Emma Väänänen, playing Hilja Syrjämäki, was the cinematographer, Eino Heino's wife: the (same name) novel on which the film was based by F.E. Sillanpaa, had told the director (Valentin Vaala) that the real, only character should be just the summer night, but despite contemporary praise for this aspect (cinematography), the film won four national film award recognitions (called 'The Jussi') - but not for this: instead they were for the actors Katajiusto, Roine and Leppanen, plus also for the adapted screenplay / writers.
