Jay Starrett reached his first final in Season 39 of The Challenge thanks to a well-orchestrated alliance run chiefly by him and his ride-or-die Michele Fitzgerald.
However, his appearance in that first-ever final was short-lived, as he met his fate after the first phase of the event.
The Control phase featured the seven finalists working as a team to complete a task. Unfortunately, it wasn’t completed in time, and they lost another $16,000 of their final prize money.
Host Tj Lavin also revealed the first elimination of the final, with the majority of finalists voting Corey Lay into it due to his mistake in the Control task.
Corey then called out Jay for the elimination, indicating he saw him as a threat and someone who made sneaky, shady, or snaky moves to get there.
He then defeated the former Survivor competitor in an event involving racing to dig up small bags...

In 2021, Paris Hilton spoke on Capitol Hill about the trauma she endured at a camp for troubled teenagers in Utah.
“I was strangled. Slapped across the face. Watched in the shower by male staff,” she shared.
So begins the Netflix documentary “Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare,” which offers an origin story for Hilton and countless other teenagers’ experiences within the United States’ “troubled teen” industry. As “Hell Camp” reveals, there was one man pushing the growth of supposedly rehabilitative sleep-away programs for misbehaved youth: Steve Cartisano.
An Air Force veteran, Cartisano charged parents steep prices to send their children to a 63-day program at the Challenger Foundation in Utah. Teens were kidnapped from their homes in the middle of the night and jetted off to the desert, where they were forced to hike 500 miles in exhausting conditions. Moreover, they were often victims of emotional and physical abuse from camp staff. One 16-year-old camper,...

Andy Roddick is tipping fellow American Ben Shelton to continue his electric rise on the men's tour in 2024, in what he believes will be another learning season.
Shelton turned pro in late 2022 finishing that year by winning three straight Atp Challenger titles and debuting in the world's Top 100. It was also during that time period when he chose to pause his college studies before shifting online and focusing on his tennis career.
That decision paid dividends almost instantly. Shelton, playing in his first Grand Slam tournament outside U.S. soil would reach the quarterfinal of the Australian Open. For many youngsters, this would have been a case of baptism by fire, not Shelton who was armed with one of the most devastating serves in men's tennis.
He played in his first full season on the Atp Tour in 2023. Despite registering mixed results immediately after Melbourne, Shelton's exponential rise took effect...

Saturday was a landmark day for Jack Draper, who broke new ground on the Atp Tour by reaching his first Atp final at the Sofia Open.
Draper fell short in his title quest, losing to the in-form and experienced 35-year-old Adrian Mannarino in three highly engrossing sets. But he's not going to leave Bulgaria's capital emptyhanded.
Aside from a runner-up trophy, the 21-year-old from Sutton will climb 21 spots and inside the Top 70 (up to 61 in the live rankings). This is a significant improvement by Draper who fell outside the world's Top 100 in August after missing a combined four and half months of the season due to injuries.
Additionally, Draper became the youngest British man to reach an Atp final since 2009 where his childhood hero Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokovic to win the Miami Masters. Murray was 21 at the time, the same age as Draper who reached the final in Sofia this weekend.

After spending over a year on the sidelines, Reilly Opelka will make his comeback to the tennis courts at next week's Atp Challenger 75 event in Charlottesville.
Opelka has been granted a wild card in a 32-player singles field featuring many American players, including Michael Mmoh (top seed), Zachary Svajda, and former collegiate star Alex Michelsen.
Main draw action at the Charlottesville Challenger commences on Monday, October 30, and is primarily contested on indoor hard courts.
The 26-year-old Opelka has been drawn to face fellow American and former Top 50 player Tennys Sandgren, who is the eighth seed at the event in the first round on Monday. The Atp's tallest player has a fine record on indoor hard courts.
Two of his four Atp titles have been won under the roof, and his very first Atp Challenger title, incidentally, came in Charlottesville in 2016. So he could draw fond memories from this tournament.

Ben Shelton had a dramatic rise over the course of this year, and it's still something he has to process properly.
Ben Shelton made his Top 100 debut last year with some late Atp Challenger trophies in the United States. He continued his rise with a superb run at the Australian Open and progressed slowly in the following months.
Overall, he didn't really hit a really high level until the US Open, where he went wild with a run to the semi-final. That allowed him to break into the Top 20, which he bettered to the Top 15 with a recent trophy at the Japan Open .
It was his maiden trophy, which basically allows him to even fight for a Top 10 debut, which would be crazy. All of that is happening too quickly for him to really process it, as he explained in an interview with the Atp in Vienna.

Kei Nishikori 's tennis comeback certainly isn't going as he imagined, as the 33-year-old was forced to withdraw from yet another Atp event.
When the Japanese player returned to the tennis courts in June, things looked perfect. He entered an Atp Challenger tournament in Palmas Del Mar, and Nishikori ended up winning the title after beating all five opponents that stood between him and the trophy.
His tennis return was actually record-breaking, as he became the first-ever man to win an Atp Challenger title unranked . After that, Nishikori played two more Challenger tournaments, before returning to the main Atp circuit after a very long 21 months.
His comeback went really well when he won his first match since October 2021 at the 2023 Atlanta Open in July . However, what followed after that has been far from ideal. The former world no. 4 started to feel pain in his knee in his quarterfinal match against...

The success of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" this summer was a sign that the box office has more or less fully recovered from the decimation of the Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, Hollywood's studios have decided to celebrate this victory by strapping themselves to a rocket like Wile E. Coyote and firing themselves directly into another crisis. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers' back-to-back failure to negotiate new deals with the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA means that Hollywood has been almost completely shut down by a dual actors and writers strike, something it hasn't faced for more than 60 years.
Since the actors strike means movie stars can't promote their work or even walk the red carpet at premieres, studios are already feeling the pain at the box office. Rather than return to the negotiating table with SAG-AFTRA, however, the favored solution has been to delay upcoming movies from their...

Following the voyage of the Titan sub that claimed five lives on June 18 when it imploded en route to Titanic’s wreckage in the North Atlantic, the sub’s developer and operator OceanGate Expeditions faced criticism from James Cameron, who contended in numerous interviews that the tragedy was preventable. He told ABC News on Thursday: “Many people in the community were concerned about this sub and even wrote letters to the company saying that what they were doing was too experimental and what they were doing needed to be certified.”
John Bruno — a VFX Oscar winner for The Abyss who did four dives to Titanic with Cameron during the filming of the Oscar-winning 1997 film and 2003 documentary Ghosts of the Abyss — echoed Camerons’s concerns about the Titan sub’s design. He tells The Hollywood Reporter that when he read about the sub, “the worst thing for me was that the whole front end opened up.

Andy Murray added another Atp Challenger trophy to his tally this year ensuring a return to the Top 40 for the first time in 5 years.
Andy Murray won the 2023 Nottingham Open on Sunday by beating Arthur Cazaux in the final improving to 10-0 on the grass right now. For the first time in years, Murray has won 10 matches in a row, and he's just one or two more wins away from securing a seeded spot in the Wimbledon draw.
That was the big goal leading up to this year's event and he's very close to getting it done. He will need to defeat Alex de Minaur at the Queen's Club to have a chance at a spot in the top 32 spots of the Wimbledon draw. Two wins at the Cinch Championships would ensure him a spot in the top 32 which would be a major achievement for Murray.

Surbiton (England), June 11 (Ians) Andy Murray advanced to the Surbiton Challenger final after he ousted defending champion Jordan Thompson 7-6(5), 6-3 in the last four, here.
The Scot found rhythm from the start, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. The Australian fought back to force a tie-break but Murray’s consistency and all-court coverage helped him move past Thompson in straight sets on Saturday.
Despite serving for the match at 5-2, Murray was broken before closing out the semi-final in the following game to set a clash against Austrian Jurij Rodionov.
Second seed Murray is aiming for his second Challenger title of the year after he triumphed at last month’s Atp Challenger Tour 175 event in Aix-en-Provence, France, where he defeated Tommy Paul in the final.

In our continuing coverage for the Disney+ series, The Right Stuff, we had a chance to chat with Michael Trotter, who is embodying astronaut Gus Grissom in the new series.
Michael's most recognized television role was in the Wgn America series, Underground, so he's got a tie to historical productions.
Get to know him a little better in our interview, and be sure to watch The Right Stuff on Disney+ on Fridays!
So tell me, how did you first get involved with The Right Stuff?
Well, it came to me through the pretty traditional system of just getting an appointment for it. Funny enough, though, I actually wasn't in town. There's an old adage when it comes to acting, when things are slow, book a trip out of town and you'll probably get an audition.

The Challenger space shuttle explosion in 1986 was one of America’s most visceral tragedies. In real time, millions of Americans, including school children across the country, witnessed the shuttle disintegrate from a solid rocket booster failure, claiming the lives of all seven astronauts on board. The mission was of particular national interest because a high school teacher named Christa McAulife was selected to become the first private citizen in space, leading to increased media attention and fanfare.

It’s been quite the month for Netflix so far, with plenty of new films and shows for subscribers to delve into during a time when socialization is widely off limits. Thankfully, there’s a bit of something for fans of every genre, too, such as the addition of Hilary Swank’s sci-fi drama Away, spooky mind-bender I’m Thinking of Ending Things and the family-friendly How to Train Your Dragon 2. But of course, that’s just scratching the surface of September’s offerings.
Luckily for subscribers, today marks another large content drop to add even more things to binge, and though not all of it is going to appeal to a broad audience, there’s at least one major new movie that’s guaranteed to make a splash.

Now they are the directors of Netflix’s four-part “Challenger: The Final Flight” docuseries, and they hope the lessons learned from that tragic mission will resonate with American audiences amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“This was our Kennedy moment; this was our 9/11 moment,” Junge told TheWrap.
If there’s one thing to be gleaned from the fatal NASA space shuttle mission, its that listening to scientific data can sometimes be the difference between life and death.
“It does feel like the right message now, just in terms of the value of science and the value of teachers, which is really important right now and will hopefully resonate,” Junge said. “And also, no matter how you feel about Reagan,...

If America’s modern space age began in the 1960s, it hit a wall in 1986 with the Challenger disaster, when the U.S. space shuttle by that name exploded during takeoff, killing all seven crew members aboard. The element that took this from sorrowful and tragic error to generation-defining news event was the presence onboard of Christa McAuliffe, a civilian schoolteacher specifically chosen for the mission in order to catalyze student interest in America’s quest for the stars. Those students drawn to watching the launch by the promise of a relatable figure to take them along were confronted with live-television tragedy when O-ring seals failed in unusually cold weather; space exploration may have continued, but some innocence or optimism was lost.
The case made by “Challenger: The Final Flight,” a new four-episode documentary series on Netflix produced by J.J. Abrams and Glen Zipper, is that this didn’t need to happen.
