The reintroduction of dual protagonists in the upcoming game Assassin’s Creed Shadows had fans excited However, recent gameplay teasers have left many feeling underwhelmed, particularly with Yasuke’s combat style.
Yasuke, a formidable warrior of African descent in feudal Japan, was expected to bring a fresh perspective to the game, showcasing a unique blend of strength and agility. Yet, the latest gameplay trailer suggests that his combat feels a little clunky.
The Latest Assassin’s Creed Shadows Gameplay Showed off Its Combat Systems
Assassin’s Creed Shadows finally showed off some Yasuke combat.
One of the primary concerns surrounding Yasuke’s gameplay is its lack of impact. Unlike the fluid, quick combat seen in titles like Ghost of Tsushima, his moves feel somewhat lackluster. The animations appear clunky, lacking the finesse and quickness that should be present.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the highly anticipated next entry in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise, is receiving unwarranted criticism from PlayStation 5 fans who unfairly compare it to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima. It appears that Microsoft’s backing for the title, along with the fact that the world-first gameplay was revealed during yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase of all events, has ruffled some feathers—especially after Sony’s lackluster State of Play last month.
But negative criticism and unjust comparisons aside, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is already shaping up to be a Ubisoft game that long-time fans of the series can finally get excited about after years of stagnation. On that note, here are seven features that set this game apart from its recent predecessors and prove why it’s set to be the best Assassin’s Creed title since the critically acclaimed AC: Origins!
1. A New Engine, A New Era Naoe and Yasuke plan their next move.

Tom Bower, the veteran character actor best known for prominent turns on The Waltons and in Die Hard 2, has died. A family member confirmed the news to Deadline’s sister publication The Hollywood Reporter. He was 86.
Bower never had what one might call a “breakout” part, but he was an actor one recognized from, well, everywhere. His more than 180 screen credits include appearances on The Rockford Files, Lou Grant, Quincy M.E., Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Law & Order and many other TV staples of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s.
And he kept on working. In the past 15 years, Bower was on Ray Donovan, Bosch, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, The Office and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He also played the father of Bob Odenkirk’s character on Lucky Hank and had a part in Vince Gilligan’s El Camino, A Breaking Bad Movie.

When thinking back on all the costumes that she’s helped design for “What We Do in the Shadows,” Laura Montgomery has a pretty easy time pinpointing who she had the most fun designing costumes for. “I can’t lie. Nadja is my favorite. I mean, I love them all but she’s the only woman in the lead cast and we don’t get a ton of female day players either. So getting to play with beautiful fabrics and the cuts, it’s really that kind of 1890s period meets with 1980s that’s a really fun period to design,” she tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above).
When thinking of a particular outfit of Nadja’s that she had fun designing, she thinks of a tartan traveling dress from the fourth season. She reveals, “It was this beautiful off-the-shoulder black brocade and...

Assassin’s Creed Shadows hasn’t been able to catch a break since its recent reveals from a few days ago. A lot of that has to do with the discourse surrounding Yasuke and whether Ubisoft should even attach the name Assassin’s Creed to the recent games.
It seems that the beatdown will not stop any time soon either, as a recent post by Ubisoft has been the subject of much criticism and confusion from fans. Best of luck with Shadows, and Ubisoft; you’ll certainly need it when the game finally comes out.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a title that has been creating headlines since it was announced. Further, when the trailer for the game went live, it caused an even bigger fan uproar. One of the two protagonists in the game, Yasuke, became the point of fiery debates and controversies.
But the overall response for the title’s first trailer was also much worse when compared to previous titles like Valhalla. Apart from various community members, Twitch Streamers like Asmongold also reacted to trailers for both titles, and the two reactions were vastly different.
Asmongold’s Reaction to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Was Significantly Better Than His Reaction to Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was the third title since the series took a different RPG-esque approach to its games. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be another product of the studio’s approach, which wasn’t the case with titles like Mirage.

Ubisoft’s upcoming game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has stirred up quite a bit of controversy, and it’s not just about the main character. While the community debates over Yasuke as the protagonist, popular Twitch streamer Asmongold has a different issue with the game: its pricing.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks poised to be a departure from the tone and tenor of its franchise, especially as of late. While last year’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage was always intended to be a throwback to earlier games in the series, that installment was also marketed as something of a side story—a smaller contained adventure versus the sprawling open world RPGs which compose Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla. But Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the series’ long-requested foray into the history of feudal Japan? This title is being developed by the same team at Ubisoft Québec that gave us Odyssey. So players very well might have expected more of the same.

We got our first look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows yesterday, and it’s safe to say that the hype is building. While it’s always wise to temper expectations, the cinematic trailer gave us a look at not only the two characters but also their relationship and motives in the game.
Even though it’s a cinematic rendition, we got a glimpse at both characters in combat scenarios as well. Naoe and Yasuke are both adept fighters, but one prefers stealth while the other charges forward with his strength. For stealth, the game has borrowed some mechanics from a fan-favorite franchise.

GTA 6 will most undoubtedly be the standout release of the year, no matter when it launches. The reason is the title’s hype and the series’ track record. The game’s expected release date is Q1 2025, and it is almost certain that no other title will be released close to it, as it would risk a clash.
However, upcoming titles for significant franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty are known to be coming. With several months between 2024 and 2025, Q4 2024 seems to be the perfect time to release high-profile video games, which could make for a happening holiday season for gamers.
GTA 6 Might Cause Titles Like Call of Duty Gulf War and Assassin’s Creed Shadows Come Out in Q4 2024 GTA 6 will compel publishers to release their games before 2025.
As mentioned, the title is expected to arrive in Q1 2025, as per reports and rumors in the industry, despite no official confirmation.

After several outstanding games, there’s a signature style that Hidetaka Miyazaki incorporates into his art that has become instantly recognizable and influential for other studios as well. Not only does he put his heart and soul into FromSoftware games, but his work shares similar elements with one another, which makes gamers associate those aspects with the Soulsborne director.
That trend continued in the developer’s 2019 release, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which borrowed a mechanic from some of Miyazaki’s previous games but put enough of a spin on it to make it feel fresh.

In 2018, she fought in the Infinity War and helped defeat Thanos in the Battle of Titan. Later, she voted to execute Doctor Strange due to his use of the Darkhold, which led to a multiversal incursion.

Former HBO Europe execs Johnathan Young and Ioanina Pavel have resurfaced with their own indie.
The pair have launched May One, which will be based in Bucharest, Romania — one of the former homes of HBO Europe. They are out of the gate with Subteran, a Netflix series announced last October that is produced alongside Tudor Rue from Mobra Films and now filming.
May One will seek to develop, produce and provide creative partnership for quality series shot in Romania, working with established and new talent from both within and outside the country. The company will look to open up Romanian resources and talent to the international industry to create collaborations in Europe and beyond.
In that sense, it harks back to HBO Europe’s ethos, which sought to bring together Central Eastern European talent with others from Western Europe and the U.S. It was considered one of the key international producers in the region,...

Meta documentary “Bushman” is receiving a 4K restoration and, for the first time, a multi-city theatrical release.
Director David Schickele’s 1971 film began as a fictional comedy starring his friend Paul Eyam Nzie Okpokam, following the “adventures of a well-educated Nigerian immigrant in San Francisco,” per the official synopsis. However, after Okpokam was wrongfully accused of a real-life crime, “Bushman” shifts to being a documentary about how Okpokam was imprisoned before being deported.
Filmmaker Schickele shot “Bushman” in 1968 after returning from the Peace Corps. Schickele’s is billed as being in the docu-fictional style vein of John Cassavetes’ “Shadows.” Kino Lorber and Milestone Film & Video supported the 4K restoration, which will screen January 15 at MoMA’s To Save and Project festival.

Although his name might be unfamiliar to a young generation of moviegoers, John Cassavetes was a giant in raising the profile of independent film in America. As a young man, after enrolling in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he took on small parts in films and appeared in episodic television until he picked up a camera and exploded onto the indie film scene with his 1959 film “Shadows.” From there, he went on to write and direct “Faces” (1968), which earned three Oscar nominations and eventually to 1974’s “A Woman Under the Influence,” which starred his wife Gena Rowlands (whom he met at the American Academy) in arguably her most triumphant performance. Cassavetes is such an important figure in independent cinema that every year, the Independent Spirit Awards present the John Cassavetes Award to the year’s best film that cost less than $500,000.

When Martin Scorsese finally won the directing Oscar for 2006’s The Departed, he inspired a handful of film buffs to point out the supposed travesty implied by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences long ignoring the landmark titles on the filmmaker’s resume in favor of a remake. Few pointed out, or seemed to recall, that America’s most beloved living auteur, was not only no stranger to remakes, but took up the business of remaking, rebooting, and paying homage as a more than honorable foundation for a now-legendary body of work.

I think if we did do Dark Shadows Og, we’d have to do a whole Dark Shadows week. If you want that please send your love notes to the higher ups. That’s said, let’s crank the Joy Division and take a step into the trashy romance novels of horror soaps, Dark Shadows Revival 91. Yes, we’re adding the 91.

Initiations are a delicate dance. If the welcome party is too genial, too forthcoming, or too needy, they can come across desperate, phony, or otherwise off-putting. But if greeters go the other way, it can feel like draconian hazing (at best) or outright hostility (at worst). The Guide, Kristen Schaal’s part-time vampiric player promoted to series fang-ular in Season 5, faces the latter version when she moves into a dilapidated Staten Island mansion occupied by four long-term roommates. Excluded, forgotten, and derided, The Guide takes her licking week after week, until Episode 9, “A Weekend at Morrigan Manor,” when she tricks her housemates into an impromptu vacation, then locks Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) in silver-lined cages and forces them to answer for their abominable behavior.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5, Episode 7.
There’s an unofficial rule on the set of “What We Do in the Shadows:” no fully CGI characters. So when Paul Jones, the series’ longtime prosthetics and animatronics designer, heard that there would be an episode filled with hybrid Guillermo creatures, he knew he was in for a challenge.
“Paul [Simms] knew right away that this was a lot of work for anybody, and he was able to schedule that toward the end of filming. I actually had probably about eight weeks lead up to it,” Jones told TheWrap.
That eight-week runway allowed for a lot of testing on one of the wildest episodes of the FX comedy series. All season long, Laszlo (Matt Berry) has been experimenting on Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), trying to determine what it means that his housemate is both a vampire...

This article does not spoil plot points What We Do In The Shadows season 5 episode 7, but reveals how certain special effect scenes are done.
The title of What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 7 “Hybrid Creatures” gives away the guest stars who hide their true selves behind bleats, ribbits, and floor-burning flatulence. Laszlo (Matt Berry) deems his experiments to slow vampiric progression a failure, and orders scientific containment. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), the one evolving into a vampire, is the container. He is given a sidearm to dispatch of the monstrosities created when science gets mad.
To understand the workings of the former familiar’s curious evolution, and a few giggles, Laszlo has been splicing Guillermo’s DNA with stray animals. We’ve already seen Guillermo’s face on levitating frogs, but now there is a whole litter to be cleaned. The vampires have an infestation of Guillermo-things, and there...

Actor who starred in John Cassavetes’s Shadows and gave Michael Caine the plans for the heist in The Italian Job
The lacerating 1959 drama Shadows, a pinnacle of US independent film-making, heralded two striking new talents: the director John Cassavetes and the actor Lelia Goldoni, who was just 20 when she gave a guileless performance combining wistful romanticism and mercurial restlessness. She played Lelia – all the actors in the film share their first names with their characters – who is an African-American woman “passing” for white. Goldoni herself was of Sicilian descent.
When Lelia’s white boyfriend meets one of her darker-skinned brothers (Hugh Hurd) and realises that she is black, his discomfort inflames tensions in the household and sends aftershocks through the rest of the film.
