Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, a whole raft of properties are up for grabs...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
The acquisition has officially gone through and 20th Century Fox has now been chucked on Disney’s enormous pile of assets along with LucasFilm, Marvel, and everything else. Announcements are trickling out left right and centre about possible plans for all this gold, including rumblings from comic-con about new X-Men and Fantastic Four movies and whispers recently about reimaginings of Home Alone, Night At The Museum, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
It seems like a good time, then, to take stock of the franchises that Fox currently has, what the status of those franchises are, whether a reboot has been announced and how likely it is that Disney will want one.
We’ll keep this updated will Fox/Disney news as and when it appears.

Netflix has hired “Coco” screenwriter Matthew Aldrich to oversee its live-action adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” book series as films and TV shows.
Aldrich will serve as a creative architect on all projects under the deal. He most recently co-wrote “Coco” with Adrian Molina for Disney and Pixar Animation Studios. The film won the Academy Award for best animated feature and grossed over $800 million worldwide.
Netflix and the C.S. Lewis Company announced in October that they had struck a multi-year deal for Netflix to develop stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films. All series and films produced through the deal will be Netflix productions, with Mark Gordon of Entertainment One (eOne) alongside Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber serving as executive producers for series and as producers for features.
The seven Narnia books have sold more than 100 million copies and been translated in more than 47 languages worldwide.

Are you ready to step back through the wardrobe? Netflix sure hopes you are, because they’ve just announced that they’re developing both films and TV shows based on C.S. Lewis’ classic children’s fantasy books, The Chronicles of Narnia.
From the sounds of this, it’s a pretty expansive deal, presumably with one eye on having something to compete with Amazon’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings show. The news was confirmed on the official Facebook page for Narnia, with Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix explaining the following:
“C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world. Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

Unlock your wardrobes and hug your nearest faun, because it looks like we’re on our way back to Narnia.
Netflix announced Wednesday that it “will develop classic stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films” based on C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” book series, having acquired the rights to all seven installments.
In a statement, Netflix content boss Ted Sarandos said, “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”
The Andrew Adamson adaptation “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” premiered in 2005, spawning two eventual sequels before the franchise went dormant after 2010’s “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” This news would seem to complicate last year’s word that a fourth film in that series, “The Silver Chair,” had pegged director Joe Johnston to take over the reins.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are franchise guys, and happily so. The screenwriters behind six Marvel Cinematic Universe films — including this week’s much-anticipated new release “Avengers: Infinity War” and its upcoming untitled 2019 sequel, plus all three “Captain America” films — first broke into Hollywood with their “Chronicles of Narnia” films, scripting three different franchise entries before the series sputtered out after 2010’s low-earning “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”
While Markus and McFeely are no longer on the “Narnia” beat, the beloved C.S. Lewis series is still in the Hollywood mix, and rumors of a “Silver Chair” film adaptation have persisted since October 2013, when the film rights were purchased by the Mark Gordon Company (the original films were made by Walden Media). Screenwriter David Magee was set to write the screenplay, and director Joe Johnston came on board in April 2017.

Director Joe Johnston (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) is currently developing his final film, which is an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair. The movie will completely reboot the Narnia film franchise because the first films that were released never really quite caught on with audiences.
This new film will feature an entirely new cast and according to The Hashtag Show, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown was offered the lead role in the film!
The SIlver Chair follows the characters Jill Pole and Eustace Scrubb as they embark on an adventure through Narnia to find a missing prince. If Millie Bobby Brown ends up joining the film, she will play the character, Jill.

TriStar Pictures is swinging for the fences when it comes to its fabled Chronicles of Narnia reboot.
Six years after Voyage of the Dawn Treader limped miserably into theaters, the studio is said to be mounting a new take on C.S. Lewis’ fantasy epic, beginning with an adaptation of The Silver Chair. It’s a reboot that has languished in pre-production for almost a year, but That Hashtag Show brings word of an exciting new development: Millie Bobby Brown has reportedly been offered the chance to spearhead TriStar’s revival.
The Stranger Things actress is arguably one of the biggest child actors on the planet, and is already beginning to make in-roads into Hollywood thanks to her involvement in Godzilla: King of the Monsters – look for that one to debut in March of 2019.
As for this potential casting coup, That Hashtag Show warns that this offer was allegedly made in April,...

Director Joe Johnston recently attended Comic Con Paris to talk about his upcoming film, The Silver Chair, which is an adaptation of C.S. Lewis' fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia series.
It was there that the filmmaker announced that this will be his final film that he will retire when it's complete. For the most part, I'm a big fan of the films that Johnston has made in his career and it's kind of sad that he won't make any more movies after he makes The Silver Chair.
Some of Johnston's most well-known films include Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, Jurassic Park III, The Wolfman, and Captain America: The First Avenger. In my opinion, the best film he made in his career, though, was a little movie called October Sky, which stars a young Jake Gyllenhaal. That's actually one of my favorite movies of all time.

When the Chronicles of Narnia first started hitting theaters in the mid-2000s, it was seen as the more kid-friendly Lord of the Rings. Obviously, the books were huge hits in their own right, but the approach Disney seemed to be taking the film had a huge emphasis on the battle scenes, giving it a real high fantasy aesthetic that was popular at the time. However, over the course of two films, enthusiasm petered out. Disney dropped Narnia, and soon after, Fox picked it up, producing the third film in the franchise, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
The film didn’t do horrible, but in true Narnia fashion, it seemed to underwhelm at the box office, only taking in $415 million worldwide. Again, not a huge failure by any means, and when all said and done, it likely made some money by the time it got...

Get ready to jump back in the wardrobe and get transported to the magical world of Narnia! Lions, Witches, Princes, Silver chairs, and now, a new director.
The Chronicles of Narnia oddly enough is a franchise of films that I have really enjoyed. The first film more than the sequels that followed, but still they were all entertaining in their own right. The franchise started out at Disney then as the profits began to drop they let Fox take the reins. After they saw no major profits, they too dropped franchise. Now it looks as if Sony is ready to restart the franchise with a brand new look.

The Narnia films have been rather successful for a franchise. Especially when considering all the giants it's been up against. Harry Potter, every superhero film, Twilight. But over the years Narnia has still held strong. Well, the next film in the franchise, which will be an adaptation of The Silver Chair, looks to continue that strength by hiring Joe Johnston to direct.
Joe Johnston is a fantastic director known for helming films such as Jumanji, the first Captain America film, and The Rocketeer, which is one of my personal favorites. He's very good at understanding characters and relationships, especially on a smaller more intimate level. I think he would be a great choice for this film and so does Mark Gordon, C.S. Lewis's stepson who's production company will be teaming up for this film. He said this of Johnston:

Is “Captain America: The First Avenger” the best of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies? The correct answer is, of course, “for the first half, yes.” The introduction to Chris Evans’ WW2 super-soldier is an evocative, beautifully realized, rather charming, funny-without-being-quippy joy in its first half, and certainly the most emotionally potent of the Marvel films, before getting quite boring quite fast in its action-heavy second half.
Even so, it remains one of the better McU movies, so it’s a little puzzling that Joe Johnston, the film’s director — who was also behind films including “The Rocketeer,” “Jumanji,” “Jurassic Park III” and, uh, “The Wolfman” (though he only came on to that mess a month before shooting began, so don’t blame him too much) — didn’t get more credit for it.

If The Chronicles of Narnia doesn’t exactly ring a bell, we don’t blame you. Though C.S. Lewis’ novels were hugely popular back when they were published – which was in the 1950s – the feature film adaptations haven’t exactly had the same luck. 2005-2010 saw three movies based on the fantasy world hit theatres in the form of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. While none of them were particularly bad, the quality, and box office returns, certainly dipped as the franchise went on and the plug was eventually pulled after the third outing.
That was seven years ago, but now, there seems to be some renewed interest in the series, as Sony is looking to bring Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair to the big screen, and they’ve hired Captain America: The First Avenger helmer Joe Johnston...

Stretching his “dangerous fantasy world contained inside a magical wooden box” muscles yet again, Jumanji director Joe Johnston has signed on for TriStar’s upcoming Narnia movie, The Silver Chair. Johnston—whose credits also include Jurassic Park III, The Rocketeer, and Captain America: The First Avenger—will be the first director to helm a film in this latest attempt to bring C.S. Lewis’ beloved religious allegories to the screen, picking up where Walden Media’s lavish Chronicles Of Narnia films left off.
The Silver Chair sees the unfortunately named Eustace Scrubb—last seen looking like Will Poulter in Walden’s Voyage Of The Dawn Treader—return to the fantasy kingdom with his friend Jill, in search of Narnia’s missing prince. Variety reports that Life Of Pi screenwriter David Magee will adapt Lewis’ timeless prose for the screen.

Read our look-back at UK kids' fantasy dramas 1980 - 1984 here.
By 1985 British TV's children's drama had really hit its stride, achieving "a balanced diet of programmes" as Edward Barnes, the head of the BBC children's department observed. The late 80s, arguably, saw a new golden age for spooky and magical kids drama. Excellent production values, improved significantly by well-honed special effects work using Quantel, Paintbox and Harry, and moreover some interesting casting - often of very talented newcomers - produced some of the most memorable dramas of the era.
The second half of the decade saw the BBC riding high on the back of the success of their state-of-the-art adaptation of John Masefield's Box Of Delights. Meanwhile, anthology series Dramarama was going from strength to strength on ITV.

With 2010’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the magic, awe, and wonder captured in the previous two films was sucked out of the franchise. So I hope the new team on Silver Chair fixes that. Silver Chair is a darker book, though, and there’s an insidiousness to the Queen of the Underland that arguably surpasses that of the White Witch. The bulk of Silver Chair takes place in underground tunnels, so an adaptation of this one may not have the same striking grandeur of the snow-capped Wood of Wardrobe and the great battles of Prince Caspian. In the wonderfully wonky timeline of Narnia, Silver Chair is set several decades after The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in Narnia, where Caspian is now king and an old man,...

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: In advance of a new trailer dropping tomorrow, more details about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story have been revealed. Director Gareth Edwards says that a new planet called Jedha speaks "to the themes of losing your faith and the choice between letting the Empire win, or evil win, and good prevailing." Jedha is also the home of new character Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed, above), a cargo pilot working for the Empire whose loyalties are tested. [EW.com] The Silver Chair: The fourth installment in The Chronices of Narnia series, The Silver Chair, is finally on its way, six years after the previous episode (above) opened in theaters. Tristan Pictures and producer Mark Gordon are teaming up to develop another film in The Chronicles of Narnia franchise. They are developing a big screen adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Silver Chair, which is being financed by Entertainment One. Earlier this year it was reported that this film will be used to reboot the franchise. During a previously interview, Gordon said:
“It’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from.”
So I assume none of the original cast are going to be coming back either. They’ve hired Life of Pi screenwriter David Magee to adapt the book as a feature film. I loved Life of Pi, so this gives me hope that the movie will at least have a solid script.
I never thought this film franchise reached its full potential.

The Chronicles of Narnia franchise went on a rapid decline. The first installment in the series, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, was a massive success. Disney’s adaptation of C.S. Lewis‘ novel made close to $800M worldwide — a figure the sequels didn’t come close to matching. The two sequels that followed weren’t as embraced by critics, […]

It is going on six years since Voyage of the Dawn Treader limped miserably into theaters, when underwhelming reviews and lowly box office returns effectively doused any chance that another iteration of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series – The Silver Chair, specifically – would light up the big screen anytime soon.
If you’re one of the few clinging onto hope that The Chronicles Of Narnia would get the overhaul treatment, you’re in luck; Deadline is reporting today that TriStar Pictures and The Mark Gordon Company are officially joining forces to finally bring that Silver Chair movie to life.

Get ready to set aside another lazy Sunday or two: Variety is reporting that TriStar is bringing C.S. Lewis’ Narnia back to theaters. The studio has announced that it’ll be handling financing and distribution on The Silver Chair, the movie version of Lewis’ fourth Narnia book, and the first film in The Mark Gordon Company’s previously announced creative reboot of the series.
TriStar is actually the third studio in a decade to be whisked away to Narnia, a magical land of Christian allegories, expensive effects work, and apparently disappointing box office returns. The series was most recently (if only partially) adapted to the screen via Walden Media’s lavish The Chronicles Of Narnia, with Disney distributing the first two Chronicles, The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe and Prince Caspian, in the late 2000s, before backing out to let 20th Century Fox have a crack at The ...

Narnia is coming back to the big screen. TriStar, the Mark Gordon Company and Entertainment One will finance an adaptation of C.S. Lewis' The Silver Chair from the author's Chronicles of Narnia book series. It's unclear if castmembers from earlier films are returning. The Silver Chair will take place after the events of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, when Prince Caspian has become King Caspian. The story begins with Caspian's son, the prince, going missing, leading Aslan the lion to send Eustace Scrubb — who was played by The Revenant's Will Poulter in 2010's Dawn Treader — and his boarding school classmate Jill Pope

Eleven years after Disney and Walden Media launched The Chronicles Of Narnia franchise in theatres, a new jigsaw of partners has come together to adapt the fourth book in C S Lewis’ fantasy classic.
Sony’s TriStar Pictures label has teamed up with The Mark Gordon Company, The C.S. Lewis Company and ambitious eOne on The Silver Chair, which TriStar, The Mark Gordon Company and eOne will finance.
The parties did not reveal the precise distribution strategy on Tuesday, however the elements raise the prospect of a desirable tentpole presenting itself to international buyers.
Sony and eOne will handle distribution. Screen understands TriStar will release the film in the Us, while eOne would appear likely to release the fantasy in Canada and could also handle in other markets where it distributes directly, namely the UK, Australia/New Zealand, Spain and Benelux.

We haven’t seen a Chronicles of Narnia film since The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010. After that, I pretty much gave up on the franchise and thought it was dead, which is sad because I absolutely love these stories. Turns out that the franchise is still moving forward and the producer of the film, Mark Gordon, will reboot the franchise with The Silver Chair. During an interview with Collider, Gordon revealed:
“We’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly. We’re very excited about it.”
David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland) has been working on a screenplay that will be based on the fourth book of the series. But the producer goes on to explain that this will not be a sequel. This will serve as a Narnia film franchise reboot. When asked if any of the original cast members would return, he said:

Producer Mark Gordon has confirmed that a film adaptation of C.S. Lewis' "The Silver Chair," what would be the fourth film in "The Chronicles of Narnia" series, is in active development. However he's also offered something of a perplexing quote about it.
Speaking with Collider, Gordon says he hopes that production on 'Silver Chair' will begin shortly, but adds: "No [none of the original cast will be in it], it's all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from."
This has led to the throwing about of the word 'reboot' which is not the case as such here as, despite the change of cast, it sounds like it's continuing the same narrative rather than starting over.
The book features only three key returning characters - Eustace Scrubb, Caspian and Aslan whom were played by Will Poulter, Ben Barnes and the voice of Liam Neeson respectively.

Between 2005 and 2010, The Chronicles Of Narnia slowly, but surely, entertained fans of the franchise with a theatrical adaptation of a world they'd previously only dreamed of. Those fans are going to be both thrilled and saddened with the news that The Silver Chair - the fourth book in C.S. Lewis' fantasy series, is indeed coming to the silver screen. But with such good news, how could a fan be upset? Leave it to producer Mark Gordon to straddle that line between joy and sorrow, as he recently made some remarks during a junket that Collider happened to be attending. With word from writer David Magee that the film was in the script phase last year, Gordon made some comments about whether this new chapter would include any returning elements from the previous trilogy of films. Gordon's word on the project is as follows: No, it.s all going to...

Of the seven novels penned by celebrated author C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and 2010’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader made the leap to the big screen, culminating in a worldwide box office haul north of $1.5 billion. Despite a respectable financial turn, such success didn’t prevent the live-action fantasy franchise from fading into relative obscurity, muscled out of the Ya film space by the dystopian juggernauts of The Hunger Games and Summit Entertainment’s Divergent Series.

Just a brief update on the next Chronicles Of Narnia film. We’ve heard that Will Poulter - who made his Narnia debut (and was indeed excellent) in 2010's Voyage Of The Dawn Tredder - may not return as Eustace Scrubb for the next film, The Silver Chair.
His star has risen meteorically in recent years, but apparently his age is the main reason for the recasting. According to Narniafans.com, the fact that “a lot of time has passed” between movies has led to the decision to find a new Eustace. We assume, then, that the powers that be will be on the hunt for a younger, shorter blond lad to take the role.

David Magee was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Finding Neverland and was more recently recognized for his screenplay of Life of Pi in 2012. He’s got another fantasic book adaptation in his sights in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, my second favorite of the series of seven books.
Producers for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair include Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, Vincent Sieber for The C.S. Lewis Co. and Michele Wolkoff and Sara Smith for The Mark Gordon Co. This all according to THR who quotes David Magee saying the following about his new venture.
I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia, and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it.
