The voice and characterization of Taz's father, Hugh Tazmanian Devil, is based on Bing Crosby. Hugh's brother, Drew Tazmanian Devil, is based on Bob Hope, Crosby's co-star in the "Road to..." comedy films. Both Hugh and Drew are voiced by Maurice LaMarche.
The aristocratic airs of Francis X. Bushlad and his aboriginal tribe, most particularly his father the chief, are inspired by Jim Backus's portrayal of millionaire Thurston P. Howell III on Gilligan's Island (1964).
