First film made from a story by Dorothy L. Sayers. At the time, Sayers had already written several novels and short stories featuring the gentleman sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey, but this original story was written by Sayers specifically for the screen. She was disappointed with the final result.
By the time this film was made Lillian Oldland had changed her name to Mary Newland.
This is one of about three dozen British films picked up by CBS in 1949 for television presentation; its initial telecasts took place in New York City Saturday 21 May 1949 on WCBS (Channel 2) followed by Baltimore Saturday 10 June 1949 on WMAR (Channel 2). Since this title had never been shown theatrically in the USA, these telecasts also marked its USA premiere.
It first aired in Los Angeles Wednesday 1 March 1950 on KLAC (Channel 13).
