- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: You're Tommy's best friend, aren't you?
- Andy Doyle: Sure.
- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: I'll humiliate him. I'll make him feel as cheap as he made me feel. I'll get revenge.
- Andy Doyle: How?
- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: Oh, it's a marvelous idea. I'll marry you.
- Andy Doyle: Huh? No, no, no, no, no, no, I couldn't do that. You see, I promised my poor old mother that I wouldn't get married till I was sixty-five.
- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: Ohh, I could make ya happy.
- Andy Doyle: Oh, I don't doubt that, you see, but my family's against marriage.
- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: What?
- Andy Doyle: Oh sure, It's an old custom of ours. There hasn't been a marriage in my family for three generations.
- Fred 'Freddie' Ames: Hey, you changed your office, haven't you? I hardly recognize it.
- Lois Ames: You should come down oftener and see where your busy little wife works.
- Fred 'Freddie' Ames: You're a swell girl, Lois. Don't you ever resent having a rich loafer for a husband?
- Lois Ames: Never.
- Lois Ames: You see, I've been having trouble with secretaries. The work is so uncertain. It needs a man. You understand that our relations will be purely of a business nature.
- Thomas 'Tom': Of course, Mrs. Ames.
- Lois Ames: It pays 50 a week and may develop into something better. That, of course, will be up to you.
- Thomas 'Tom': Well, I shall certainly appreciate the chance, Mrs. Ames.
- Lois Ames: Good.
- Thomas 'Tom': Can't you get it through your fat head that, today, there's just as many serious-minded women in business as men. When you meet them you don't have to treat them as if your out on a party.
- Andy Doyle: Well, what did you do?
- Thomas 'Tom': I didn't talk to her any differently than I would to a man.
- Andy Doyle: You're all alone with her.
- Thomas 'Tom': Well, what of it?
- Andy Doyle: Well, why didn't ya?
- Thomas 'Tom': Listen, kid, it isn't fair to you to be engaged.
- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: Why not?
- Thomas 'Tom': Well, that night we were all swanked up and I talked you into it. Who am I to be engaged to any woman?
- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: You know something, you were just fooling, but, its true, if you hadn't been swank that night, we wouldn't be engaged.
- Thomas 'Tom': I knew you had brains. I knew you'd see it that way.
- Ruth 'Ruthie' Holman: Why, of course, I do. Seeing you swank was what made me fall in love with you - the swell way you carried your liquor. Any boy who can get away with what you did, so politely, well, I want him for life.
