Richie takes Lori Beth with him one day while Fonzie out out and Chachi is repairing a truck rented by Postie, Ralph, and Al. Chachi gets the truck running and the gang is ecstatic, but their happiness disintegrates when an injured Lori Beth runs into the garage begging for help because of a savage crash that has caught her and Richie. Later at the hospital the doctor can only tell Howard and Marion that Richie was fortunate he was wearing his helmet, but that he may never regain consciousness. While the family go home and are greeted by their friends (Leather offers a touching song to comfort everyone), Fonzie goes to the hospital late that night and sees the unconscious Richie. The sight so horrifies Fonzie that he utters a rambling prayer to the Lord ... and finally breaks down in tears at the possible death of his friend. Fonzie keeps a bedside vigil for Richie, who eventually awakens from his coma. Richie makes a full recovery and is quickly back to his old self, and Fonzie thanks God for helping pull his friend through. |

Unaware of this, Richie, Postie, and Ralph uncover the mastermind behind the counterfeiting ring, a flamboyant heavyset criminal known as Candy Man for his obsessive indulgence in lollipops. Richie overhears Candy Man lamenting that Fonzie has found his counterfeit loot, and vows to kill him. Richie manages to sneak out of the funeral home, but Ralph and Postie are grabbed by Candy Man's henchmen. When Richie returns home he learns that Fonzie is going to his garage.
