- At a rodeo in Arizona, tenderfoot Jim Traft (Benny Baker) confides to a stranger, Jim Travis (Tom Keene), his dislike of the West, and especially his dislike of taking over his uncle's ranch to learn the cattle business. Since the foreman of the ranch,"Windy" Watkins (Irving Bacon), has never seen Traft, he proposes that Travis pose as him and take over the job of building a drift fence as a protection against rustlers. TRavis, a Texas Ranger who has come to Arizona on the trail of a Texas rustler, agrees to do so. Later, Clay Jackson (Stanley Andrews), the Texas fugitive Travis is hunting, pays off his rustlers in the saloon and cautions them not to let "Slinger" Dunn (Buster Crabbe), owner of the ranch adjoining the Traft ranch, suspect he is being used as a dupe of the rustlers. Dunn and his sister Molly (Katherine DeMille) and their grandmother (Effie Ellsler) are against the building of the fence as it will destroy the tradition of the open range.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
