Minor but arousing showcase for Beth Anna
lor_24 January 2011
Though the video box hype is over-the-top in its superlatives, SWEET THROAT does succeed in showcasing the beauty & talents, limited though they might be, of star Beth Anna. Hardly a classic, it is nonetheless recommended to porn fans, especially those like myself who gravitate away from the hyped superstars to the second and third ranks of quality performers.

Beth Anna is sort of a combination of Hyapatia Lee and Vanessa Del Rio, with her very New Yawk accent pushing her closer in resemblance to the latter. Her acting is hardly Stella Adler level, but she performs sexually (particularly the advertised fellatio specialty) with aplomb, and is easy on the eyes.

Film opens with a minor altercation: both Beth Anna and recently divorced Eric Edwards are hurrying to arrive at an apartment, just gone on the market for rental. Beth irritates EE by failing to stop and help him with a flat tire (this was a bit mysterious to me as plot ploy, since he was perfectly capable of doing the manly thing and fixing it himself). So she arrives first and signs the lease, after servicing bldg. supervisor Roger Caine to get a better deal on the rent.

Edwards arrives too late, but Beth makes it all right by servicing him too. Both gentlemen comment on what a "sweet throat" she has, I guess to assuage the patrons fears' that they might have walked into the wrong movie.

Rest of this non-epic is devoted to Beth's BFF Clea Carson having sex scenes of her own, leading to a birthday party for Beth that of course turns into an orgy. This is mild porn of the lightest order, a soufflé of blow jobs, basically. Another attractive, well-built woman rounds out the female cast, Gloria Brown participating in the orgy.

Largely photographed in profile (befitting her fellatio specialty), Beth sports waist-length straight-straight black hair, a comely figure, and winning smile. She's not a knockout beauty of the Seka, Serena, etc. school, but far more of a turn on, in a sultry sort of way, than her famous pinup peers.

Picture is simply but adequately filmed, its biggest minus being an almost nonstop disco song soundtrack which grated on my ears. All three women do a good job, and even fitted with a dumb Jose Jimenez accent, Peter Andrews steals the male show as the telephone installation man sporting a really big package.
