Sex & Nudity

  • A reference to geisha. A woman tells a man that he can do whatever he wants with three geisha. As lower-class geisha were little more than prostitutes, this is a clear sexual reference. Sanjuro rescues a woman from rape.

Violence & Gore

  • Occasionally, severed limbs are seen but this is never too graphic.
  • The main character seems to be unmoved by violence and he kills alot of people wihout alot of thought.
  • A dog runs with a hand on his mouth
  • There is some action throughout but the majority of it happens at the end.

Profanity

  • A few uses of "b****," and "son of a b****".
  • Mild swearing depending on the translation. The Japanese includes uses of the words "Chikusho" and "kuso" (traditionally translated out to "damn" or "damn it" and "shit," respectively).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A majority of the movie has character's consuming sake, in one scene two characters get drunk.
  • Sanjuro and other characters drink a large amount of sake during the film.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some gun violence besides the use of dagger and sword

  • There is a fight at the end of the movie. Many people are killed with a sword but there isn't much blood throughout.
  • The main character is savagely beaten and his face is seen bloodied. This scene goes on for some time.

  • The film does not get graphic but there is alot of violence especially towards the end.
