Frank James (Steve Darrell) and Jesse James (Clayton Moore), fugitives from justice, together with miner Jim Powell (Stanley Andrewes) and his daughter Judy (Noel Neill), devise a plan to repay the victims their gang has robbed. Jim is certain that, with a little more work, one of his mines will yield enough gold to pay off handsomely. Jesse borrows enough money from an old friend, Paul Thatcher (Sam Flint), to buy the necessary equipment, and work is begun. When gold is discovered, mine foreman Amos Ramsey (John Crawford) murders Powell and conceals the discovery. Ramsey than hire the outlaw gang of Rafe Henley (George J. Lewis) to prevent any attempts to work the mine. Frank and Jesse, posing as Judy's cousins, return to town in an effort to track down Powell's killer and reopen the mine. When the Henley gang continues to block work in the mine by destroying equipment, Frank and Jesse do everything possible to raise money for new supplies, while, at the same time, fighting off gang attacks.
