Before I knew her as Archie Bunker's little girl Gloria on "All in the Family," I knew Sally Struthers as Rebecca Cunningham on "TaleSpin." A loving single mom and ambitious businesswoman whose outspoken personality belied her petite build, Rebecca -- aka "Becky," "Beckers," and the many other nicknames her responsibility-skirting, party-loving employee Baloo would use to refer to her -- was but one of many reasons to love the "Jungle Book"-inspired animated pulp period adventure series and Disney Afternoon staple. After years of trying (and failing) to keep the peace between her stubbornly conservative dad and her liberal, holier-than-thou husband Michael as Gloria in "All in the Family," Struthers was an expert in the art of sounding flustered, a talent that served her well on "TalepSpin."

As part of Variety’s 100 Greatest Shows of All Time issue, we asked writers on our staff to name their favorite cult shows — series that may lack the clout, the following, or the prestige to quite notch an entry on our list, but ones for which our writers have a special fondness. Here are seven shows that are, to us, the greatest.
Alias
So the central mythology, about the mystical inventor Milo Rambaldi, came to little as the show went on. No big deal. On “Alias,” it was all about the ride. That’s meant very literally: Each week, the show crash-landed into an episode-ending cliffhanger. As played by a luminous, game, and utterly committed Jennifer Garner, superspy double agent Sydney Bristow changed her loyalties, her allies, and her wigs. The only constant in her life was chaos, into which a writing team led by J.J. Abrams thrust her week after week.

Disney’s “Gargoyles” are coming back, TheWrap has learned.
The beloved animated series, which ran in syndication on weekday afternoons for three seasons from 1995 to 1997, is set to return, this time as a live-action series for Disney+ from James Wan’s Atomic Monster, writer Gary Dauberman (who wrote all three “Annabelle” movies) and Disney Branded Television. Dauberman is attached as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the new series.
“Gargoyles,” which centered on a band of monstrous warriors who, long ago, were encased in stone and cursed to stay that way unless they were lifted above the clouds, find themselves awoken in modern day Manhattan after a billionaire zealot placed them atop his latest towering skyscraper. (They remain stone during the day but become flesh-and-blood at night.) The Gargoyles then have to figure out what life in the contemporary world is like, while also attempting to rid New York City of some of its crime.

The Disney “Afternoon Collection” has a special place in the hearts of a lot of Americans of a certain age. However here in the UK we didn’t get that specific block of animation, instead we got the likes of Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales and Talespin as part of various children’s TV blocks – be it early morning at the weekend and the after-school slots that every kid watched between 3.30-5.30pm. Which means you think that there isn’t that same sort of affinity with these shows. But you’d be wrong. Those shows, along with Darkwing Duck, hold a special place in the hearts of a Lot of...

This Ducktales article contains massive spoilers for the finale.
Nothing can stop DuckTales. That applies not just to the characters of the series but the crew behind it. Throughout the run of the series they not only redefined DuckTales for a new generation but also crafted a beautifully woven story that developed every single one of its cast of characters. Along the way they also brought back other beloved Disney TV classics like Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin, Rescue Rangers, and even mega deep cuts like Fluppy Dogs.
They pulled all that off but the finale presented the crew of DuckTales with their biggest challenge yet. They had to wrap up the shows many plotlines while also giving its huge cast of main and supporting characters time to shine… all in just over an hour. This would be near impossible for most shows… but nothing can stop the crew of DuckTales.

Kit thought he wanted to be a pilot, like his hero Baloo. Kit was great at cloud kicking but he put that aside, looking at it as remnants of his youth. He’s older now, he should be a pilot like his hero… right? Dewey is bored with piloting so after watching five seconds of cloud kicking he decides this is going to be his new thing because it’s exciting! He’s no good at it of course but man (duck?), he wants to dew it!
Who you want to be v. who you actually are is at the heart of today’s DuckTales… but I don’t think it was all that well handled. Yes, of course Dewey is bad a cloud kicking but everyone’s dismissive of it from the jump (though Della gritting through her teeth she needs to support her son was hilarious.

“In Photoshoot 6, we’ll have everyone who wears scales on the outside,” the announcer drones over a microphone, as dozens of six-foot alligators, snakes, lizards, and other assorted reptiles scramble to pose for a group photo. Some take a final sip from their water bottles, a friend or partner patiently holding their jaws wide open for them; others extricate themselves from hugs with cats or rabbits or birds. I have seen Planet Earth enough times to know that in the animal kingdom, such creatures would be considered prey; but here,...

Developer Epic Games and pop culture collectibles company Funko teamed up for an upcoming collaboration featuring “Fortnite” toys.
The manufacturer’s upcoming line, based on the popular battle royale-styled third-person shooter, will feature over ten different product lines. Fans can purchase Pop! figures, 5 Star figures, Vynl, keychains, Pint Size Heroes, and Pop! apparel based on popular imagery and characters from “Fortnite” when the collection launches this holiday season.

Pop culture collectibles company Funko is adding a new “Pokémon” Funko Pop! vinyl figure to its massive list of toys. The company announced on Thursday that it would be debuting its first-ever “Pokémon” Pop! figure at Target in July, though a specific date would not be given. The honor has been given to the iconic yellow electric mouse Pikachu, which is number 353 in the long line of collectibles.
It’s not clear if this is the beginning of a long line of “Pokémon” toys to come, or if this is a one-off situation, but due to the colossal popularity of “Pokémon” and the fact that new Nintendo Switch games “Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!” and “Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!” are scheduled for a fall release, it would make sense to see a brand new army of toys debuting in their honor. Growing up in the 1990s I had a blast watching the Disney animated series that the studio produced. These shows included DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Gummie Bears, Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers, and, of course, Gargoyles. I’ve started showing these cartoons to my kids, and I’ve been reminded of some of the awesome characters that filled these shows. There are the main characters that we all know and love like Goliath, Darkwing Duck, and others, but I wanted to shine a light on some of my favorite supporting characters in these series that I thought were awesome. These were all characters that I enjoyed seeing when they showed up in these cartoons.

Special FX artist, Producer, Writer, Director, Film executive and most recently Comic Book Author, twenty year Industry veteran Paul J. Salamoff could be considered a sort of Renaissance man when it comes to the Hollywood machine. He’s also written the definitive guide to Movie Sets called, On The Set: The Hidden Rules Of Movie Making Etiquette. However, what I found to be the most compelling and sobering fact about Paul is that above all else the man is a true fanboy. Like the rest of us, his work stems from his passion for science fiction, horror and fantasy. It reaches back to his childhood and the countless hours spent watching classic films, reading, and just letting his imagination run wild over the limitless possibilities imbedded in the human psyche. Of all the interviews I’ve done over the years with relative strangers, his was the most easy going and comfortable.
