After getting an anonymous call from someone asking them to meet to hear who handled the barrels, Lenni and Rob go to find it's Momo. He plans to secretly check his boss' files to see. The team find the garden fence is broken and some people are desperate enough for its old free-food produce to enter despite their new warning signs. Momo can't get to the records, but Ghostwriter finds three companies before the words the team gives him narrows it down to Miller's Hauling Company. Lenni finds her dad is starting to date Sally, and resists. Tina and Alex go to Miller's Hauling Company posing as school reporters. It turns out John Miller is about to get the Citizen of the Year award, but they hear him angrily talking on the phone with someone about shredding something, and when they briefly "interview" him he seems nervous to be asked about disposing of chemicals too dangerous for a landfill. Ghostwriter finds part of a memo in the garbage and they conclude he's going to shred evidence of him dumping the perc, and possibly steal French Garment Cleaner's invoices to link him to it.

With French Garment Cleaners' boss' invoice's stolen, Miller doesn't have to worry about them being read as evidence before he can shred them. Momo says his boss won't talk to kids even for an investigation, so presses them to bring an adult, but they still need proof to convince anyone to back them. Alex and Tina return to the hauling company to record the documents being shredded. Ghostwriter confirms they're the invoices, but in trying to get the camera close enough to view the documents, they're discovered. They escape and even share a kiss, but the papers are shredded without a clear shot of words. The two take them since they ended up in the garbage truck they were hiding in, along with the tape they managed to get of him remarking he did shred something secretly important. They approach Fanny Mae Banner, who says she'll do their story - but she needs a witness or something strong enough to condemn Miller definitely. They decide to have Momo's boss talk to her. They're also determined to make sure Miller wastes no time cleaning out the perc.

Lana (Patricia Berry) receives a telegram with another threatening message but, once again, she didn't seem too much concerned about it. Tina (Tram-Anh Tran) explains to the team why Stone Harrison (Sam Stoneburner) is angry with Lana. Jamal (Sheldon Turnipseed) says he'll follow the clue on the store of wigs, Gaby (Mayteana Morales) raises Lana's daughter as a suspect and Rob (Todd Alexander) reinforces the suspicion with some substantial evidences. Lana arrives at the ceremony hall and goes straight to her dressing room, ignoring everyone, including her daughter, Janine Peretti (Gretchen Krich), who leaves the room visibly upset. Tina asks Ghostwriter to read something near Lana's dressing room and he brings them a draft of her speech that doesn't sound like Lana. Stone Harrison passes by them at same time, so the kids believe whoever is in Lana's dressing room is someone pretending to be her. While Tina goes with Alex (David López) and Lt. McQuade (Mike Hodge) to Lana's apartment, Rob and Gaby read all the threatening messages again, trying to get something they might've missed. Rob finds out who's behind all of this and rushes to Lana's dressing room, but he's hit by the villain in the head. Lt. McQuade gets back to the ceremony hall just in time to arrest the culprit during the false speech and Lana to make her own, including a few words of recognition to the person behind this all. The next day Lana and her daughter strengthen their relationship and Alex finally gets courage to tell Tina about his feelings - even though masked through a movie script.

The Ghostwriter team begins to fall apart when arguments and misunderstandings stemming from a car accident between Mr. Fernandez and Mr. Frazier start to form between the team members. Lenni sides with her father, and Alex and Gaby side with their father. Tina is also involved because she had witnessed the accident and had unintentionally provided testimony against Mr. Fernandez to the press. While Jamal tries to ease increasing tensions, Rob withdraws, unable to handle the fighting. The rift starts to make Ghostwriter fade away, and Calvin Ferguson makes things worse by trying to investigate who 'GW' is (he caught Rob talking to "GW" in school) and makes attempts to further sabotage the team. Rob eventually helps Jamal get the team back together in time to solve the mystery of an art thief, as the culprit Daniel O'Connor may also be indirectly responsible for the car accident.

The Thunderheads are furious that Rob found their hangout and start beating him up. Suddenly Victor runs in and yells at them to leave Rob alone. Miguel asks Victor to prove his loyalty to the Thunderheads while Rob begs him to come back to school. Victor reluctantly turns down Miguel's offer. He reminds Miguel that he saved him once in a gang fight so Miguel owes him a favor. He tells the Thunderheads to let Rob go but Victor's no longer accepted into their gang ever again. As they leave the hangout, Victor fumes at Rob for his stupidity but he's glad to see his friend was concerned about him. Back at Victor's house, Rob realizes that the notebook is still missing so perhaps it's still with the real culprit. He asks for a copy of the rap Victor wrote and asks Ghostwriter to track it down. The notebook is in Tony Boyd's bag. Tony is forced to open it up for a teacher and they find the notebook along with a can of spray paint. He admits to framing Victor for taking away his position the track team. Tony is directed to go call his parents and it is likely he will be suspended. Victor thanks Rob for helping him out. Later on, Rob wants to write an article about being caught by the Thunderheads but he's too scared to let it out. Ghostwriter suggests using specific words and scenes to imagine what happened. Rob begins with "Hands" and writes out a personal message about being attacked. He feels much better when he's done. The Star Jam turns out to be a huge success. Lenni sings her introduction speech about coming together to end violence, Tina and Gaby have a song and dance, and Victor performs his rap for his brother. Grandma Jenkins gets on the stage to congratulate the kids on a great job and everyone joins her in singing Lenni's song again.
