While Luca Guadagnino's sexy tennis movie is queering up the box office, Alice Rohrwacher's La Chimera is finally out On Digital. In other words, if you're soft for Ratatouille's #1 fan Josh O'Connor, it must feel like everything's coming up roses. And isn't that how it should be? Between the two projects, the up-and-coming British actor shows off his range and then some. In Challengers, he's all dirtbag sleaze, playful in that way naughty kids can be when they know they've gotten away with something. Yet, between provocations, there's vulnerability peeking through, hunger of the stomach and the heart. Contrast with La Chimera, performed primarily in Italian and suffused with quiet heartbreak from start to finish. From burning ardor to morose romanticism, Josh O'Connor excels…...

It’s quite a struggle to figure out what’s going on in La Chimera. That’s not a criticism, by the way. In fact, I thought it mirrored exactly how Arthur, the de facto lead of the film, and his colleagues keep digging hard to find treasure, which is quite amazing. Not much happens in Alice Rohrwacher’s latest film, at least story-wise. It’s mostly Arthur wandering around with his dowsing stick, trying to locate buried treasure, and people around him having conversations mainly about how their lives would change if they managed to get instantly wealthy. But underneath the surface of that, La Chimera is a mood piece that is filled with a lot of melancholy and maybe a hint of magic. If you’re familiar with Rohrwacher’s style of filmmaking, which often has an aloofness, lacks a certain kind of structure, and doesn’t quite follow a particular narrative style,...

It’s sometimes hard to imagine that actors you see on screen are just like you and me, but it’s really true, and nobody is a better example of normalcy in extraordinary circumstances than Tyler Hynes.
If you’re already a fan, this isn’t news to you. You may be a part of his social media circle, which includes frequent visits from the talented man, as he not only connects with those who hold him dear but also enjoys it.
Many talented professionals in the entertainment field will tell you that bringing joy to others is why they do the work, but Tyler takes it a step further by being so incredibly connected.
When he says, “I just want to live a good life with good people, see if I can do some good and make some folks possibly a little happy,” he couldn’t be more sincere.

Fresh out of jail, Arthur (Josh O’Connor) is a man who seems reluctant to head back to his past, although haunted by his lost love Beniamina. Meeting back up with his rag-tag bunch of friends, Arthur succumbs to the means of living he loves the most — stealing Etruscan artifacts from local graves. Sinking deeper and deeper into his work, Arthur’s quest to find a door to the afterlife becomes overwhelming.
2020s cinema has, so far, been a time of reminiscence. As a collective, we’ve been harking for the 1980s in particular, longing for its synth-based tunes, garish colours, and a future that felt as though anything could happen next. Typically, this manifests in something that looks of its time but clearly is made in the modern day. Instead of a synthetic homage,...

Just like last year, critics are quibbling with the film awarded the Palme d’Or. Not that there’s active dislike for Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” but the Palme d’Or winner topped a different category in the survey IndieWire sent to critics from all over the world. This time, 60 reviewers and journalists participated, with five continents represented.
Nearly half of all 60 voted for Jonathan Glazer’s loose Martin Amis adaptation, Holocaust drama “The Zone of Interest”: 29 of the critics voted for it for Best Film. That’s a divergence with the Competition jury, which voted “Zone of Interest” the Grand Prix while “Anatomy of a Fall” took the Palme. The second title for Best Film chosen by the critics only received six votes, showing the intensity of enthusiasm for the Glazer film. That second title was Aki Kaurismaki’s “Fallen Leaves,” with “Anatomy of a Fall...

Of the half dozen TV programs that each received at least five acting Emmy notices in 2022, “Squid Game” is the only one with no past contenders in its nominated cast. The quintet of Korean performers recognized for their work in the Netflix series’ first season range in age from 28 to 77 and have screen acting resumes that date as far back as 1994. One of the show’s three supporting nominees, Park Hae-soo, has earned this mention 15 years into his career, which has consisted of equal parts stage, film, and TV work.
Park has decided to have Emmy voters consider his performance in the inaugural season finale of “Squid Game,” entitled “One Lucky Day.” At the beginning of the installment, his character, Cho Sang-woo, stands as one of two finalists in the central contest, along with Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). Exclusive: Hae-soo Park, who played Squid Game finalist Sang-Woo, has signed with UTA.
The talent agency has signed the actor, who is currently fronting Netflix’s Korean remake of Money Heist, in all areas.
It comes after a major courtship by the Hollywood agencies to the cast and creatives behind the smash hit Korean dystopian drama series.
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk and stars Lee Jung-jae and Jung HoYeon all signed with CAA, so it’s a coup for UTA to nab Hae-soo Park.
Hae-soo Park recently scored an Emmy nomination for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
He has previously starred in Netflix’s Korean dark baseball comedy Prison Playbook, Chimera, Persona, Legend of the Blue Sea, Six Flying Dragons, and God of War.
On the feature side, he was also starred in Time to Hunt, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, marking the first South Korean feature...

Exclusive: Damian Lewis has launched his own production company, Rookery Productions, and plans to develop and direct projects across feature film, television and theater.
This comes after the Billions and Homeland star signed up to A+E Networks’ factual series Spy Wars, which he will co-produce, marking his nascent indie’s first project.
In an interview with Deadline, Lewis said that he wants to produce and direct across genres and has already lined up to develop a feature film, another television series and a play.
“It’s an opportunity for me to create some exciting drama and comedy,” he said. “It gives me an opportunity to be creating things from inception.”
He admitted that it was early days and these projects needed time to “percolate”. But he added, “It’s a way to work independently with other producers, authors and talent to make compelling and provocative content.”

Young Justice's midseason finale is also its first bad episode of the season.
This Young Justice: Outsiders review contains spoilers.
Young Justice Outsiders Episode 13
If "Nightmare Monkeys" is a sign of what the Young Justice team can do freed from their constraints of a network and a regular tv schedule, "True Heroes" is what happens when they forget that they're unchained. "True Heroes" is an hour to 90 minutes of show jammed into a 22 minute television episode, a failure of storytelling and imagination that represents the first real turd of an otherwise spectacular return to the world.
Young Justice has never had a problem jamming a ton of stuff into a 20ish minute show. But when they do try and pack it in, they're usually more elegant about it, relying on subtlety and character to drive the central plot forward. That doesn't happen in the midseason finale: it's discarded for rote sequencing and infodumps,...

Vincenzo Natali'S horror flick Splice, starring Adrien Brody as a scientist who creates a new lifeform from the DNA of several species, has been fairly well-received in the USA and is getting a UK cinema release on July 23.
