How often do we see a sequel to a spinoff that is actually a lot of fun? What if you then also made it a tragic love story that involves zombies? That sounds like a Roger Corman or Troma movie but in actuality it’s Return of the Living Dead III (watch it Here) and its from channel favorite Brian Yuzna. Return of the Living Dead is a stone cold classic and is one that I sometimes prefer watching over any of the original Romero trilogy due to how different it is and how it sets up its own rules. Part 2 I have great memories of seeing on TV at my Nana’s house in Santa Ana, California on an old tube TV. It skates that Evil Dead II line of leaning much further into the comedy realm than the first, which is pretty funny in its own way and right.

Hello, dear readers! Now that June is pretty much right around the corner, we have one last round of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases to look forward to to finish out the month of May first. This week, Scream Factory is giving both Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U the 4K treatment, and Vinegar Syndrome is resurrecting Bill Hinzman’s FleshEater in 4K as well. The new aviation thriller Row 19 is making its way to both Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, and Perry Blackshear’s They Look Like People is coming home on both formats this week, too.
Other May 31st home media releases include Wicked World, Video Murders, The Conjuring Universe 7-Movie Collection and Back From Hell.
FleshEater 4K
While assisting on a dig, a construction worker accidentally destroys the final resting place of a demonic zombie, rousting him from his unholy slumber, and reigniting his taste for human flesh.

Whether you know him as Mr. Teague from Poltergeist, Frank from The Return of the Living Dead, or even Nathan Lassiter from Little House: The Last Farewell, James Karen was as versatile, prolific, and talented an actor as they come, and we're sad to share the news that he has passed away at the age of 94.
Multiple sources have shared the sad news of James' passing, including The Hollywood Reporter, who mention that his wife, Alba, confirmed the news that James passed away at his house in Los Angeles on Tuesday, October 23rd.
With over 200 credits on IMDb in an acting career that spanned eight decades, James was a frequent presence on both the big and small screens for an entire lifetime. Director: Barry Levinson; Screenwriter: Michael Wallach; Starring: Kristen Connolly, Christopher Denham, Jane McNeill; Running time: 84 mins; Certificate: 15
Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson, the veteran who helmed classics like Rain Men, Diner and Bugsy, deserves kudos for attempting to turn the increasingly moribund found footage subgenre into a more thought-provoking entity. But beyond noble intentions lies a largely ineffective and ponderous movie that harnesses many of the worst elements of both the horror genre and the found footage trope.
The Bay has a familiar eco-disaster premise that harks back to movies like Return of the Living Dead Part II. Instead of the toxic gas spillage that torments a town in that zombie splatterfest, Levinson's movie features a waterborne threat that stems from the unethical dumping of waste off the shores of a seaside town in Maryland.

Sometimes that unapproving stare is more powerful than any bite to the brain.
We've got nothing but respect for "Warm Bodies" if only because it attempts to tell a love story featuring a damn zombie. That's quite the ambitious undertaking, as zombies are hard to love with their constant lumbering about and stinking up the place and trying to eat you and all that. Not our idea of romance, at least not during waking hours. (...)
But the worst thing about a zombie is how it can't help but sometimes make you feel two inches tall with a certain unapproving look that only the undead can pull off. Just because you might need a little more humility and self-doubt in your life, here are some shots of zombies judging you from some of your favorite zombie movies.

Here comes the fourth article in my tribute to Halloween – each article featuring movies from a different horror sub-genre. For this article we’re taking a look at a rather creepy movie monster…the disembodied hand.
I’m sure the first thing that comes to mind when people hear “disembodied hand” is The Addams Family with the classic horror/comedy of Thing. Or maybe they think “Hey, what happened to my hand!!”. Anyway, I always wanted to see the tunnels by which Thing moved through the Addams mansion. Did they consist of smooth, round tubes or perhaps they were just a series of long, wooden boxes with miniature ladders that led upstairs when needed. Maybe Thing had a pneumatic system that sucked him through plastic tubes from location to location? I guess I’ll never solve that brainteaser.
Of course, the unsolvable mystery of Thing’s transportation routes won’t...

Tobe Hooper’s Invaders from Mars is one of those films that must’ve traumatized a good percentage of the kids who watched it upon release. Even before it hit video, I remember kids a few classes ahead of me talking about how scary it was. Catching it a year later on VHS, I recall sharing that sentiment.
The movie might’ve faded from memory over the years, but certain scenes remained in my head: The crazed look in Louise Fletcher’s eyes as frog legs dangle from her mouth, Timothy Bottoms’ creepy about-face to sinister father, and the Martian leader’s almost gleeful torment of child hero Hunter Carson at the climax. I had a feeling Invaders from Mars might not hold up to the memory of my seven-year-old self, but this damn DVD has been in my collection for years, and part of my reason for resurrecting Saturday...

Return of the Living Dead is one of the best zombies movie ever, and to celebrate the horror opus, there is a documentary called More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead coming out in October on DVD. I will be buying one for sure.

The zombie menace quickly descends upon a group of misfits who must fight for survival as they are picked off one at a time by a horde of the undead.

James Earl Jones in The Exorcist II There has been plenty of funny characters to grace movie screens in the horror genre. The patheticness of Roddy McDowell's character results in some good laughs or the absurdity of his character in Cutting Class which can be seen cross dressing at certain points of the movie. Speaking of cross dressing... you have the film Trick or Treats which features a killer cross dressing as a nurse to make it back to visit his son on Halloween?!? Zombies got in on the comedy as well as they were given a more comedic tone in The Return of the Living Dead Part II. Also, how can we forget about Randy from the Scream franchise? Comedy can be something unintentional or intentional as I demonstrated above. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So which character from which film gets my vote?

Disclaimer: Help. Please help me. Help. Never mind. That was a knee-jerk reaction to finally submitting this entry to you. See, I’ve been grappling with this article for months. Life interjected here and there, sure…but the real problem was realizing that I had bitten off much more than I could quickly chew. What was once a fun idea grew to Kongish proportions. Every day I would wake up and face the fact that, yes, I had more pages I had written – but where would it all end?
I refuse to share with you how many pages there are at this point, nor how many colleagues, friends and family I’ve forced to read this rambling beast out loud to me, in the hopes of finding some editorial light at the end of the funnel. As such, here is what I’ve decided to present to you for the time being.

Welcome back to Junkfood Cinema; we punish because we care. This is the weekly Fsr column that simultaneously got me thrown out of culinary school as well as film school. Every Friday I slam-bang your eye sockets with a truly terrible film only to sit back and laugh as your face melts. I will describe exactly why your visage has turned to oatmeal on the carpet while also explaining to you what it is about the bad film that makes me so happy. As if that weren’t cruel enough, I will then pair the film with a snack food with which you can assault your own metabolism while the movie assaults your neurons. Continuing on my October theme of bad horror films, and apparently bad horror sequels though I can’t guarantee that trend will continue, I bring you a little gem from 1988 called Return of the Living Dead Part II. I had to throw in a classic 80’s zombie film into the mix, and Return of the Living Dead Part II was one of those films I loved watching over and over again while I was growing up. This American zombie horror comedy came out in 1988, and it was the movie that got me into zombie films at such a young age. It was just a fun zombie movie that had the blood, gore and comedy that would spark the messed up imagination of any young kid. After this, I was sold on horror movies. Shortly after, I watched the first original movie, which as a young kid I enjoyed just as much. I then went on to watch everything I could get my hands on.

It’s hard to imagine a world where Body Double is a Ken Widerhorn (Return of the Living Dead part II) film. Originally, Brian De Palma had intended to write and produce, but opted to get behind the camera when another of his projects fell through.
And it’s a good thing, too, since making 'Hitchcockian' thrillers has always been the director’s strong point. Sisters, Obsession, Dressed to Kill and Blow Out are examples of De Palma’s ability to tap into the Hitchcock verve while carving his own niche of twisted sexuality and brutal murder. Dismissing De Palma as little more than a Hitchcock knockoff has always been an unfair dismissal in my eyes, as crafting genuine suspense isn’t a talent every director is capable of. Hell, Van Sant recreated Psycho shot-for-shot and failed more miserably than any other director ever has.
