The failure of the original copyright holder to renew the film's copyright resulted in it falling into public domain, meaning that virtually anyone could duplicate and sell a VHS/DVD copy of the film. Therefore, many of the versions of this film available on the market are either severely (and usually badly) edited and/or of extremely poor quality, having been duped from second- or third-generation (or more) copies of the film.
When this film made its New York City television debut 7 August 1947 on WABD, the film distributor was paid $150; its next telecast, 1 June 1948 on WNBT, cost them $400; its 20 August 1948 telecast on WPIX went for $200; for its next showing 25 November 1948 on WJZ, the price went up to $800; it surfaced again 30 August 1949 on WABD costing them only $250, probably because it had already been telecast four times previously, and its next resurrection 6 March 1950 on WCBS went for $325.
