Benjamin Gregory, Kristy Swanson, and John Astin did not reprise their respective roles from the first film, Mr. Boogedy (1986). Benjamin Gregory, by this time, had been cast on the sci-fi sitcom, ALF, and, therefore, was not available. He was replaced by Joshua Rudoy. Kristy Swanson, was busy with other projects, and she was replaced by Tammy Lauren. John Astin, was also busy with other projects, and his character, Neil Witherspoon, was removed altogether, and was replaced by a similar character, Walter Witherspoon, Neil's apparent brother, (although it's never specified) portrayed by the late Leonard Frey.
The festival that is held in the fictional New England town of Lucifer Falls is called "Lucy Fest."
Joshua Rudoy, who portrays Aurie Davis, would appear later the same year in Harry and the Hendersons (1987). Three years later, he would be seen portraying the vengeful Billy Mahoney in the Joel Schumacher thriller, Flatliners (1990).
