Good mix of mystery and intrigue
rps-211 December 2003
I'm a sucker for stories about spies and frontiers and guys in white cloaks and black cloaks. This is an intriguing little film, well acted by some relatively obscure people. It's a dandy murder mystery (well, it isn't really murder, or two murders. But then if I explain that, I'll give it away.) Theres also fascinating intrigue set against the Berlin Wall. The story is set after the wall comes down. But there are flashbacks to the days of the two Germanies. The film captures the gritty atmosphere of the East and even explores the social problems in the wealthy west after it is invaded by hundreds of thousands of refugees from the impoverished east. It's a fine film on all five counts: acting, suspense, mystery, intrigue and atmosphere.

This was an excellent mystery. I have been reading and watching mysteries for over 30yrs, and it is rare that I can not figure out who did it, or what plot twist may occur, but this movie had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end, and I was unable to come up with the eventual plot twist until the movie was almost over...this movie was excellent, and I could watch it again and again just to catch all the different nuances...most excellent
