Quotes

  • Bobby Kopas : It ain't sunk into that thick brain of yours yet. See, everything goes a lot easier and a lot less trouble when you're doing business with me. You understand what I'm talking about?

Vince Majestyk : You make sounds like you're a mean little ass-kicker... only I ain't convinced. You keep talking and I'm gonna take your head off.

  • Vince Majestyk : [Last line]  Hey Lieutenant, you were right. He was really trying to kill me.

  • Frank Renda : You know, we could be in LA tonight.

Frank Renda : Get in a couple of broads.

Frank Renda : Go to Mexico city in a few days.

Frank Renda : Cruise around, get a boat, anything you want!

Vince Majestyk : I've been to LA and I've been to Mexico and I've been laid.

Frank Renda : Well, what DO you want?

Frank Renda : I want to get a melon crop in!

  • Vince Majestyk : Come on, Frank, let's finish this! I got work to do!

  • Det. Lt. McAllen : [when Vince comes out of Larry's hospital room, he is met by McAllen and Harold]  Majestyk, I'm sorry about your hired man.

Vince Majestyk : He's not just a hired man.

Det. Lt. McAllen : A deputy was killed last night. Run over or beaten to death about the same time your migrants left. We'd like to locate them, talk to them.

Vince Majestyk : Why don't you talk to Frank Renda instead?

Det. Lt. McAllen : The Denver police have got a watch on his place. He hasn't been there. We don't know where he is.

Vince Majestyk : You don't know much about anything. Stay the hell away from me.

    [starts to leave]

Det. Lt. McAllen : We pull out, you know what'll happen.

Vince Majestyk : [turns around]  Well, let's see what's happened with you hanging around. So far, he's managed to run off my crew, shoot up some melons, break my friend's legs, and kill one of your deputies. Don't you talk to me about police protection!

    [points to Harold]

Vince Majestyk : Keep these hotshots off my property!

    [opens the exit door]

Det. Lt. McAllen : You're not gonna get those melons picked if you're dead.

Vince Majestyk : [turns around again]  If I'm dead, it won't matter, will it?

Det. Lt. McAllen : Suit yourself. You're on your own.

Vince Majestyk : Lieutenant, I've been on my own from the beginning!

    [walks out the door]

Deputy Harold Richie : Are we really pulling out?

Det. Lt. McAllen : We'll let him think so and see what happens.

  • Nancy Chavez : If you want to go to bed with me, why don't you say so?

Vince Majestyk : I don't want to talk about it. I want to do it.

  • Vince Majestyk : [while in a jail cell eating food, Majestic looks over to Renda's plate who is eating alone and ask him...]  Hey buddy, you going to eat those sausages?

[Renda pushes the plate off the table to the floor]

Vince Majestyk : You don't eat it, nobody eats it, then, huh?

Frank Renda : [casually]  Help yourself.

  • Vince Majestyk : I'll tell you what, I'll take one of those cigarettes if you have a spare one.

Black Prisoner : [stops Majestyk from going over to Renda]  Hey man, I'll give you one.

    Vince Majestyk : Oh, thanks.

    [looks st Renda]

    Vince Majestyk : I got a cigarette, so I don't need one.

Black Prisoner : [softly]  Hey man. don't you know who that is?

Vince Majestyk : [excited, whispers]  He's a TV star!

Black Prisoner : Man, that's Frank Renda.

Vince Majestyk : Yeah, I saw him play the accordion on TV.

Black Prisoner : No, man, that's Frank Renda. He's a hitman for the Mafia!

  • Det. Lt. McAllen : [enters his office, along with deputy Harold, to see Majestyk standing with another officer]  Okay, Ben.

    [the deputy leaves the room]

Det. Lt. McAllen : Have a seat.

Vince Majestyk : I've been sitting for four days. I guess another day won't matter. When do I go to trial?

    [sits down]

Det. Lt. McAllen : The guy you hit, Bobby Kopas, dropped the charges.

Vince Majestyk : [stands up, relieved]  Well...

    [grows suspicious]

Vince Majestyk : Why'd he do that?

Det. Lt. McAllen : Said he thought it over. Wasn't important enough to waste a lot of time in court. You think that's the reason?

Vince Majestyk : [happily]  Lieutenant, whatever the reason, it's all right with me, as long as I get back to my place.

    [starts towards the door]

Det. Lt. McAllen : Maybe you'd better stay here.

Vince Majestyk : [turns around annoyed]  Now, why would I do a dumb thing like that?

Det. Lt. McAllen : Because Frank Renda's still walking around free.

Vince Majestyk : Yeah, I know.

Det. Lt. McAllen : The eyeball witness who saw Renda commit murder was a police officer. He was killed when Renda escaped. No witness, no case. You've given Renda a real good reason to want to kill you and I can't think of anything that would stop him from trying.

Vince Majestyk : So, you want me as bait. You don't let me go, unless I hang around. Let him take a whack at me, hmm?

Det. Lt. McAllen : Something like that.

    [Majestyk sits back down]

Vince Majestyk : Why is it I get a feeling from you that you hope he pulls it off? Just so you can nail him for murder.

Det. Lt. McAllen : That did enter my mind, but we'll settle for attempted. As I remember it, you're the one that wanted to make the deal, so you could go home and pick your melons. All right... go pick them.

[Majestyk casually walks out of the office]

  • Vince Majestyk : [bangs on the truck's roof for Nancy to stop]  Stop!

[the truck stops and Vince gets out from the flatbed, closes the tailgate, and gets into the driver's side]

    Vince Majestyk : Move over!

[Nancy moves to the passenger seat, as Vince gets in]

Vince Majestyk : Guess there is no way to get rid of you, is there?

Nancy Chavez : I told you, you were stuck with me, Vincent.

  • Vince Majestyk : [goes inside a local bar to meet Julio and a contractor sitting down]  Julio.

Julio Tomas : [happily]  Hey, Vince, they let you out, man? That's great.

Vince Majestyk : I've been looking for you. Why can't you get me a crew?

Julio Tomas : Hell, man, you've been in jail.

Vince Majestyk : [annoyed]  Mendoza hasn't. He told me you turned him down the last two mornings.

Julio Tomas : Oh, it's the time of the year, Vince. I've got too much business. Other people ask first.

Vince Majestyk : Okay, I'm asking you now for tomorrow morning. Twenty people. $1.40 an hour.

Julio Tomas : Vince, I got crews signed for more than a week You're just too late, amigo, that's all.

Vince Majestyk : [to the contractor]  What about you? Will you give me a crew?

Labor Contractor : Maybe in ten days. I can't promise you nothing, right now.

Vince Majestyk : [frustrated]  What the hell is this? A stickup? What do you want, a bonus? What?

Julio Tomas : Vince, it's not the money. How can we get you people, if we don't have any?

Vince Majestyk : Hey, Julio. What the hell is the problem?

Julio Tomas : [persuasive]  Vince, will you listen to me? I gotta work for a living. I can't do it from no damn hospital, you understand?

Vince Majestyk : Okay. This I understand. Okay.

    [starts to leave]

Julio Tomas : Vince. Next season, okay, amigo?

    [Vince leaves]

Labor Contractor : [to Julio]  If he's still around.

  • Bobby Kopas : [Vince goes outside the bar to see Kopas sitting on the hood of Lundy's car]  Hey, I hear you're looking for a crew. Maybe I can get you some winos.

Vince Majestyk : [agitated, walks towards Kopas]  Maybe I can fix it, so you'll never smile again.

Bobby Kopas : You touch me, you'll be back in jail before noon.

[Kopas points across the street, where Vince sees Deputy Harold disguised as a road worker, sitting in a work truck and smiling at Vince. He walks towards his truck, but turns around to Kopas]

Vince Majestyk : Hey, what did you drop the complaint?

Bobby Kopas : I'm being a good neighbor. And you think I'm pulling something, huh? Now, why would you think that?

Vince Majestyk : [shrugs]  See me lose my crop?

Bobby Kopas : You know, I think you're mixed up. Standing there in deep shit.

    [chuckles]

Bobby Kopas : And all you're worried about is losing your melon crop.

Vince Majestyk : [walks towards Kopas again]  You've been talking to somebody, huh?

[Kopas quickly walks toward the passenger door of Lundy's car]

Bobby Kopas : Yeah, like who you got in mind?

Vince Majestyk : He get you to drop the complaint?

Bobby Kopas : [get inside the car]  I'm tired of talking to you, but I'll tell you one thing. Somebody's gonna set your ass on fire and I'm gonna be there to watch.

    [Lundy speeds away]

Gene Lundy : [sarcastically, to Kopas]  Real nice, big mouth. Real nice.

Bobby Kopas : I had to give him one. The son of a bitch.

  • Nancy Chavez : If you want to go to bed with me, why don't you say it?

Vince Majestyk : I don't want to say it, I wanna do it. Let's go.

Nancy Chavez : I have to use the Ladies room. If it isn't locked.

Vince Majestyk : If it is, I'll kick the door down.

  • Frank Renda : [meets Vince face-to-face at the bar]  How you doing there, buddy?

    [sits down]

Frank Renda : You okay? I just came by to tell you something. Maybe you know it already. But I want to make sure. I'm gonna kill you.

Vince Majestyk : [points across]  Hey, there's a couple cops over there.

Frank Renda : Yeah. Otherwise you might be dead already.

Vince Majestyk : When is this big event gonna take place?

Frank Renda : What's the difference? Tomorrow. Next week. You can hide in the basement of that police station, but I'm gonna get you, my baby.

Vince Majestyk : Seems like there's no use trying to get on your good side.

[he stands up and clocks Renda, sending him to the floor. Harold and another deputy stand up in shock and Kopas rushes over to help Renda up, but shoves Kopas away, with Vince doing the same]

Vince Majestyk : [to Renda, pointing to the deputies]  Hey, why don't you call the cops?
