We might be stuck indoors this Halloween weekend, but thankfully, the various major streaming services are on hand to keep us occupied with a monumental mountain of new content heading our way over the next few days. As it’s both the end of the month and the beginning of November, the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video are adding a mix of seasonal movies and TV shows today and tomorrow, and a whole load of freshly licensed titles on Sunday.
First of all, Netflix is dropping five new originals this Friday, October 30th, including a couple of horrors, like The Day of the Lord and His House. Disney Plus, meanwhile, debuts The Mandalorian‘s season 2 premiere today, along with a new episode of The Right Stuff and Nicolas Cage movie The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Elsewhere, on the 31st, HBO Max adds last year’s Black Christmas...

This year marks the 40th anniversary for Star Wars and the highly-anticipated first trailer for the next installment, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, was released today during a three-day celebration down in Orlando, Fla. After watching the trailer close to 15 times, here are the key takeaways: 1. General Leia Is Back in Action—If the new Star Wars trailer showed us anything, it's that the future is female—or at least General Leia is attempting for it to be! Throughout the epic trailer, the iconic character is overheard saying she sees, "Light. Darkness. A balance." What exactly does this mean? Looks like we'll have to wait until Dec. 15 when the film is released to find out. ...

Jon Bernthal is looking like the classic Frank Castle in these latest pics from the set of The Punisher! Looks like Frank is a little battered as well, which is no surprise considering his character. I like that the costume pays respects to the original costume while still looking a little modernized. I'm not seeing a trenchcoat, and if I'm being honest, I would be fine if we don't see it. What's your take on The Punisher's look? Let us know below and thank our friends at io9 for the heads up!

Fourteen years ago, Jenna Elfman starred opposite “a lot of green balls and green people.” The project was “Looney Tunes Back in Action,” a feature film where Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck were digitally inserted into a live-action setting, and while Elfman now finds herself in familiar terrain as the lead of ABC’s new sitcom “Imaginary Mary,” everything has changed.
“‘Looney Tunes Back in Action’ gave me a jumping off point and an experiential reference for that [world], but in this we had nothing,” Elfman said during a recent press event, comparing her green points of reference in the film to a largely barren TV set. “And we did it on a TV schedule. With ‘Looney Tunes,’ we had all the time in the world. This, I was never even in my trailer.”

Set to hit theaters in just over a month, “Ghost In The Shell” hasn’t quite escaped concerns and criticism that the Hollywood remake of the cult favorite anime is whitewashing the source material. But lead actress Scarlett Johansson recently addressed the issue in Marie Claire, essentially suggesting that her role as the cyborg Major, doesn’t find her playing another ethnicity.
“I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person,” she said.

Back in action once again, Matt Damon stars in the forthcoming Universal Pictures project “Jason Bourne,” and there’s a brand new promotional trailer and poster out today.
Slated to hit theaters on July 29th, the marvelous movie also stars Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, all under the direction of Paul Greengrass.
Of the storyline between “The Bourne Ultimatum” and “Jason Bourne,” Damon previously told press, “You’ll find the character — like The Bourne Ultimatum, the third act actually in the movie dovetails with the third act of The Bourne Supremacy So technically when the Bourne character disappears, it’s still 2004. So when this next one comes out in ’16, it will have been 12 years — in movie years — that the character as been off the grid. So what’s happened in those intervening years gives you a story.”...

Although this Wednesday’s episode of Arrow gave viewers something they had never seen before with the appearance of Matt Ryan’s John Constantine, next week’s all-new hour, “Lost Souls,” will feel very much like old times, as Sara is back in action with Team Arrow, and Ray Palmer makes his return. It will be interesting to see not only how these characters from the past will interact with new foes, such as a Damien Darhk, but also how they will be reuniting with their friends and family, particularly Sara and Laurel uniting as “the Canaries,” and Ray seeing Felicity again. Additionally, these photos seem to indicate that Curtis will be joining Team Arrow out in the field as they try to rescue Ray, which could lead him to finally showing just how terrific (you get it?) he really is. And although she’s not in any of the pictures below,...

The CW has released an all-new promo for the upcoming season of the superhero series, and as Felicity says, “It feels like old times.” Oh yes it does, in the very best of ways. So how exactly does it feel like old times? Well, as you can see from this latest Arrow Season 4 promo, Oliver and Diggle are back in action, working with Laurel and Thea (the latter of whom seems to really be enjoying her now role as a superhero) to protect Star City. It all looks very much like the fun, more action-packed second season of Arrow that we got, except with a big bad that may be even more dangerous than Slade Wilson. We’re still over a month away from the return of Arrow to The CW (Season 4 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m.), but the seemingly never-ending summer hiatus hasn’t stopped us from thinking, discussing, and speculating about what’s coming next in the superhero series. Season 3 of the show proved to be a divisive one, as many fans claimed that Arrow was no longer as great as it used to be, and while we have yet to see any footage of Arrow Season 4, everything we’ve learned about the new season so far has us incredibly excited about the direction the series is going in and the many possibilities for the show’s characters. Harrison Ford, who was injured Thursday when his plane crashed into a golf course in Venice, Calif., is also a real-life hero who twice in one year rescued lost or stranded hikers.
News: Harrison Ford Hospitalized After Crashing Plane
Ford, 72, lived part time at an 800-acre ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and flew his own helicopter as part of local search and rescue missions.
In 2001, a then-13-year-old Utah Boy Scout named Cody Clawson, spent a rainy night lost and alone outside in Yellowstone National Park, CBSNews.com reported at the time. He was eventually spotted by Ford and another searcher.
"Boy, you sure must have earned a merit badge for this one," Ford said, according to CBSNews.
"I already earned this badge last summer," Clawson replied.
"Cody said the kids asked if he got an autograph and he said, 'No, but I got a hug and a handshake, and that's better than an autograph,'" said his...

Can a new developer breathe some much needed life into Call Of Duty? Strap on your Exo suit and find out in Advanced Warfare...
In a year when so many titles have failed to impress, and few have made much use of the current gen boost in power, it was easy to dismiss yet another Call Of Duty. After all, Ghosts was hardly the best example of the series, and that was handled by the usually impressive Infinity Ward (now lacking key staff, of course). The build up to the game was the usual hype and mirrors, with Activision showcasing an impressively rendered Kevin Spacey and some futuristic action, but many just couldn't let go of that Call Of Duty cynicism we've all come to pull over us like a warm blanket every year. Even Call Of Duty die-hards found Ghosts to be a let down, and the game was the lowest-selling so far.

In all of Frank Tashlin’s work, there is nothing quite so boldly staged as the delirious sequence in 1961′s The Ladies Man, in which Jerry Lewis, the film’s director and Tashlin’s nominal pupil, deconstructs a panic attack in twenty five seconds. Framed inside an enormous set that resembles the interior of a gargantuan and painstakingly detailed dollhouse, Lewis’ character, a terrified schlemiel by the name of Herbert H. Heebert, is in the midst of a mad dash up the set’s elaborate staircase when suddenly he’s literally beside himself with fright, splitting into two, then three, then four similarly fearstruck replicants, zig-zagging about the hallways until they all disappear one after another into the safety of their bedroom, the door slamming in quick succesion with four emphatic bangs. No, there was nothing close to this deft and dizzy blend of Psychology 101 and slapstick in Tashlin’s portfolio,...

Who could begrudge Joe Dante the honor of an anthology volume dedicated to his work? Here's a director who's never quite gotten his due despite a plethora of appreciative, dedicated fans. Serious American critics, including Jonathan Rosenbaum and Dave Kehr, have stumped for him for decades, but it seems sadly unlikely that such a volume would come out in his home country. In fact, even the Austrian Film Museum press' previous subjects (e.g., Apichatpong, Karmakar, Denis, Assayas) merely emphasize how this looks, superficially at least, like a departure. As an object, of course, the book is beautiful like the other entries in the series.
The co-editors Nil Baskar and Gabe Klinger have brought together a nicely diverse set of accounts of Dante's work. Some are pieces of historicist criticism; others are textual readings of certain tropes or tensions in the movies themselves (e.g. Dušan Rebolj on “Dante's Agents,...

When "The Americans" comes back for Season 2, it doesn't mess around.
Only one hour into the new season, and "Comrades" has already served up mass murder (twice), family drama, sex (sorry Paige!), betrayals, a mail-delivery robot (!!!!!) and Meryl Streep. It's going to be one heck of a season.
Back in action
Some time has passed since the Season 1 finale -- long enough for Philip to run an entire operation with some Afghans (and then kill them) and for Elizabeth to fully recover from that gunshot wound. She comes home just in time for Henry's birthday, and everyone is happy and smiling. That is, they're happy and smiling until Philip and Elizabeth leave for "date night."
Naturally, the only dating happening is with other people. The Jennings and a new couple -- also in Directorate S -- set up a Lockheed employee with sex and misdirection. Then they go talk about the kids.

One of the things that makes The Mill Valley Film Festival such an outstanding destination for movie lovers and movie makers is that in addition to screenings of Oscar frontrunners (like 12 Years a Slave, August: Osage County and Dallas Buyers Clip) and international hits (like Blue Is The Warmest Color), audiences are allowed to bask in exciting new voices who premiere their passion projects there. This year one of those films is Chris Lowell's directorial debut, Beside Still Waters, which premieres October 12! It will also screen at The Austin Film Festival.
The deeply personal film focuses on Daniel (played by Ryan Eggold) who, after the tragic accidental death of his parents, invites seven childhood friends to the site of their summer memories, a lakeside cabin about to be sold.
