trading job. The gang, as well as Jen and Grams, gather to have Christmas dinner at the Leery household which goes disastrously wrong where a drunken Todd makes an embarrassing thanks, but not as embarrassing as Audrey's, whose drinking problem has gone so out of control that she lashes out on everyone, and wrecks Pacey's new car.
- Joey agrees to be Pacey's temporary secretary over his recent promotion. But they both have second thoughts when their mutual jealousy leads to disaster in the office over a reporter, named Sadia, the same woman whom met Pacey at the office party (in the 'All the Right Moves' episode), as well as Joey not getting along at all with the pig-headed and callous Rich Rinaldi. Meanwhile in Los Angeles, Dawson sells his idea for a coming-of-age movie, but when the studio heads Heather Tracy and Larry Newman want to change the movie into a teen sex film, Dawson must decide if he should take the lucrative deal or stick with his original concept. Also, an open-minded Grams is the intermediary that brings Jen and C.J. back together.
- Dawson accepts the job of directing the slightly annoying Oliver's film; Joey's night takes an unexpected turn when she finds herself kissing Professor Wilder.
- Summer is upon the gang and so they move on with their lives to follow their own plans. Joey, back at Capeside, returns to her job as a waitress at the Yacht Club; Pacey gets a new job there as a security guard and runs into Danny Brecher whom has left his wife; Dawson and Audrey are on their way to L.A.; and Jack and Jen to Costa Rica. But a few things change everybody's plans when their flights are delayed. Bessie tells Joey they got an answer from the scholarship Joey thought of applying in France (which Bessie secretly sent in without Joey's knowledge). Also Grams decides to go to Las Vegas with Clifton. Jack meets Eric at the airport, who was just coming back from his hometown where he tried coming out to his parents. Jen tells Jack to go help Eric, as she'll go help herself by going to meet her parents.
- Jen helps Dawson go back to the psychiatrist, Dr. Rachel Weir, whom he ran away from. Dawson still thinks that the whole idea of sharing his thoughts with a complete stranger is weird, but he is surprised with how much he learns from it. Back home in Capeside, Dawson has to handle the problem with his father's will, which does not include baby Lily. Meanwhile, Joey is working on a project with Professor Wilder about old love letters written by an obscure writer, and with a little help of Audrey's audition videotape for "The Real World: Ibiza," she manages to catch something not one of the fellow students caught. Also, Pacey confronts Karen about the risks she is taking for having an affair with Danny, but she refuses to listen to him. Later, Karen is hurt when Danny's wife shows up at a dinner party the restaurant holds, and he completely blows Karen off.
- Heather Tracy, Dawson's movie producer, arrives on the set and threats to shut down production on the film if the lead, Natasha, isn't replaced. The egotistical Todd doesn't do much to save her job and it's up to Dawson to keep the film from being canceled altogether. Back at Worthington University, Eddie has an argument with Professor Hetson over him criticizing Joey's presentation and he storms out of the class. Joey leaves after him, and then she discovers he's not a student after all. Meanwhile, Emma asks Audrey to be the new lead singer of her all-girl punk rock band, Hells Belles, which will perform at Hell's Kitchen. But Pacey continues working late hours and misses Audrey's debut performance. Also, Jack confronts Professor Freeman after he gives Jack's paper a C- which Jack thinks was the result of an argument the previous day.
- After spending their first romantic night together, Dawson and Joey decide not to discuss it, because every time something happened between them they always ruined it by over discussing it. Dawson even shows Joey the set that he's working on which resembles his own house in Capeside. Meanwhile, Pacey starts on his new job as a stock broker which was set up by Audrey's father and during Pacey's first day he deals with his ambitious, but oily and pig-headed boss Rich Rinaldi. At the same time, Jack finally gets himself and Pacey the dream apartment Pacey was chasing so hard to get, with a little deviousness against Emma. During a heated argument with Grams, Jen accidentally meets a very cute guy, named C.J., a fan of Jen's defunct radio show who invites her to a counseling center that he works at. Also, Joey is hired as a waitress as the local bar, Hell's Kitchen, to get some extra cash for herself.
- With Dawson still staying in Capeside, Joey tries to get his mind off his father in which they end up going to Professor Wilder's book party where Dawson has an emotional twist which makes him storm out of the party. Meanwhile, Jen sees Charlie with another girl and makes a scene out of it, but turns out it was his sister. Embarrassed, she decides to make up for it and bring him a fruit basket, and catches him kissing another girl. Tobey makes a surprise visit for Jack, who gives more attention to his fraternity brothers and he ends up breaking Tobey's heart. Also, Pacey still tries to establish a good working environment with Karen and learns that his boss, Danny, is cheating on his wife by meeting a mystery woman aboard his boat.
- Dan presents the Ravens opening show for the new basketball season, but after the choreographed cheerleaders the boys come rolling in with a public fight between Lucas and Nathan over Haley; then a major flashback... Brooke and Peyton audition would be-cheerleaders; the obvious winner is arrogant, slutty Rachel, who Brooke accidentally indicates when telling Lucas to date another girl. While Dans team plans his mayoral election campaign, Deb deliberately walks in dressed sluttier then a drunk whore. Captain Nathan puts Lucas on the bench for back-talk. Brooke wants to field Haley instead of Rachel. Coach grudgingly introduces Dan and smiling, to everyone's surprise, his late-hour mayoral opponent: Karen Roe! When Dan announces the team, Lucas calling Nathan 'just like' his dad starts their fight, and Brooke attacks Rachel. Coach is livid at the brothers- and makes Lucas co-captain. Rachel sits naked in Lucas's car, and Brooke chews both of them, to his surprise admitting she only wanted to be desired exclusively by proclaiming non-exclusiveness.
- It's party time in Tree Hill. A masquerade ball at Tric provides the perfect opportunity for Haley to win back Nathan's heart, and for Brooke to seduce Lucas. Punk-pop sensation "Fall Out Boy" performs amidst the costume madness, while Peyton tries to come to terms with the new mother in her life. Meanwhile, Dan gives Deb an ultimatum, but soon finds she's a much more worthy opponent than he thought.
- Lucas and Peyton take a road trip together to find Ellie. While out of town, Lucas reconnects with a friend from his past.

- After the prom, Anna sleeps over at Peyton's- Felix sneers she's getting a worse reputation then his, while Peyton has a hard time with lesbianism-innuendos, even though Brooke says that appeals to boys, but ends up making a stand at school. Brooke finds Nathan slept on Lucas's floor; when he goes home, Haley tells him she respects his sacrifice and wants him to go to Highflyers, but won't do the one thing he asks, stop seeing Chris, so he walks out again and warns Chris in ominous terms and grip. Brooke blames Felix for her broken windshield and rages at him; he finds out it was Mouth, who also tells Lucas, but pays anyway; in the end he convinces her of his love. Dan takes the reins back at the dealership and offers Keith to stay on. Karen orders Lucas to take the medical test, or no basketball anyway- Nathan confesses he told her. Chris gets a chance to make a tour, asks Haley along and kisses her again. After Deb confesses her infidelity with him to Karen, Jules gets a call from Keith he loves her, and reports it to Dan
- Lucas and Haley dig up, as each year, their previous predictions for the new school year; he decorated Brookes locker- they are arranged alphabetically, making the Scott brothers and Haley neighbors. Mouth pod-cast-interviews Ravens-star Nathan. Dan warns coach Durham he plans to have the school board remove him and Lucas he remembers his arson. Ellie tells Lucas the marijuana is for her cancer pain. When Haley asks coach for help with Nathan, he just gives her a detention slip for entering the boys locker room- Nathan is there to, but pays her no attention; next day, same place, they talk a bit. When dad Larry and Ellie wait for Peyton, she storms out blaming Lucas for 'trapping' her; left alone, dad makes her consider a shrink. Karen reminds Nathan how desperately he wanted Haley back. Dan tells the board the Ravens can be North Carolina state champions without Whitey, Karen praises his lessons on life for the boys- he stays on, but gives Mouth a scoop: he'll retire next year. When Dan nearly chokes Lucas, Peyton stops him and makes him tell he didn't start the fire but found Dan and dragged him out- Lucas now regrets that, Dan says a real man had left him and demands secrecy. Haley is happy to hear Nathan considers an annulment a lie, not when he proposes a divorce instead, hopeful again when he says the legal one year- waiting period gives them time to reconsider.

- Lucas reveals that he knows who tried to kill Dan in the dealership fire. Brooke, Peyton and Haley find themselves behind bars. Chris Keller convinces Nathan to be his wingman at a high-stakes poker game. The residents of Tree Hill finally choose a mayor.
- Deb's cool younger brother, race pilot Cooper 'Coop' Lee, visits his favorite nephew Nathan and invites him and Lucas to Lowe's Motor Speedway (now Charlotte Motor Speedway), where the boys and his kid brother Jarret get a crash course from competitor Ray Green's daughter Daytona 'Toni' in not crashing for a taste of the race. Dan informs college about Andy's improper relationship with Karen- he must choose and gives his notice. Mouth fakes being drunk so Brooke can 'drive him home'; Erica is a real client, and hits on with him, kissing. Dan finds Deb wasted in the garden. At the day of the (private) race, competitive athlete Nathan's pride is hurt, so he tries to break the track speed record but crashes with bad long injury; the doctors tell Deb her blood is too 'rich' in pills to donate; Toni thinks Nathan was suicidal. Coach tells Peyton Jenny is safe in a small Florida town.
- Keith is arrested as suspect for the arson attempt on his brother Dan, but to the mayors anger soon released for lack of proof. The kids are supposed to get counseling about choosing a college, but nearly all have their minds elsewhere. Nathan and Haley make up, but have chosen colleges 3000 miles apart. Brooke believes Rachel deliberately entered her for the New York fashion contest because it's the same day as the cheerleaders' high-day, the Classic. Ellie insists Peyton shouldn't doubt about going to college at all. Mouth has enough of Brookes bitching, so he goes to the game with Rachel. Because Nathan missed political science class now Dan teaches that course, coach benches him, just when the major East Coast talent scout is present; still he gives Lucas the winning tactical tip, which really impresses coach...
- Haley turned up at Nathans door, asking to be together again, but he is urgently called away to the fire in Dan's office- Deb asks her along. Peyton tells Lucas about Elisabeth who claims to be her -dead- mother but knows things; her dad now says her beloved ma was not her biological mother- she turns away from both. Three months later Brooke returns walking straight up to Lucas, who was however just waiting for Karen. Nathan finally can go to High Flyers, and Haley's declaration of 'never ceased' love doesn't get to him; but there he remains torn between his love for her and the shattered trust. Dan says in confession he will remember who drugged him and let him to die in his burning car dealership, and then...
- Although Nathan and Haley are already married, Tim insists on throwing Nathan a post-wedding bachelor party, while Brooke throws Haley a bachelorette party. Meanwhile, Lucas tries to decide whether he should visit Dan in the hospital. Karen decides to go back to school and Nathan gets a job working for Keith at Dan's dealership.
- Niki turns up with a court decision in absentia awarding her custody of Jenny- Andy offers Jake legal help as fleeing is losing. Lucas goes to his ma now the truth is out but decides to stay with Dan as he considers himself the enemy's only weak spot. Keith feels betrayed by everyone; Dan can't resist gloriously admitting having set him up and is physically assaulted. Brooke dreads her impeding departure and realizes she may stay with a friend; Peyton is willing, but her parents refuse. Anna turns Felix in to the principal for writing dike on Peyton's locker, with disastrous results: he is dumped by Brooke, his parents send him to military school, and Anna even blames him for not knowing she's the lesbian. Nathan drives to where Haley tours, pours out his heart ready to do everything for their marriage, but only hears she wasn't ready and right now the show comes first, so he returns. Lucas makes Brookes year: Karen and he take her in. Keith leaves, anywhere and maybe forever.
- Brooke is high: she's about to be installed as school president and her dad should get another well-paid job. Nathan, still drinking, is livid after a call from Haley she'll be on TV, refuses to go to Keiths wedding, gets no sympathy from coach -who even rats out his fake ID in the liquor store- and drives Deb to abuse pain killers, as Lucas soon finds out. Andy thinks Karen can get Lucas back now his detective found Dan pays all expenses for some Emily Chambers. Chris makes it appear on national TV as if he and Haley are a couple. Best man Lucas takes Brooke, Jake and Peyton are late as they are too horny, Nathan turns up drunk and cursing outside the church. When Andy learns Jules is Emily, Karen asks and guesses what Dan pays her for- Jules runs off, only Dan triumphs. While Nathan burns his memories of Haley, Deb tells him to go get her back. Brookes dad got the job- but must move to California next week...
- Now Lucas is out of the coma and released home, where his ma tries to make him take it easy on doctors orders, Jake brings him a games console as a get-better-and-return gift from the Ravens and uses the opportunity to get a job in Karen's café. Nathan tells his ma he understands his parents' divorce is the only option by now, and turns all his attention to Haley, who makes him realize he's not a baby who must go where he's told but can legally choose; both parents seem confident and determined to win him over, but Dan convinces him Deb doesn't stand a chance because of her secret past. Lucas has decided to break up with Brooke -but didn't tell her- sneaks out to Peyton and collapses there; he is rushed to the emergency room, Brooke finds out and faces Peyton bitterly. Although Karen is determined to repay Keith Lucas' medical bills, since Keith 'can't repay' having endangered his life, he cashes in all his savings and plans a mortgage on his garage.
- After Lucas and Keith learn that Dan had a heart attack and is still in the hospital, they decide it is best for them to return to Tree Hill. When Deb learns about Haley and Nathan's marriage, she grows hostile. Meanwhile, angry that Lucas left Tree Hill without saying goodbye, Peyton and Brooke try to mend their friendship.
- Lucas and Nathan bear the brunt of Dan's abuse as he coaches them into the playoffs, pushing both of them to their breaking points. Haley is stunned after Dan threatens her, causing her to reconsider her relationship with Nathan. Meanwhile, Whitey learns that his medical condition may be more serious than he first expected, and Dan learns a shocking secret from Deb.
- After Deb's confession to have slept with Keith, Karen shows her the door and later has a misunderstanding which makes her break up with Andy. Haley chickens out on her music career at the last minute, so Chris leaves alone. When she gets home, her older sister Taylor is there. Nathan hopes she won't remember she was his first sex partner at a party in the beach house. They become friends and he decides she can stay a few weeks. Jake is back, without Jenny, for a few days he spends mainly with Peyton. Lucas finds out how Jules' poverty drove her to break Keith's heart. Felix has a fight with Lucas for 'hurting Anna' -who later confesses to Lucas she's just lesbian but hoped to be bi. Karen and Andy ultimately make up.
- Brooke plans her presidential campaign with Felix; her opponent is confident, never-defeated Erica Marsh, who lives for the job. Dan asks Lucas to move in with him while offering Keith to pay for a grand wedding with Jules. Nathan discovers lovers e-mail to Chris from Haley on their computer, believes her most are from Taylor and they decide the stirring sister must leave. Jake is back for good, moves in with Peyton and asks coach for a good word at school. Erika plays the campaign dirty, so Brooke decides to pull all the stops and asks Lucas to write her a killer speech- he suggest a J.F. Kennedy address. At the club Tric, Chris Keller is back, as artist opening act; he also dares Nathan about Haleys love, and once the main act 'the Wreckers' has asked him along on their tour invites Haley to join them- she tells Nathan she wants to, solely as a unique career opportunity, and is told to choose: the tour or him, and yet she goes. Karen fails to stop Lucas moving to Dan or at least find out why: he will pay for Lucas' medication, as he was not tested negative but showed her Keiths results.
- Lucas and Brooke's relationship becomes more intimate when they travel to New York for an overnight stay with Haley.
- The knowledge that Dan actually requested joint custody over Lucas but was turned away by Karen makes Keith doubt her and the Scott boys, who now train together as friends, how their lives would have been growing up as brothers. Peyton and Brooke lose Jake's baby daughter Jenny in the mall, and find Nikki picked her up. Haley is furious when she finds porn sites on Nathans computer, even though everybody else considers cyber-sex innocent fun, no competition for her. Since coach Whitey must have an operation, Dan manages -to his fury- to be made Ravens coach for one match, and works the boys like a penal company. Jake thinks he'll lose a custody battle against Nikki, so he considers moving to family in Savannah and gets Peytons support. Lucas comes to a decision which worries both Karen and Keith.
- Lucas and Peyton hide Jake and Jenny at Nathan's place while he chases Haley. Lucas finds Dan's secret hiding place for cash and a secret ledger; when he and Andy come to get it at night, all is gone. Anna's former lover Darby turns up; she ends up coming clean to her parents, who still love her, but returns to boarding school. Nathan accepts an invitation to spend the night at the bar where Taylor works; they drink heavily and participate in the bar dancing show. Niki claims Jenny isn't Jake's biologically. Brooke stays late at a party without permission, misses her shift in the café, and learns to pay her debts and her dues chore-wise. Jake won't hear reason from his lawyer and chooses jail over handing over Jenny to irresponsible Niki, even if that's his best chance to get her back in a few months.

Lucas seems to feel at home with Dan.
- Lucas, Nathan and Jake are auctioned off to the highest bidder in the annual "Boy Toy" charity auction and the night leads to surprising developments with old flames. Meanwhile, having missed out on the auction, Brooke ends up with Mouth and gives him the night of his life.
- Brooke, Peyton, Haley and Anna have a slumber party at Haley's apartment where secrets and lies are revealed. Meanwhile, when Lucas and Nathan go on a road trip to a Bobcats game, Nathan reveals he is being tested for the genetic defect that caused Dan's heart attack and suggests Lucas do the same. After an awkward encounter with Keith and Jules, Karen and Andy share an intimate night together.
- Coach tells the students of Tree Hill High to make a video recording for the traditional time capsule they expect to be open in 50 years. When Mouth tells it's sometimes opened early, Anna convinces him to help erase hers- they can't resist watching some other. Lucas moves in with Dan; Andy helps Karen to fight Dan in court, but she fails to remain rational. Nathan continues his self-destruction, believing Haley will never return, quits his job at Dans garage and gets Lucas and him arrested; they fight over Dan and Keith so Lucas tells his true motivation, and Dan understands when Nathan tells when he bails them out. Peyton and Jake go on their first date. Brook starts to really think about what she can do as president. When Jules tells Dan she'll tell Keith the truth, he says he may just keep off anyway. Jake and Peyton are becoming comfortable with intimacy.
