Forget the "names"....Nelia is the real show here
gridoon26 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Maud Adams (of "Octopussy" fame) is a Nazi hunter who tries to get close to an infamous Nazi war criminal (Stewart Granger) by marrying his nephew. But the Nazi finds out her plans and has her killed. Now it's up to her daughter and a young soldier (who saves her life) to go to Paraguay, discover the Nazi's secret base and take him out. Despite being shot on location in Brazil and Paraguay, and having some semi-big names in the cast (it must be noted that George Lazenby has a very small role), "Hell Hunters" is a low-grade, fairly unbelievable action film that moves in fits and starts. Main point of interest, for me at least, was a strong action-girl supporting role for the beautiful Nelia J. Cozza, who helps the heroes in their mission. The female lead is not bad either, she looks a bit like Martha Plimpton. (**)

The only good thing is the firing of bullets on Hitler's poster.
Fella_shibby10 March 2020
Saw this for the first time recently. Got enticed after reading the synopsis. Recently finished Amazon Prime's Hunters n was keen on seeing on more Nazi hunting. The film is listed as a horror but there is nothing close to horror. The plot boasts about a spider serum made by a Nazi scientist that convert people into Nazi zombies. Forget about the zombies, we don't even get to c anything about the spider serum. It has atrocious music n editing. Check out the dialogues: "Relax, bad guys don't knock." "Why do u smoke cigars?" "I like feel of long, pointy things in my mouth." Was craving for some Nazi hunting but the sentence "now we go hunting for Nazis" appears after only 64 mins. Ther is no Nazi hunting but bad action with unnecessary explosions.

There is a scene, in the middle of a dangerous mission, with a bounty on head, in the middle of a jungle, our couple strips n dives into a waterfall to indulge in lousy sex scene accompanied by lousy song n music n sophomoric stunts in the water. It has lousy fight sequences n laughable kicks. It has a character named Kong whose sheer presence intimidates everybody. The villain's men r so wooden with the guns in their hands that they look like as if they r not even aware that a film shoot is going on. Check out the character El Pasado with his funny pony tail n his sad but wtf demise. There is a scene, a man is sitting n he gets shot but the bullet hits on the wall on his side close to his ear n he behaves as if nothing happened. It has some nudity, lousy sex scene under a waterfall n our George Lazenby as a Nazi scientist obsessed with his nephew.

Good '80s action movie
Mysteriously_Eerie7 January 2024
"Hell Hunters," released in 1987, encapsulates the essence of a classic '80s B-movie action flick. From start to finish, the film maintains an energetic pace that keeps viewers engaged throughout. The story unfolds with a typical-yet-thrilling narrative that defines the era's action cinema, where the plot often serves as a backdrop to adrenaline-pumping sequences. The movie's strength lies in its ability to embrace the unapologetic fun associated with B-movie culture.

One of the defining elements of "Hell Hunters" is its unabashed commitment to action, featuring numerous gunfights. The film doesn't shy away from delivering the expected dose of '80s-style firepower, catering to audiences who appreciate the genre's trademark explosions and high-octane confrontations. The gunplay is complemented by a soundtrack that resonates with the era's pulsating beats, enhancing the overall retro experience.

While "Hell Hunters" may not aim for cinematic greatness, it succeeds in delivering exactly what fans of '80s B-movie action expect - a rollicking ride filled with shootouts, explosions, and a nostalgic atmosphere. The movie's adherence to its genre roots makes it a worthwhile watch for those seeking a dose of unpretentious entertainment with a generous helping of action-packed sequences.

George Lazenby As An Evil Ex-Nazi Mad Scientist.......
businesscardinc18 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
This film features Stewart Granger and George Lazenby as two ex-Nazi evil mad scientists that are trying to turn people into zombies. What else could possibly be better than seeing George Lazenby playing an evil Nazi mad scientist? Bond babe Maud Adams (The Man With The Golden Gun/Octopussy) is also on board. " WARNING: Spoilers Contained Herein" Granger and Lazenby are in South America working with the locals when they are attacked by mercenaries pouring out of the jungle, which sends Granger fleeing. This horror flick is truly one for MST3K. Adams plays a Nazi hunter who is bent on killing Granger and stopping his evil work. Adams is killed and her daughter then goes on a mission of revenge. This is by far one of the truest examples of the genre. A perfect example of the cheap horror flick genre. This movie is hilarious, for having some really classic action scenes, and for having three well-known actors like Maud Adams, Stewart Granger and George Lazenby, and still being cheap.

There's always something wacky or at the very least mildly interesting going on.
tarbosh2200015 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A woman named Amanda (Adams) is a Nazi hunter. She's hot on the trail of Martin Hoffmann (Granger), who, like a lot of his baddie brethren, absconded to Brazil. While in hiding on the outskirts of Rio, Hoffmann develops a serum (why are they always developing serums?) which would turn the world into faithful fascist followers. Amanda's daughter Ally (Daly) is attending USC nursing school and isn't at all familiar with her mom's Nazi-hunting ways. But, due to an unfortunate turn of events involving not just her mom but also her dad, Karl (Berger), Ally is forced to travel to Brazil to root out the Nazis herself.

Well, she does have help in the form of a hunk named Tonio (Arantes), a babe named Nelia (Cozza), and a Jack S. Daniels-style wild n' crazy guy named Nelson "Kong" Webster (McCubbin). This ragtag team of heroes will not only have to face off against Hoffmann, but also his goons, including lead goon Heinrich (Lazenby) and sub-goon El Pasado (Conde). The South American jungles can sure be hell...but will that stop the plucky HELL HUNTERS from completing their mission? Find out today...

Hell Hunters gets off to a bit of a slow start but gradually picks up speed. It slowly accelerates until its explosive conclusion, and, in the end, is a satisfying viewing experience. It's more or less an Exploding Hutter, but the Nazi hunting angle gives it a bit of a difference. The main thing that sets Hell Hunters apart from its jungle-dwelling cohorts of the day are the characters. Not only the prominent ones, but the little ones as well. There's always something wacky or at the very least mildly interesting going on. The supporting players help a lot, and the main cast puts it over the top.

Stewart Granger is excellent as the main Nazi baddie. He puts in a charismatic, fun performance that only someone with a long career and a lot of experience could refine to that sort of point. Incidentally, Hoffmann has a framed picture of Hitler on his wall and a swastika flag in the dining room. Even his home decor screams "Man, I'm a devoted Nazi". He screens films of Nazi rallies in his den for himself and his buddies to watch as they smoke cigars, drink Cognac (presumably) and reminisce grandly about "the good old days". We haven't seen a Nazi this dedicated since John Savage had an evil glove drawer in Red Scorpion 2 (1994).

The assassin El Pasado is a real gem as well. He has one of the thickest unibrows we've ever seen, dresses in a white suit, and is heavily balding, except for a luxurious ponytail. Hey, it may look funny to you - and you'd be right - but you wouldn't want to see him coming for you in a dark alley at night. Thankfully, on the side of the good guys we have Kong. If anyone could possibly steal the movie from Granger, it's McCubbin. He's really a guy you'd want on your side. You can tell he likes to have a good time, and it's infectious.

The leading lady isn't Maud Adams as advertised, it's really Candice Daly from Cop Game (1988). Perhaps the people advertising the film were trying to play up the James Bond connection insofar as Adams and Lazenby are concerned. Hell Hunters isn't particularly Bond-esque but it does stand on its own two feet as an enjoyable jungle/Exploding Hutter.

When the very first line of the movie is something along the lines of "no more mistakes!" - which typically we have to wait until about mid-movie to hear - and ends with a triumphant Exploding Helicopter, you know Hell Hunters is worth checking out.

Low rent Nazi hunting action in South America
Leofwine_draca10 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
HELL HUNTERS is a low rent but engaging little action thriller that benefits from location photography in Brazil. This movie was a collaboration between the USA and West Germany and once more features Nazi scientists hiding out in South America, a subject matter well-mined in the 1970s with the likes of THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL.

HELL HUNTERS has no such highbrow aspirations and instead seeks to deliver brisk action sequences throughout and it does this with ease. The early scenes of a hired assassin working his way through the main cast members are quite suspenseful, but once the action shifts to Brazil it becomes more of a bombastic blow-'em-up adventure along the lines of COMMANDO. It's not a particularly violent film although there is a rather explicit sex scene at a waterfall.

The film is of interest for the old-time actors who feature. Maud Adams and George Lazenby, both famous for their participation in the Bond franchise, appear, Adams giving the best turn as a professional Nazi hunter and Lazenby cameoing. Best of all is veteran screen star Stewart Granger in one of his final roles as the chief Nazi, Martin Hoffmann. Italian actor William Berger is also present. The main roles are played by unknown young actors but they're not too shabby either.

Yo, This Movie Was Great, Ignore the Other Reviewers
Dark_Lord_Mark29 August 2021
Yeah, I watched, not knowing much about the movie, and it's great. I am not being sarcastic, it's good.

It has a good plot, a great pace, over the top acting, some bad lines. It's a good B-movie even be considered a good bad movie.

It's about Nazi's in South America and hunting them. It has the classic macho man, beautiful empowered woman who needs no man until she does, and a fast moving plot with gorgeous locations and over the top/cardboard cutout baddies.

It's good. I give it an 8 out of 10. It's a typical 80's movie. No awful CGI, but fast moving plot and action. Some nice background music plays if you pay attention.
