Lake Consequence is very typical of Zalman King. It's sexy and erotic with fantastic shoots and a soft, sexy, romantic soft-sex scenes that lead your imagination exactly where it's supposed to be. Billy Zane, while not David Duchovny, is beautiful. Joan Severence is beautiful...what more could you need. It's got a decent story-line and it's well acted, not stiff and choppy, not 'acted'. If you've seen Wild Orchid, or 9 1/2 Weeks, you have to see this. The cinematography is wonderful, the scenery perfect for the story and the music blends in as if it were meant to be there. Nothing canned, nothing corny, just steamy and wonderful.

Lake Consequence is one of those movies that I'm embarrassed by myself for liking. The plot, (repressed, bored housewife has an affair with a sultry tree-trimming guy and some hot chick,) is contrived, but. . .well, there's no other way to put this. The sex scenes make this pic work. *Seriously* steamy. Billy Zane is intensely doable, if you know what I mean. For maximum viewing (and panting) pleasure, be sure to see the unrated version.

Interesting setup. Although the unrated version comes to us for only one reason... it does make a valid attempt to become more than a sexual experience. It does have flaws, but it has a plot, that many movies of the sort don't have. (ex. Fatal Pursuit)

Erotic thriller starring Joan Severance anyone? What would you imagine the film would be like? Cheesy? Jazz music with smooth sax playing over the numerous pointless sex scenes? Well that's what I assumed but that is by no means what means what the film is like. It has a strange atmosphere to it and the build up to Severances infidelity is intriguing.
The film is well shot and there's a sense of actual artistry and this never resorts to the cheesy clichés we have come to know from Joan and her soft core peers Shannon Tweed and Shannon Whirry. What I also really liked was the score from George Clinton. It helps that he has a bit of class unlike many musicians working in low budget movies. Clinton has done many scores for big screen movies and has a good pedigree for a movie this size, and his score is interesting and atmospheric.
Overall this was surprisingly watchable. It has some intrigue without being overly entertaining. It is certainly the best thing I have seen from the gorgeous Severance. ***

The info button described this as " An erotic drama " so I was expecting a low concept plot with soft core sex with muzak in the background . Guess what ? That`s exactly how the film plays out . However there`s no drama and very little in the way of erotic scenes .
The female protagonist is called Irene who`s married with a young son and lusts after Billy who`s a tree surgeon and in a plot twist finds herself in the company of Billy and his bisexual girlfriend . I wasn`t too taken with the morality of this movie and if I were to be honest I can`t help thinking that the script to LAKE CONSEQUENCE started out as being a hard core porn screenplay . It`s full of these illogical plot twists and non exsistant character motivations you`d find in a John Holmes or Traci Lords skin flick. Since it was made for TV it goes without saying there`s nothing hard core about the sex scenes , and LAKE CONSEQUENCE is only notable in that it stars Billy Zane who would find fame in TITANIC

Irene (Joan Severance) is a stay-at-home housewife with a young son. Billy (Billy Zane) is part of the city crew trimming the trees in front of her house. Irene becomes fascinated with the hunky worker. While her husband and son are out of town, she sneaks into Billy's trailer. She is stuck as Billy's girlfriend Grace drives away to remote Lake Consequence. The repressed Irene begins an affair with Billy and Grace.

Although you have to admit the premise is original, this is just like all of Zalman's other pics, he does us a great service to us birdwatching community. You gotta admit to see it's lead women, naked, is another one of the movie's pleasures, where nakedness runs high in Zalman's pics. Lonely bored housewife (Severance) is left alone for the weekend, as hubby and kid have gone off somewhere. She's developed a sexual fixation on one of her landscapers (Billy Zane). And as fate would have it, she's gets locked in her caravan, ending up at this tranquil deserted lake, and have a guess with who. It's a menois de trois, and sexual therapy for Severance, whose sexual hunger has been pent up for two long. It's up to Zane and his beautiful girlfriend to bring her much wanted sexual desires and fantasies to life. That's the business of the story, but like all of all of King's work, the movie chooses the weird way of telling the story which makes it more brief, than if going on the realistic path, if getting to the core of Severance's problems. But it does have a beautifully told story, and is beautifully shot. Aside from that, it's a borderline porn, not much substance kind of film, but films like these do have their perks.
A terrific and harmless movie for teenage boys wanting to know how to have sex

I saw this movie on VHS shortly after its release as a confused and easily aroused young teenage boy, and I was immediately turned on by the mindless sense of free love and intimacy that this film has throughout its entirety. Sadly very few films like Lake Consequence get made any more, due to the overkill of censorship "experts" and the influence of both family value and religious fundamentalist groups in government policies. I look back on it from time to time as the very first time that I realized how erotic and arousing it is for a man (and indeed all straight men) to watch two women kissing and making love in such an innocent way. The scene in the Chinese Bath House is by far one of the most erotic 2 women/1 man threesomes that I have ever scene in a Hollywood film. When Billy leaves May and Joan together, they kiss passionately and then briefly you see their breasts/nipples pressed together as they are beautifully locked in a lesbian embrace. What would have made this movie perfect would have been another sex scene where Billy was not involved at all, as its been proved that more than 40% of all male sexual fantasies don't involve any men at all :-). I recommend this film to just about any man who is in need of some visual comfort whether he be in a relationship with a woman or not.

Zalman King is almost the byword (bywords?) for erotic films and he certainly tries with this one. We have Billy Zane giving us his brooding, rebellious Billy, Joan Severance as Irene, the everyday wife and mother with a traumatic secret, and May Karasun as the sexually adventurous Grace, who find themselves together on the shores of Lake Consequence. Billy and Grace begin to unlock Irene's secret by some steamy scenes which of course are almost obligatory in a Zalman King film. May Karasun naked on the pontoon is a sight not easily forgotten and Joan Severance oozes sexuality with her sultry looks.
Technically, the film suffers, though, from a constant stream of quick flashbacks accompanied by banging drums. These quick flashes may have been intended to heighten the mystery of Irene's past but to me they were simply annoying. To make matters worse, Irene's dialogue at the crucial time was so soft, it was almost impossible to hear. Irene's actions, running through the woods when Billy refused to take her with him were laughable. How to sum-up? A good film for fans of Zalman King but it could have been put together better.

Best reason to see this movie: May Karasun

The best reason to see this movie isn't for the two lead actors Billy Zane and Joan Severence. It's the supporting actress May Karasun. Joan plays a bored housewife and Billy plays a lawncare man to whom Joan is attracted. She sneaks into his trailer and falls asleep. Not knowing she is inside, Billy hooks up his trailer and drives off to Lake Consequence. When Joan wakes up, she goes outside to examine her new surroundings. Billy is gone, so she goes down to the lake shore where May Karasun bursts from the water nude, startling Joan. May is a beautiful creature and is unashamed to be seen skinny-dipping in a lake. This scene goes on for quite awhile and is, in my opinion, the best part of the movie. Eventually Billy returns, the three become friends, and Joan is led on an adventure of sexual freedom. Like most of Zalman King's movies, there isn't any hardcore sex, though this movie does involve a menage'-a-trois scene in a hot tub as part of Joan's sexual experimentation. Overall, one of the better "Red Shoe Diaries" style movies and one worth keeping around.

.....Well i'm a fan of Zalman King and he didn't disappoint me with 'Lake Consequence', I loved it, the gorgeous brooding Billy Zane and the beautiful Joan Severence, great erotic scenes to brilliant music. I think Zalman King is a genius, he knows how to tune into peoples fantasies, men and women, he always casts beautiful people (Billy Wirth and Sherilyn Fenn to name but a few) and there's so much nervous tension throughout the film it's great! I have 2 soundtracks from his movies and they're fantastic too, I can't believe the rating for this is so low...if you like 'Red Shoe Diaries', 'Two Moon Junction' and of course '9 1/2weeks' then i'm sure you'll love this!

This movie has the most incredible sex scene I've ever seen. It takes place in a steamy hot tub with two girls and...ohmygosh...Billy Zane! The passion, the steam, and the look in his eyes makes this sex scene so immaculate, I wanted to rewind it a thousand times. Unfortunately, it was on TV. If you don't watch the movie for the screenplay (which is great also), watch it for this sex scene. I've never been so turned on by a movie before. I think I've found a new love for Billy Zane.

Joan Severence is hot as a wife and mother who takes a chance and "broadens her horizons" by following a tree trimmer. Passion ensues with Billy Zane and another woman. The threesome will leave you breathless. It is also available in an "unrated" format. It adds slightly more steamy scenes, without being too too graphic (which is a shame). At the end of the film you will want (need) to have a partner nearby. Imagine loving bread, wlking by a bakery with fresh bread cooling in the window, and having fifty minutes to wait until opening.
An excuse to perpetrate a series of soft porn images using cardboard characters delivering an idiotic script.

A 30-something housewife gets a crush on this manual worker who is living in a caravan close to her house. She feels sexually unsettled despite possessing a pleasant home, a charming little son and a loving husband - who are, as it happens, just off on a fishing trip for a few days. She is so besotted by her initial contact with the worker that she enters his caravan in his absence and sentimentally strokes some of his books. Then, a shock - suddenly the vehicle is driven off with her inside.
Quite a good start, you might think. But it soon deteriorates into the soft porn, witless directionless movie matched by a few thousand others. The caravan stops beside a picturesque lake and a superbly-built naked blonde bather enters the scene. She soon persuades the non-swimming housewife to not only enter the water, but submit to being ferried on her back by said blonde to a large swimming-raft. As you may imagine this is the start of some lesbian goings-on.
The manual worker of course returns complete with rippling muscles and completes the sexual triangle which somehow finds itself later immersed in a stormy jacuzzi in the middle of Chinese New Year junketings. Our mild housewife, after being caressed under water by Mr. Muscles, gets a bit put out when she sees him paying similar attention to the blonde, takes one of the burning candles which bestrew all porny films at erotic moments and, via a handy diaphanous curtain, sulkily sets the whole place on fire.
As if that were not proof enough of brain-damage in the direction department, the script (?) takes another, even less likely twist when Mr. Muscles not only drives the obviously bonkers, still-naked woman to her home (hubby and little boy having fortunately not yet returned from the fishing), accompanies her indoors, lectures her on her wifely responsibilities, finds her a dress and clothes her, disappearing before hubby and son return to enjoy a rapturous reunion.
A sadly flawed irresponsible film despite the best efforts and good looks of the women. A jarring note was the frequent loud crashes in my speakers accompanied by split-second images apparently inserted by the director to keep the audience awake.
This nonsense barely deserves the four rating it has been given.

If eroticism is what you're looking for, this movie is for you. Not the tv version, the one I saw years ago on a pay channel. Without a doubt, watch anything Zalman King (Red Shoe Diaries) is connected to, and he will fulfill your fantasies.
