- Ravenal treats Magnolia very shabbily. He apparently cheats on her, as evidenced by his offscreen visits to the whorehouse. He doesn't slap her, but he does belittle her and her parents verbally.

- Captain Andy accidentally falls overboard and drowns during a violent storm.
