"Eeva of the Gentlemen"
random_avenger4 August 2010
Eeva Taavanen (Liisa Tuomi) is a perky garment factory worker who is spotted for an unexpected career as a stocking model. When her shady boyfriend Bertil (Holger Salin) asks her to deliver a package of illegal alcohol, she does so thinking it is just cod liver oil and becomes a suspect in police investigation of Bertil's activities. Luckily she also has an irresistible influence on the many men around her, including a handsome judge named Antti Vaaras (Erkki Viljos), and can handle all the problems without ever losing her carefree view of life.

The movie is carried entirely by the lively performance of Liisa Tuomi in the title role. The character of Eeva is refreshingly "immoral" considering the year of release for the movie: she's never had a father, accepts favours, lifts and meals from various men she barely knows, gets heavily drunk in a restaurant and routinely hangs out in dubious circles of the underworld. Besides Tuomi's sizzling on-screen energy, there's not much to see though, as the plot gets stuck in the same situation for too long and doesn't advance very smoothly. In any case, Herrojen Eeva is a watchable old Finn-comedy, even if nothing stellar.
