A classic wildlife show well worth seeking out
eveiversen4 October 2006
In the US the series was called "The World of Survival" but its original title was "Survival". This is a classic TV documentary that ranks alongside National Geographic. The episode "Garamba: The Impossible Elephants" tells over the 100 year tradition of domesticating African Elephants that was begun under the Belgians in the Congo and has continued to this day. Garamba National Park is a UNESCO Heritage site that is now in dire condition. The grave warnings about the threat of war have come true and now the wildlife, including the tamed elephants and the Congolese families that protect them may not survive into the 21st Century. Watch this show and see how the courage of the dedicated wardens who are trying to protect this corner of Africa.

The World of Survival episodes

This was an excellent wildlife series. There were two forms that played in the US that contained different theme songs. I believe also in the US that this show was only 30 minutes in length. It was played a lot on cable before going off the air for good. Somewhere this series exist in some movie vault. PBS in the US picked it up for awhile after changing the theme song and rebroadcasting it in the early 90s. It would be great if I could find this series, however I've not been able to find the American version with John Forsythe anywhere. Does anybody have a copy of any episodes "The World of Survival" or know where I may obtain them? My favorite episode was the dolphins.
