Of Men and Demons
CinemaSerf20 March 2024
An agrarian family are getting by when three bored gods decide to have some fun. Rain, Fire and Wind descend upon the farm and reduce their industry to ashes. These folks are resilient, though, and their response is a little like the "Three Little Pigs". The gods can huff and puff, but they can't blow down their new homes and factories of stone and metal. Thing is, the people haven't really thought through the ramifications of their developing science and so gradually the pollutive effects of their machines impact far more globally than their three mischievous gods could ever have done. Can they dial it back in time? Though I didn't rate the quality of the animation so much here, some of it is quite bland and indistinct, the Hubley's were certainly on message about matters environmental with this. It's worth ten minutes, but maybe not a film that will stick in your mind.

Another fascinating short by John and Faith Hubley
llltdesq3 October 2001
John and Faith Hubley probably don't get as much recognition as they should, but then, animation doesn't get the recognition it merits as an artform. This is an excellent example of animation as art tha is also entertaining as well. It was nominated for an Academy Award and is fascinating to watch. The style the Hubleys use can be a bit jarring at times and if you think animation is for kids, you may not enjoy this one much. John Hubley's contributions to animation were significant and so were and ae his wife Faith's and daughter Emily's. Most recommended for anyone interested in animation or trying something a bit different.

Where There's a Will...
Hitchcoc17 October 2021
This is a positive look at the potential of humanity. It starts with an individual managing his environment. But demons come and destroy what he has. With the help of another, he finds things to evade the pain and destruction. But over production and carelessness bring the demons again along with pollution. But the will of the creators find a way. Nicely done. Would it were true.
