The Jesters Of Surreal Again
screenman23 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Once again, Reeves & Mortimer are given a chance to demonstrate their anarchic nonsense, this time in the guise of a 'gameshow'.

It's more of the same, with ludicrous questions, equally ludicrous answers, and short, sketch-like asides in between. Regular team captain is Ulrika Johnnson, who's feelings are seldom spared, being largely the butt of most jokes. Captains of the other team have come and gone. Mark Lammar featured for a while and later Will Self. Matt Lucas played drums and kept scores as Georgie Dawes, dressed as a baby. That was the only part of the show that I found rather over-contrived.

An enjoyable blast during the 1990's; the good news is: it's back! And despite almost a decade's absence, it still stands-up very well against any other third millennium comedy. Which may be saying something about the latter.

More brilliant entertainment from Vic n' Bob.
Hel3n4 May 1999
Quiz show hosted by the outrageously funny Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer that obeys no conventional rules! Two teams undergo bizarre tasks in order to win a fantastic cash prize...of about 5 quid! This is quality entertainment-expect the unexpected. Guaranteed laughs are provided with bizarre rounds such as "The Dove from Above" and scores kept by George Dawes "He's a baby!". What this doesn't make sense? Then you've got to watch it to understand. (And you'll be lucky if ya do!)

We really wanna see those fingers!

Great surreal game show

I give it 10 stars based on when I watched it roughly between 1993 and 1996. It was surreal, silly, very different yet brilliant fun. I loved this.

I can't describe how unfunny this show is.
rlefebour1 September 2011
I recently wrote a review for scrubs stating it is the worst show I have ever seen, I stand corrected.

This has to be THE most unfunny show I have ever seen, even if the writing of the show was good (Its not, its obscene) the actors skill in delivering the unfunny jokes are so poor that even the most well written script would be ruined by there lack of talent.

I cannot fathom how this is a critically claimed show when the basis of it is failed celebrities answering questions that don't make sense and giving answers that they believe to be funny, while the audience looks on straight faced.

I think the main problem of the show is the utterly stupid content, it should not be classed as a comedy if even the audience rarely laugh at the poorly constructed gags.

I'm honestly telling you as a human being, do something else with your time, but don't even give this show a go, it is beyond description on how much of a searingly unfunny experience this was.

My hate for this show is so passionate that I about ready to plead to the BBC to cancel the show.

How it won anything or how anyone on this earth could find this un- witty, unfunny, poorly constructed piece of absolute trash funny, I cannot understand, I literally cannot grasp how someone could experience anything but pain watching this show.

I died laughing watching this, my ghost is writing this.

Now in it's tenth year, shooting stars is still one of the funniest shows on tv. Gone is the dove from above, replaced by a scary looking fox who asks in a gruff voice for some gin. Will Self, as a team captain, is introduced with pantomine style "evil" music. The "clips" round includes hilarious clips such as "the Sunderland film society presents the Incredible Hulk" and "nigella bites". Questions include "Madonna's music is getting worse isn't it?" and "name a dog". Everything that happens on it is funny, and I just hope that they're showing it in America. Not that they'd understand it...

fantastic

Shooting Stars i think is a fantastic and a funny programme quiz show to watch. Vic, Bob and George make me laugh especially George when he is acting like a baby when he has his baby clothes costume on. He's a baby, He's a baby. And when he bangs his drums. I think he is fantastic. I give the show 10 out of 10.

VERY FUNNY

Shooting Stars has got to be the most funniest game show I've seen. Reeves and Mortimer are so funny! They host the game show. I nearly wet myself when I watch them both.

Matt Lucas (George Dawes) is well, a baby, actually he is dressed like a baby and he keeps track of the teams scores. George Dawes can also be very funny, especially the episode on Shooting Stars when he dressed up as Elton John, I laughed and laughed for hours!

This is the best game show ever, watch it and laugh.

9/10.

Surreal but not funny
tmcneil-140-23566422 August 2011
The popularity of Shooting Stars has always been a mystery to me. The so-called humor is definitely surreal but to say that it lacks the intelligence of Monty Python, Spike Milligan, or even Morecambe and Wise is to put it mildly. It is Surreal but not funny, Isuppose the same could be said for Salvador Dali so I'll have to qualify it further, it is also completely lacking in any evidence of talent or intelligent endeavor. Most grownups would soon tire of the antics of a children's' clown, if you're not one of these people then you may be one of the apparently many folks who enjoy watching Shooting Stars from beginning to end.

Something Of A Guilty Pleasure
Theo Robertson7 April 2003
I find SHOOTING STARS to be very very silly , and yet when it`s broadcast I somehow find myself settling down to watch it with a smile on my face even though I`m ashamed to admit it .

SHOOTING STARS is a game show with Vic and Bob the quiz masters and Mark Lamarr ( Later Will Self ) and Ulrika Johnson as team captains . But it`s not like a normal quiz show , this one is absolutely surreal with humour you`ll either love or hate . I fall into both camps: I hate it in public but love it in private .

A recent episode featured one of the most bitchy comments I`ve ever heard . On helping out guest Debbie Mcgee slide down a rope ( Don`t ask ) Vic shouted up to Bob " You can touch her breasts " . Quick as a flash Ulrika shouted " You`d have to find them first ! "

I`ll say no more
