"Maybe I shoulda said Dimaggio?" . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . is the best line of this brief cartoon, originally released in 1959 to help celebrate Major League Baseball Day. The owner of a talking dog has just asked his pet "Who's the best ball player of All Time?" to which Fido has replied "Ruth." Since the pair are auditioning for a job on some TV show such as "Sports Center," and because the talent scout for whom they're performing seems to be that kind of know-nothing corrupt capitalist Fat Cat with no respect for the Diamond's Golden Age (which featured such Gold Standard heroes as Tyrus "Ty" Cobb, Lou "The Iron Horse" Gehrig, "Hammering Hank" Greenberg, and--of course---George Herman "Babe, the Sultan of Swat" Ruth), but rather he ignorantly kowtows to the "feats" of so-called "Silver Age" Johnny-come-Latelies such as Ted "Jarhead" Williams and Joe "Mr. Coffee" DiMaggio, this brassy ignoramus boots both the talking mutt's promoter and Fido himself from his audition room when the canine speaks up in favor of The Great Bambino. Many Americans are familiar with the expression or aphorism beginning with the words "Out of the mouths of babes . . . ," but UNNATURAL HISTORY is generally credited by epistemologists with popularizing the comment "Out of the mouths of dogs."
