A typical suburban teen and his friends start their own pirate radio station from the back of a van and become an underground cult hit. John Ireland plays an F. C. C. Investigator Hell-bent on pulling the plug, frustrated that he's being outsmarted at every turn.
A very modest production, but still great nostalgic fun for anyone who grew up during the 1970s, and featuring some classic rock tunes from Ted Nugent and Rod Stewart. PUMP UP THE VOLUME(1990), a far more "polished" film which stars Christian Slater, has many similar ideas in play, and might be regarded as a loose remake of CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT.
Though it's now forgotten by most, this film is worth a look despite its impoverished origins, and could possibly medialize a small cult following should it become more easily attainable.
