Excellent Croatian thriller-drama
ereinion4 October 2006
This movie, made in the days of old Yugoslavia while its movie industry was at its peak, is one of the best, if not THE best, thrillers made in that country. It stars Rade Serbedzija(Sherbedgia) as a poor blue collar man from Zagreb who is not satisfied with his situation and especially the fact that he cannot afford to buy a real good piece of meat for himself and his family. One night he accidentally stumbles onto a crime scene and finds a gun and a bag of money. This leads him to trouble as local gangsters are looking for the money bag.

There is some violence here, especially in the final showdown between Serbedzija and the gangsters. The acting is top notch and Serbedzija as Valentin has rarely been better. Also Fabijan Sovagovic and his daughter Ana make fine supporting performances. The ending is also unusually positive for a Yugoslav drama-thriller. I think this movie deserves a full 10.
