Stan Lee’s favorite DC character could find a place in James Gunn’s Dcu if one director were to helm the film. In the earlier Dceu, reports suggested that Michael Bay was attached to direct a movie featuring the character Lobo. The Transformers director has a knack for creating movies that gamble with absurd characters and produce amazing results. He might be the right fit to handle this character of an intergalactic bounty hunter.
The character of Lobo could still get a solo project in James Gunn’s Dcu
Interestingly, Jason Momoa pitched a solo Lobo film to Gunn during the promotion for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Momoa became a fan of the minor Superman villain of the ’80s who became popular in the ’90s as a parody of grim and gritty characters who defined comics in that decade.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is both a direct sequel to 2018’s Aquaman (also directed by Wan) and also the fifteenth and final film in the Dceu (the DC Extended Universe). As such, it does the occasional bit of floundering, but it just about treads water, thanks to a mostly seaworthy plot and suitably salty character work.
The plot picks up a few years after the events of the first film, with Arthur Curry / Aquaman (Jason Momoa) now married to Mera (Amber Heard), raising a young son, Arthur Jr. and dividing his time between ruling as the King of Atlantis (complete with shiny orange armour), and fighting crime on the surface world. Michael Keaton is regarded as one of the finest actors in the entertainment industry who gained worldwide recognition when he starred as Bruce Wayne a.k.a., Batman in 1989’s Batman and later 1992’s Batman Returns. Directed by Tim Burton, the DC superhero movie was only given a green signal after Burton’s 1988 Beetlejuice was a success.
Keaton’s casting was considered a controversy at the time since the actor had been pigeonholed as a comic actor and fans along with critics weren’t sure if he could portray a serious character like Batman. The actor’s performance was highly lauded by the audience and the critics after the movie was released. The actor recently reprised the character for 2023’s The Flash and was later asked about the future of his Batman in Dcu.

Actor John Travolta’s worldwide fame began when he starred in two cultural paradigm-shifting films: Saturday Night Fever, and Grease. The star achieved a rare feat that few actors had done: staying at the top two spots at the domestic box office within eight months. However, now that record seems to be broken by Timothée Chalamet.
Timothée Chalamet’s starring roles in Wonka and the recent Dune: Part Two have made him a star like no other. The films were at the top spot in their opening weeks and only slightly slowed down with new releases. While Wonka grossed $218 million domestically in its lifetime run, Dune: Part Two currently stands at over $494 million and is only expected to earn more in the coming weeks due to less competition.

Ho ho ho! Santa Claus came to town last night and when he stopped over at the Warner Bros. lot, he seemed to leave two sparkling new presents in shiny wrapping paper… and a lump of coal they call Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Indeed, the strangest thing about this year’s four-day Christmas weekend frame at the box office is that technically Warner Bros. is overall having a pretty happy Christmas. The studio’s all-ages and holiday appropriate release from last weekend, Wonka, is projected as having a respectable 52 percent drop over the three-day weekend, but that doesn’t account for the fact that the fourth day is Christmas, which means it should make $26 million over the holiday (or really a drop of only 33 percent). Meanwhile The Color Purple is expected to join Wonka in the top three when it opens today. But what of the number one film of the season?...

Numbers have begun rolling in for this Christmas weekend and as expected Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is pulling out a first place victory, however before we start celebrating, this final entry in the DC Extended Universe is pulling in just around $30 million for its 3 day haul, roughly $4 million shy of where we thought it could get to in our Thursday predictions, while its full 4 day outlook (including Christmas Day on Monday) is looking to be in the $40 million range.
That is quite the fall from grace when you consider that just 10 years ago the DC Extended Universe was launched to much fan fare when Man of Steel took in $116.6 million in its first 3 days ($128.6 million in its first 4 days). This opening comes in about $38 million shy of what the first Aquaman did back in 2018 and even worse than the notorious bombs Black Adam and The Flash ($67 million and $55 million respectively). The Dceu Ends With Anticlimactic ‘Aquaman 2’ Post-Credits Scene. What’s Next for Jason Momoa and DC?
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” now playing in theaters.
After 10 years, 16 movies and some disappointing reviews and box office performances of late, the DC Extended Universe has officially come to an end with “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
Jason Momoa stars as Aquaman for the seventh time in his career, after two solo movies, a “Justice League” team-up and a handful of cameos. His first standalone movie, 2018’s “Aquaman,” defied expectations and ended up making $1.15 billion at the worldwide box office, the highest-grossing DC movie ever.
But this is likely Momoa’s final time suiting up as Aquaman. New DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are rebooting the DC universe with 2025’s “Superman: Legacy,” with plans to recast most of the major roles. There isn’t an “Aquaman” movie on the DC slate they’ve revealed so far, meaning “Lost Kingdom...

The DC Extended Universe is dead; long live the DC Universe. What has felt like a months-long inevitability has finally turned into reality with the release of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," which technically functions as the last chapter of the superhero saga that began a little over 10 years ago with Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel." What comes next will be the beginning of a much different approach, shepherded by DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. But compared to the slate of high-profile projects that Warner Bros. confidently announced back in 2014, it's obvious that things didn't quite go according to plan -- and if ever there were a fitting eulogy for a franchise with plenty of unexpected highs and lows, well, that would be it.
To state the obvious, it was never the studio's intention to bring things to a conclusion with an "Aquaman" sequel, of all things.

In December 2018, Aquaman arrived with the amount of fanfare appropriate for the moment. It was the height of comic book culture, and one of its reigning kings, Jason Momoa, arrived at the movie’s blue carpet premiere with a golden trident. Full to the brim with bluster, he performed a ceremonial dance with members of the Maori community while wife Lisa Bonet and the couple’s kids stood in the wings. Stars Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard brought the glam and the shouts from photographers. After a raucous screening, the festivities then moved from the Chinese Theatre to the poolside afterparty at the Roosevelt Hotel.
The film would ultimately top $1 billion and stood as part of a zenith for comic book movies, in a year that included Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Five years later, things are much different. The sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,...

One of the most amusing bits of the 2000s HBO sitcom Entourage was the fake movies that existed within the TV show. While protagonist Vincent Chase was fictional, the Hollywood he moved through was not. Real actors playing versions of themselves cameoed as they helped build Chase’s fictional movie star career, with each faux film working as a parody of some trend or fad at the time. The most infamously pointed of these was Aquaman, a phony superhero flick designed to poke fun at the recent Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie.
I thought about that gag for the first time in years while watching Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this holiday weekend, and not just because it also revolved around DC’s most waterlogged superhero, Arthur Curry. Major spoilers ahead for "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."
Five years after the original "Aquaman" hit theaters and became an unexpectedly huge smash hit for DC, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" has arrived. Directed by James Wan, the sequel is another massive-scale adventure with Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry, who reluctantly teams up with Patrick Wilson's Orm to take on Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Notably, however, Aquaman does not team up with a very important DC superhero in the film: Batman. Indeed, for all of the buzz about Batman appearing in the film, it turns out that any footage of the Caped Crusader wound up on the cutting room floor. What the heck happened?
"I shot with a couple different Batmans," Momoa told The Wrap earlier this year. That was backed by an Instagram post from July 2022, which featured Momoa showed with Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne. After all,...

Peter Safran, the co-head of DC Studios, has shared that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom could be Jason Momoa’s final appearance as the legendary comic book character.
His comment came after the actor also said that the future of the DC superhero franchise is “not looking too good.”
While recently speaking at the Aquaman sequel event at the Iwc Schaffhausen boutique in Beverly Hills, Safran responded to a question about Momoa’s future at DC Studios. “When I think of Jason in this role, he is the definitive Aquaman,” he responded. “He’s redefined it.… It’s really been an 11- or 12-year journey for him — a lot of the audience doesn’t realize that he was cast so long ago. It’s kind of redefined him. When he took this role he was known as Khal Drogo, and now he’s really Aquaman.”

Warning: this post contains major spoilers for "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."
After five years, the best superhero movie of 2018 that did not win an Oscar is finally back with a sequel. "Aquaman" remains a high point of the Dceu, a fantastical adventure movie with great worldbuilding, cool performances, an excellent horror scene, and some of the most bonkers moments in the superhero genre — like a drums-playing octopus, an army of crab people, and Julie Andrews playing an aquatic kaiju.
Now, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" doubles down on everything its predecessor did by letting James Wan go fully nuts. It expands the world of Aquaman by bringing in a mythical threat and introducing DC's answer to Mordor, it has a poignant story about the current threat to the environment, and it also gives us a fun road trip movie with Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson as bickering brothers that once fought to the death.

It’s the most wonderful time of year, when movie studios release their big end of the year blockbuster films and their small prestige pictures vying for Oscar glory. Only problem is: this year Santa seems to be delivering a big lump of coal to the box office as the end of year box office relies heavily on a franchise that has completely crashed and burned throughout 2023.
That’s right, this year we don’t have any Avatar: The Way of Water or Spider-Man: No Way Home or Jumanji: the Next Level or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. No, this years Holiday box office fate rides pretty heavily on the final film in the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Granted, this is the DC film that has the biggest shot at success as the first film is the highest grossing DC film of all time with a worldwide take of $1.15 Billion.

Plot: Aquaman (Jason Momoa) finds his peaceful reign as King of Atlantis cut short when his former enemy, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), is imbued with the power of the evil Black Trident. Bent on destroying Aquaman’s family, our hero must turn to an unlikely ally, his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson).
Review: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been a surprisingly controversial sequel. One would think that because it’s following up a billion-dollar smash and reuniting a well-loved director in James Wan with a well-loved leading man in Jason Momoa, it would have been a slam dunk. But, the film has faced a staggering amount of behind-the-scenes drama, including reshoots, release date delays, and lousy test screenings (which began two years ago). Plus, it’s been through no less than three studio regimes, and that’s not even counting the fact that one of the stars, Amber Heard,...

It’s fitting that “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is about a dying world that can’t be bothered to save itself, as this goofy but half-hearted sequel — a damp shadow of James Wan’s deliriously fun 2018 original, which grossed more than a billion dollars at the height of the superhero boom — is the orphaned child of a cinematic universe that was abandoned at sea while this movie was still in the womb. Greenlit at a time when it seemed like Jason Momoa’s Atlantean surf-himbo might be light enough to buoy the rest of the Dceu, “Lost Kingdom” is being released in theaters as the product of a conglomerate that didn’t exist when production began, and under the banner of a newly formed studio that didn’t have any use for it by the time production ended. For DC Films, Aquaman was the future; for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios,...

There’s a popular meme, spread across various social media platforms, where users upload a photo or video of themselves engaging in a series of increasingly ridiculous poses or actions. It’s accompanied by variations of the phrase “Never let them know your next move” — a cheeky imperative warning against predictability. Unlike participants in this trend, the team behind Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom isn’t afraid of doing what’s expected. They seem to prefer it.
James Wan’s sequel to his 2018 blockbuster Aquaman is frustratingly committed to formula. There are few surprises in this story of how Jason Momoa’s Arthur balances the responsibility of ruling his underwater kingdom with the challenges of parenthood. There are even fewer inspired moments in the screenplay, which moves between clunky exposition laying out more Atlantis lore and a string of punchlines in search of a joke. The dramatic year of American cinema is about to come to a close. Many of the usual franchise movies that were thought to bring in triple-digit millions at the box office struggled to make a splash. The dual strikes from the writers and actors delayed many projects. A superhero movie fatigue has finally come into question. The big studio businesses made a lot of controversial decisions that have rubbed audiences the wrong way. And at the end of the tunnel, Warner Bros. has a huge chunk of the market during the holiday season with three big titles — Wonka, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Color Purple.
Deadline is reporting that while Warner Bros. is offering three films that should cover multiple bases, the studio may not get what they asked for this Christmas. In recent years, Christmas week would offer up an unusually high amount of releases, with all...

Amber Heard's removal from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has long been the subject of fan discussions after the actress became involved in a messy legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
In September 2020, during the early days of Heard & Depp's public dispute, it was reported that Heard would still be part of Aquaman 2. However, as the actress' legal fiasco with Depp continued, rumors emerged about Heard's status in the Dceu sequel.
Former president of DC Films Walter Hamada testified during the Heard-Depp trial in May 2022, confirming that Warner Bros. initially declined Heard's option to return in The Lost Kingdom due to apparent concerns that the studio had regarding Heard's chemistry with Aquaman franchise star Jason Momoa. However, this decision was reversed prior to the sequel's production start in 2021.

With the release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” this week, Warner Bros. long, disappointing year of superhero films comes to a merciful end. No matter how well ‘Lost Kingdom’ does at the box office, the film marks the last of the pre-James Gunn/Peter Safran regime, and thus, closes the book on the Dceu. And with all of this being very public knowledge, ‘Aquaman’ star Jason Momoa has a really strange interview cycle to take part in.

It’s been an incredibly long journey for the Fastest Man Alive on the big screen. But various false starts later, Warner Bros.’ The Flash is finally about to take a bow in theaters. Directed by Andy Muschietti (It) from a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey), the film in part adapts the classic DC comic Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) goes back in time to save his mother from death and completely changes the present, creating a dystopian alternate DC timeline. While it doesn’t look like the movie will get too bogged down in the many subplots of Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s miniseries, The Flash will incorporate quite a bit of DC movie history into its runtime.

Jason Momoa and his trident are back! But maybe not for long. Thanks to new DC Studios co-chief James Gunn, the DC Extended Universe is coming to an end this Christmas season — and it'll wrap up with a sequel to DC's highest-grossing movie of all time, "Aquaman." While Batman, Superman, Shazam, Wonder Woman, and Black Adam are all being left behind, if there's any character that has a shot at transferring into the new DC Universe, Jason Momoa's King of Atlantis looks like the best bet. Given the film's commercial chances.
Of course, just because the first "Aquaman" movie rode the waves to become a billion-dollar grosser, doesn't mean its follow-up — "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" — is destined to do the same. Momoa and returning director James Wan will be hoping for a repeat; more so the latter. The actor might already have a future in the new Dcu, given...

Deadline has reported that Legendary is developing Animal Friends with an all-star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, and Vince Vaughn.
Not much is known about Animal Friends, only that it will be a live-action/animated hybrid which is being described as “an R-rated road trip adventure.” As to who Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, and Vince Vaughn will be playing in Animal Friends, your guess is as good as mine at this point. But they’re all very funny folks, so we should be in for a good time. The project has been scripted by Kevin Burrows and Matt Midler, who have previously worked together on The Package for Netflix and Gentlemen Lobsters for Condé Nast. The pair also recently sold The Pick Up to Amazon, a heist comedy spec with Tim Story attached to direct and Eddie Murphey eyeing the leading role. Animal Friends...

Exclusive: Legendary has set an all-star cast for their forthcoming film Animal Friends, combining live-action and animated characters from writing duo Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, with Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 3), Jason Momoa (Fast X), Vince Vaughn (Bad Monkey) and Aubrey Plaza (Megalopolis) coming aboard for roles.
Plot details for the project, described as an R-rated road trip adventure, are being kept under wraps. Emmy-winning director Peter Atencio (The Machine) is at the helm.
The idea for the film came from a general meeting between Burrows & Mider and Patrick Gooing, an executive at Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort. Producing alongside Legendary are Maximum Effort and Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios. Visual effects and animation will be provided by leading visual entertainment services company, Dneg.
Most recently starring opposite Will Ferrell in Apple’s popular holiday musical comedy Spirited, Reynolds prior to that starred in The Adam Project and Red Notice...

With James Gunn and Peter Safran charting a mostly new course for the DC Universe, the fates of certain characters have been left up in the air, but Jason Momoa is confident that Aquaman will be a part of their plans.
“Peter [Safran]’s my producer [on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom], and is a dear friend,” Jason Momoa told Total Film during an interview. “I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the Dcu. It’s on, bro – there’s no one bigger than Aquaman!” Momoa also touched upon the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which he hopes people are excited to see. “It’s fun,” Momoa said. “I really enjoy doing comedy. There’s some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson. I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It’s like we’re brothers. There’s a lot of cool stuff happening in this one.

Warner Bros brought a lot of DC — a lot — to its CinemaCon session Tuesday. In addition to a trailer for The Flash and Dwayne Johnson showing up to push DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam, the cast of Shazam: Fury of the Gods stopped by with a trailer, as did James Wan who had a sizzle reel of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods cast members Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer and Asher Angel were on hand for the presentation at Caesars Palace Colosseum, along with Helen Mirren who plays the villain Hespera.
Levi said it was “super dreamy getting the gang back together” and promised the original’s themes would remain in the sequel. “We don’t want to veer from the magic we were able to find in the first movie, balancing action, comedy, drama and heart. That’s a massive part of...

This debut feature of muscleman favorite Reg Park is one of the better sword ‘n’ sandal epics; it has good action and a terrific villainess in Fay Spain. The okay story is Benoit’s L’Atlantide, re-shaped to fit the fad for all things Hercules. The Film Detective’s disc is the Woolner Bros.’ American release, trimmed by half a reel and given an entirely new audio mix. It’s still an impressive show.

"I really am looking for absolution for all the things I had to do for money's sake."
Edgar G. Ulmer said that, to Peter Bogdanovich.
Everything about Ulmer's last film, The Cavern (1965), speaks of hope battling despair. Ulmer, known informally as "King of the Bs," was a man who toiled in the darkness of the underfunded, unregarded B-movie, Z-list, exploitation world for practically all of his career. After making the surreal death-dream that is the Karloff-Lugosi horror The Black Cat (1934), Ulmer found himself informally blacklisted and worked on the margins of the film industry, going wherever the money could be scraped together to make something... anything.
Of course, the reason he's remembered is that within the impossible limits of micro-budget genre film-making (two-week schedules, one-week schedules), he kept producing films, or at least moments, that aspired to our achieved greatness. He didn't wait for the right project. He couldn't afford to.
