Inflation
A dollar sign comes out of a flying money bag and sings a song about inflation, rice controls, and the need to pay taxes with a smile and save your money, in this wartime cartoon directed by Norman McLaren for Canada's National Film Board.
I have never known anyone to pay a tax bill, with a smile, and I doubt anyone did so during the Second World War, but Canadians are far more polite than A,Erica s, so I guess it's barely possible: particularly if was a smile of relief. I've been known to smile that way when a bill comes in lower than expected. Still, it's taxes, so it seems unlikely.
McLaren would spend decades working for the NFB, turning out a great variety of shorts, many of them animated. Some are, classics. This one is not, but it's interestingly abstract for 1943.
