March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.
With its list of new releases for March 2022, Hulu is highlighting two major original series ripped straight from the headlines. The first is The Dropout, which premieres on March 3. This show stars Amanda Seyfried (taking over from the previously cast Kate McKinnon) as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Hulu is certainly hoping its version is the definitive one.

Every once in a while comes along a film that has a story behind it – a story about its troubled production or problems the film may have post-production; a story that goes on to manifest itself into something bigger than the film itself. Ying Liang’s “When Night Falls” is one such film. The film screened at the Jeonju International Film Festival, amidst great attempts by the Chinese authorities to stop its showing, and at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Golden Leopard Awards for Best Director and Best Actress for An Nam. Before we talk about the film though, it is imperative that we understand, in brief, the real-life case that it is based around.
“When Night Falls” is streaming on CathayPlay
The film is based on the sensational real-life case of Yang Jia, who was arrested in Shanghai in October 2007 for riding an unlicensed bicycle. Beaten...

Michael Dudikoff leads a military-themed double feature in “Platoon Leader” and “Soldier Boyz,” released on Blu-ray by Kino Lorber. The first is a standard “Rio Bravo” knock off taking place during the Vietnam War. A recent West Point graduate arrives in Vietnam and is assigned to command and defend a jungle outpost. “Soldier Boyz” is the story of a former Marine working with inner city youths who are serving time and are recruited to join him on a mission to free an aid worker held hostage by a Vietnamese warlord. “Platoon Leader” is a standard military action drama, while “Soldier Boyz” is a rescue tale which takes place several decades after the end of the Vietnam War. While both movies are set primarily in Vietnam and they both feature Dudikoff, that’s about as far as the similarities go.

Stephen Johnson’s High Ground earned a special mention from The Young Cinema Award jury at this evening’s Asia Pacific Screen Awards, held on the Gold Coast.
Set in 1930s Arnhem Land, High Ground follows young Aboriginal man Gutjuk (Jacob Junior Nayinggul), who in a bid to save the last of his family teams up with ex-soldier Travis (Simon Baker) to track down the most dangerous warrior in the Territory – his uncle.
The Apsa jury praised the assured direction of Johnson, noting his film gave “voice to the issue of brutal colonisation.” Jack Thompson, Apsa president and star of the film, accepted the honour on behalf of the director.
High Ground premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and also stars Callan Mulvey, Witiyana Marika, Caren Pistorius and Ryan Corr. Madman Entertainment will release the drama, written by Chris Anastassiades and produced by David Jowsey, Johnson, Marika, Maggie Miles and Greer Simpkin,...

On August 26th, 1973, Joni Mitchell arrived at Studio Instrument Rentals in Los Angeles, where Neil Young and his band the Santa Monica Flyers were recording the boozy Tonight’s the Night. Joined by guitarists Ben Keith and Nils Lofgren, drummer Ralph Molina, and bassist Billy Talbot, Mitchell and Young tore through “Raised on Robbery,” soon to be released on her album Court and Spark.
If the Tonight’s the Night sessions were indeed a “drunken Irish wake,” as Talbot later recalled, this take on “Raised on Robbery” was the eulogy.

Aaron Norris will produce and direct “Maximum Speed,” the first in a planned franchise tapping into the global market for high-speed car action films such as the “Fast and Furious” movies.
“Maximum Speed” is aimed at taking advantage of the popularity of stock-car racing and the Western culture of bull-riding and honky-tonks. Pre-production will begin upon completion of funding, and filming is scheduled to begin in Texas Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina in the mid-summer or early fall, based on track availability.
Joe Gibbs Racing and Petty Racing have been consulting on the film, assisting with locations, tracks, cars, props, corporate sponsors, and all elements related to the filming of stock-car racing.
