The film was shot in four weeks. The screenplay by Marja-Leena Mikkola was used as a framework, but a lot of the dialogue was improvised on the set together with the director and actors. Director Mikko Niskanen wanted the characters to be loose and natural, and not too theatrical.
Actors Kristiina Halkola and Kirsti Wallasvaara says that director Niskanen was an old-fashioned man from the countryside, so he wasn't comfortable doing the intimate scenes in the movie. He gave a lot of freedom to the actors instead.
The band playing at the dance pavilion was Creatures. It featured singer Kirka Babitzin and Remu Aaltonen on drums who both became well-known music figures later on in Finland.
Actor Pekka Autiovuori was genuinely drunk during the scene where his character Timppa returns from the dance pavilion. Director Niskanen wanted authenticity so he got the actor drunk.
Four leading actors were, during the shooting, studying at the movie school.
